Vital Voice & Data s Monitoring & Management Services Vital manages the routers, phones and ethernet switches (if provided). We proactively monitor the customer router and connectivity and notify our customers of any outages. Our primary voice location for this application is located at 60 Hudson St. in NYC. Our Disaster Recovery (DR) site is located at 165 Halsey St. Newark, NJ. The DR was engineered to operate at full capacity should our primary site go down. Our voice platform has been built with multiple layers of redundancy. Network Redundancy includes but is not limited to the following: Dual power supplies with independent power feeds. Redundant disk drive arrays. All power is UPS-fed and generator backed. All network interconnects are redundant. SONET Ring architecture Every system is part of a redundancy and/or load balance cluster. There are no single points of failure. All data is replicated in real-time between our primary and DR site. Data is archived nightly to our corporate headquarters. Multiple carrier connectivity for termination diversity.

VVD Auto Failover Solutions Redundant WAN Service For Business Vital offers several WAN redundancy options for customers who require VoICE, MPLS, or DIA services. While our network is engineered to exceed all SLA targets, the characteristic failure point for any customer network is the local access circuit. Our redundant WAN solution allows customers to eliminate this single point of failure from their network without assuming the financial and technological burden of a complex, multicarrier solution. By leveraging Vital s extensive portfolio of carrierpartners our customers are able to install redundant circuits to any location utilizing diverse underlying carriers and access mediums. By combining this physical redundancy and diversity with our networkbased intelligent routing solutions, a reliable, fully automated failover solution can be implemented during network-impacting events. Our standard offering includes three options that provide varying levels of service to meet a diverse range of customer requirements. These application-specific solutions are engineered to provide an unparalleled level of network reliability for any situation. We work with our customers to choose the correct solution, oversee its implementation and testing, and manage the service throughout its lifetime. This eliminates the costly and time-consuming need for an outside consultant to provide and manage this solution.
Redundancy/Auto Failover Three Options to Consider On-Net To On-Net Redundancy This option utilizes two VVD On-Net circuits for the redundant WAN links. These circuits are ideally provisioned from diverse network providers and to diverse VVD Points of Presence (POPs). By coordinating the CPE and the Provider Edge routers, automatic failover is configured utilizing a dynamic routing protocol. This protocol handles the re-routing of customer traffic over the backup link upon primary link failure, and back to the primary link upon service restoration. This process is fully automated and can be completed in less than one second. Since both circuits are On-Net to our network, we are able to maintain the same Quality of Service (QoS) across both links. This option is ideal for VVD VoICE, MPLS and DIA customers, as well as customers who rely on external access to their site/network from the Internet, as the customer s public LAN IP addresses will also route over the failover circuit. On-Net To VPN Redundancy This option provides additional access circuit flexibility to our customers. It utilizes one VVD On-Net circuit and one Off-Net IPSec VPN tunnel access for the redundant links. The Off-Net access can be almost any type of circuit (Ethernet/T1/DS3/DSL/Cable/3G/4G). An IPSec VPN tunnel is overlaid on the off-net DIA to establish a secure WAN connection back to the VVD IP/ MPLS network. Between your CPE and the VVD network routers exists automatic failover. Configured by utilizing dynamic routing protocol, this protocol handles the re-routing of customer traffic over the backup link upon primary link failover. The process is fully automated and not only provides VoICE, DIA and MPLS services, but is also ideal for customers who rely on external access to their network from the Internet as the customer s public LAN IP addresses will also route over the failover circuit (e.g. if the customer hosts their own website it will still be accessible to the outside world via the failover connection). On-Net To 3rd Party DIA Redundancy The last option utilizes one VVD On-Net circuit and one Off-Net Internet access circuit. Again, the Off-Net access can be almost any type of access circuit (Ethernet/T1/DS3/DSL/Cable/3G/4G). As with On-Net to VPN Redundancy, this option provides a diverse physical path. Where this solution differs from the previous one is in both the method of failover and the services that are maintained over the redundant path. Failover here is achieved using the Cisco SLA feature on the CPE. The CPE actively monitors the state of the primary circuit, and upon detection of a failure will begin routing traffic over the Off- Net DIA. It then performs Network Address Translation off your VVD- assigned public IP addresses to the 3rd party provider s public IP address. This process is fully automated and provides for Internet access as well as VVD VoICE services to the fail over. This solution is ideally suited for the SMB customer that requires their VVD VoICE and Internet access to be highly- available, but does not require external access to their site.
Disaster Recovery VS. Business Continuity Disaster Recovery services are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of the modern enterprise. Today s businesses expect a more robust set of Business Continuity solutions. Modern technology has created a world in which companies are facing increasing pressure from their customer bases to continue business as usual with no excuses. What Is Business Continuity? Here is a partial list of related services to consider: Auto Trunk Failover/DID Failover Hosted Phone Services Multiple Carrier Solutions Web Based Rerouting for DIDs, Toll Free Numbers, and Trunks Hosted Voice Mail/Hosted Auto Attendant TDM to IP Failover with DID Retention Remote Call Queuing and Call Stacking Rapid Codec Substitution for Increased Call Volume VVD provides all of the above services and much more. We have specialized for years in strengthening our ability to keep our customers operational when the unexpected happens.
Business Continuity Trumps Disaster Recovery What are the differences between traditional Disaster Recovery services and Vital Business Continuity Solutions? The best way to understand the differences is to look at an actual telecom example. Scenario A client s voice traffic is generally handled at a site by multiple PRIs. To provide some diversity the PRIs are provisioned from two different carriers. Most inbound traffic goes directly to the intended recipient as each employee has their own DID. The PRIs carrying the DIDs fail due to a problem at that carrier s POP. Disaster Recovery Solution Based on a predetermined plan, traffic is rerouted by the carrier to the other set of PRIs provided by the secondary carrier. Before rerouting calls, the carrier strips DID signaling and sends all the calls to a single telephone number residing on the second carrier s PRIs. These calls are subject to call forwarding usage charges. Calls are screened by the receptionist and are transferred to the appropriate end user. Some calls are lost due to excessive waiting periods and some are lost from busy signals, as the remaining circuits can t handle the load. Outbound calling is also negatively affected due to the increased traffic load. The customer gets through the emergency for the most part, albeit with significant business disruptions. Vital Voice & Data s Business Continuity Solutions Calls are rerouted seamlessly with DID signaling to the second set of PRIs and go to the originally intended recipients. There are no call forwarding usage charges. Over capacity calls are routed in some cases to the recipient s mobile phone, and in other cases to voice mail. At noon the client s admin, who is on vacation, jumps on the Internet at home and using our web based trunking portal, begins routing certain traffic to their west coast office. This routing change takes only seconds because the admin had the forethought to preprogram for just such an event. The client gets through the day unscathed (business as usual) thanks to our Business Continuity planning. VVD Differentiators Our NNIs to our carrier partners allow us to connect virtually anywhere to anywhere and to provide fully integrated MPLS, IP bandwidth, and voice services. Our core network servers and equipment are housed in carrier grade data centers and are fully geographically redundant. Our web based routing tool allows our customers to preplan or reroute on the fly. With unlimited plans, Time of Day and Time of Week routing, there is no simpler or more comprehensive routing tool available today that routes trunks, DIDs, and Toll Free numbers as quickly or easily as the VVD Trunk Routing Portal
