Short-Term Teams and Guests MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES Our goal is to insure that each visiting team has a meaningful and successful visit to Cambodia. This can happen as we work together preparing your schedule. Our goal is to match our needs and opportunities with your skills, gifts and desires. Below you will find many of the different ministries serving in or with New Life Fellowship of Churches Cambodia. Please take a look and let us know if any of them are of particular interest to you. Office Skills Training School The OSTC exists as an evangelistic outreach to the community as well as to train Cambodians with marketable job skills in the following areas: English, Computer, and Office Skills. Bible classes are offered in English each week. There are opportunities to teach a class or participate as conversation partners. We would normally teach the class, look for opportunities to build relationships, invite the students to study the Bible with us privately and/or join the Youth Outreach every Saturday night. Special seminars/workshops can possibly be offered on subjects related to these skills. New Life (Christian) School At present the school has classes K-8. We use a public school curriculum, primarily taught in Khmer, but also offer English, Bible and Computer classes. It s possible to meet with the administrative staff and/or teachers for supplementary training, teach English or computer. You may also visit during recess to play with the children. There may also be handyman projects needed to be done around the facilities. Children s Ministry We have a vast children s ministry, with four services in two locations, adding another one in 2012 and several outreaches to the dumps and slums. We touch several hundred children each week. You are more than welcome to attend any of the services and observe or assist in any way you can. If we plan ahead it s possible for you to present a drama, game, simple song, or provide small gifts, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, noodles, small gifts, etc. There are also opportunities to do the same in provincial villages and at our Englishspeaking Children s Classes during Sunday morning and Wednesday evening meetings. Bridge of Light This is a ministry to the mothers of the children in the slums. You may join the meeting, teach, preach, pray and/or provide small gifts of items of necessity. Abraham and Sarah Ministry This ministry reaches out to the elderly in our church usually 40-50 years and older. It s a time to bring teaching, preaching, prayer and fellowship. The Healing Home People come in by themselves or are brought in by friends or relatives. They come to stay in our house to receive prayer, encouragement and basic health needs until they recover. We allow only 3 guests at a time to visit in order to maintain respect and a calm atmosphere. You are welcome to visit and pray for those who are ill. Marriage Ministry Meetings are offered throughout the year to build up the marital relationships. Your team may visit during a regularly-scheduled meeting or we can arrange a special meeting. We would love to have you teach, pray, create relationship-building activities or go on outings whatever your creative juices can come up with. Men s and Women s Dormitories At present we have more than 100 young people staying at six men s and women s dorms. These are mostly young people who have come to the capitol city to seek their fortune. Some are Christians but many are not. We provide them with a place stay and some food in exchange for basic chores and participation in some church activities. Many of the young people work part-time or full-time and study at universities. They are often free in the evening for teams to come, enjoy a meal with them, fellowship, teach and minister to them. Women s Ministry From time-to-time there are activities for women in the Phnom Penh church and provincial churches. We would love to have anointed women who come and minister to our women. This could be done in seminar/workshop format, small groups or one-one-one ministry or other creative ways. There is also the possibility of hosting women s retreats and camps. Men s Ministry The same is true for the men s ministry as it is for the women s ministry. Page 2 of 5
Primary Healthcare Ministry Healthcare is a serious issue in Cambodia. We provide primary healthcare and nutritional information primarily to Cambodians in provincial villages. Our healthcare teams make trips to the provincial villages to provide training. You would be welcome to accompany them and assist in any medical, healthcare or nutritional training in which you are skilled. You are also welcome to join and visit from house-to-house, teach, distribute small healthcare gifts or minister in other ways. Let your creative juices flow! Community Development Projects As we have finances to do so, or as grants are approved or partnerships forged we do a variety of development projects, including: micro-enterprise, water wells, agriculture projects, animal-raising and more. Your team can travel to our villages to help, teach/train or investigate possible projects. Children at Risk Many of the children in Cambodia or not orphans in the sense of not having a mother or father, but many of them are abandoned by their father, or given to relatives to raise. Most, if not all of them, are subsistence-level living. Our Children at Risk Program sponsors a child at USD$30 per month. This monthly support insures the children have school clothes, school tuition is paid, and they have proper nutrition and at the end of three years have income adequate to support the family. C@R works together with Community Development Projects and Primary Healthcare. You are welcome to travel with the team and observe, assist in any training or provide children s outreach or minister to care-givers. As with the other ministries, let your creative juices roll! Leadership Training Various opportunities exist for leadership training for men, women, staff, cell leaders, businessmen/women and even unbelievers. Give us your ideas and we ll try to make it happen! Youth Outreach We have Youth Outreach (YO) at two locations at present and will add one more in 2012. If prior arrangement is made we would love to have your team not only visit the meetings, but contribute by way of drama, testimony, special song, teaching, preaching. Let us know what your team has to offer and we ll contact the Youth Department. Worship Ministry Our worship teams are current, talented, vibrant and passionate; however, we are always looking to improve. If you have a musician, or singer who would like to offer their talents and skills let us know. Teaching music, vocal, theory, etc. can be an outreach not only to our church in Phnom Penh and provincial villages, but an outreach to unbelievers, too. Page 3 of 5
Media and Creative Arts Media (TV, video, printed literature) and Creative Arts (drama, acting) have been a core part of our church for many years. We have used this as a means to clearly communicate basic information to the church as well as outreach to unbelievers. If anyone on your team has skills in these areas we can have you meet with our staff and volunteers for personal tutoring or special workshops or just to see how we do it. We re always open to developing our knowledge and skills. Non-Cambodian Staff An often overlooked part of missions are the missionaries themselves. We have non- Cambodian staff from many different nations. We all can use encouragement, prayer, personal visits and sometimes counseling. Retreats or specialized training is also in order as well as just one-one-one or group times over meals. Cell Groups At present we have more than 140 cell groups in our Phnom Penh church. These small groups meet weekly. We would love to have your team join our groups to share testimonies, teach, prayer, and/or fellowship. Let us know if this is an interest. Growing Trees Interns Each year we have 12-18 young people committed to a ten-month internship. They serve three days in various ministries in the church and have two days of training. If your team has interest in giving input into these young men and women, including one-on-one fellowship and ministry over a meal, possibly teaching sessions, prayer over them or possibly sponsoring a retreat or going on a ministry outreach with them let us know. 9:10 Classes These are the foundational classes we have for pre-believers, new believers and growing Christians which are offered on Sunday mornings. We welcome you to join the classes and assist in prayer, encouragement, testimony or perhaps follow-up after the classes with the students to encourage them in their faith. Provincial Churches The present count is more than sixty provincial churches and outreach points in various stages of development. There are many opportunities to minister to these churches, leaders and unbelievers. Concerts, testimonies, leadership training seminars, evangelistic outreaches, Children-at-Risk, Community Development, Healthcare, visiting from house-to-house, youth/children s outreach, music training, dramas, prayer walks, marriage/family ministry, teaching English, concerts, dramas, prayer for the sick, parties, sports events and more. Some of these churches are near (1-1/1/2 hours) and some would require and overnight stay. Many of them have no church building but meet in homes, or what some would call shacks. Page 4 of 5
