NOTES 30

FAQS 1. IS IT UL LISTED? HDPE made to ASTM and UL standards extruded over UL cables are UL listed according to NEC article 354 NUCC. UL markings are available on Schedule 40 duct only and are available upon request. 2. HOW IS IT TERMINATED? SIMpull Cable-in-Conduit can be stubbed up directly into pole bases, pull boxes, and transformer pads. If necessary, compression or glue-on fittings are available. 3. WHAT CABLES ARE AVAILABLE PRE-INSTALLED? We can extrude our duct over nearly all of the cables in our catalog. 4. HOW MANY CABLES CAN I GET INSIDE? Cable fill is limited to NEC fill tables. 5. WHAT SIZES DOES IT COME IN? SIMpull Cable-in-Conduit is currently available in 3/4" thru 3". 6. HOW FLEXIBLE IS IT? Conduit bend radius is 10 times the OD of the duct, which allows bends to be made that are similar to industry sweep elbows. Conduit will easily follow contours of a trench and be directed around obstacles. 7. CAN YOU USE IT IN COLD WEATHER? While HDPE conduit stiffens in extreme cold, it remains flexible for installation to temperatures of -25 C. 8. CAN YOU USE IT INDOORS? No! Outdoor uses only. 9. HOW MUCH CAN I GET ON A REEL? It depends on the size of the duct. For a general reference, please see the chart on page 27 of this catalog. 10. DOES IT HAVE A MEMORY? While CIC will lay nicely in a trench, the cut ends will exhibit a slight bend. This bend is used as an advantage during installation to create sweeps. The material will relax over time to its original straight position. 11. CAN I GET EXACT LENGTHS? Exact cut lengths are available from stocked master reels. Most made to order custom configurations will have a tolerance of 5-10%. 28 12. HOW CAN IT BE INSTALLED? CIC can be installed in open trench, directionally bored, or plowed into the ground. 13. WHAT COLORS ARE AVAILABLE? Southwire conduit is available in black, red, orange, and grey. Striping is also available. 14. ARE THE REELS RETURNABLE? Wood reels and steel-spoked reels are recyclable or available for reel recovery through our partnership with Sonoco. Recovery is subject to end-user location, condition, and number of reels available for return. Please call your sales rep for details. 15. CAN YOU PULL THE CONDUCTORS OUT AFTER THEY ARE INSTALLED? Conductors are pre-lubed prior to extrusion and installed loosely inside the conduit so that they are easily removed, if needed. 16. CAN YOU INSTALL MV CABLES IN CIC? Yes, medium voltage cables can be installed. 17. WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO EXPOSE THE CONDUCTORS? Care needs to used when removing conduit so as not to damage the conductors. Southwire recommends the use of a pipe cutter to score the conduit deep enough that the duct can be snapped off before completely cutting through the plastic. 18. SHOULD HDPE DUCT BE PAID OFF THE TOP OR THE BOTTOM OF THE REEL? It will depend on the method of installation. For open trenches, pay off from the bottom of the reel. For plowed installations, pay off from the top of the reel. For directional boring, either method can be used. When pulling into a vault, pay off from the top of the reel. 19. WHY DO I NEED TO CUT BOTH ENDS OF THE CABLE FREE? The cable needs to be able to move freely inside the conduit. If one side is tied, it may cause the conduit to snake resulting in damage to the cable and/or conduit. 20. WHY IS THERE MORE CONDUIT THAN CABLE? Due to the installation process there is approximately 1.5% more conduit than cable. This is taken into account during production and tagged reel lengths are based on the cable installed. This excess duct is carried at the pay-off end of the reel and should be taken into account when starting a run. (A 600' run should have approximately a 9' length of duct at the beginning end).

DOUBLE E-LOC & DOUBLE E-LOC TRANSITION COUPLINGS APPLICATIONS DOUBLE E-LOC COUPLINGS The Double E-Loc is a locking compression coupling used to join smooth, ribbed, corrugated or Figure 8 High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) conduit. The locking, pressure-tight design makes the Double E-Loc an ideal coupling for pneumatic cable placing applications when air and watertight integrity of the system is imperative. Unmatched pressure ratings, pull-out resistance, no metal parts, and no special tools make the Double E-Loc the preferred coupling. Lock rings specially designed to grip rigid PVC and steel pipe are also available. Double E-Loc Transition Couplings have the same great features as the Double E-Loc Couplings, but provide the ability to connect conduit of different sizes. Lock rings designed to grip PVC and steel allow for a single coupling to transition to both a dissimilar size and dissimilar material. DOUBLE E-LOC TRANSITION COUPLINGS PRODUCT DETAILS Can withstand 200 psi internal pressure Provide pull-out resistance in excess of ASTM standards for HDPE Sizes from 3/4" to 2" available No additional tools required for installation Locking Compression Coupling No Special Tools Required Sizes 3/4" to 2" 18
