ATLAS Trainborne ETCS solution Proven Technology & Partnership For interoperability
TECHNOLOGY AND INTEGRATION EXPERTISE YOU CAN RELY ON The ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) standard aims to establish rail network interoperability and ease cross-border operation. This initiative, launched in the early 1990s by the European Community, has now expanded far beyond Europe s frontiers. ERTMS is composed of the ETCS (European Train Control System), which is the control-command system, combined with GSM-R, the radio system for voice and data communication. Levels 1 and 2 have been implemented by suppliers while the specification of Level 3 is being finalized. The ERTMS standard allows train operators to install "trainborne" ETCS equipment in their fleets and infrastructure managers to install "trackside" ETCS equipment on railway lines. This brochure presents Alstom's ERTMScompliant ATLAS trainborne ETCS solution. Alstom brings train operators and owners: > A service-proven package of trainborne equipment based on ERTMS/ETCS specifications > Installation, integration and commissioning services for effective ERTMS/ETCS functionality in locomotives and train fleets The most up-to-date technology ATLAS is the result of Alstom's expertise and years of investment in the development of ERTMS technology and standards. Alstom was an ERTMS pioneer and key contributor to the creation of the original ERTMS specification, working with UNISIG, UNIFE, ERA, UIC*, and the European Community as well as with train operators and infrastructure managers. It was a natural progression for us to become an early adopter and leading supplier of ETCS trainborne and trackside solutions and to continue this key role with our permanent R&D innovation. * UNISIG: Union Industry of Signaling UNIFE: Union of European Railway Industries ERA: European Rail Agency UIC: International Union of Railways www.unife.com Alstom's European Vital Computer (EVC) 2 Alstom Transport Alstom Transport 3

Alstom's EVC: > allows optimum life cycle cost. > employs a fault-tolerant platform based on a 2-out-of-3 principle, allowing it to operate with one channel in default and thus ensuring the system s high availability. > is designed for easy configuration and adaptations for national specifications without compromising ERTMS compatibility. It is customized simply by data configuration without any software development for fast and easy upgrade of the installed base. Alstom offers the Specific Transmission Module (STM), as defined in ERTMS standards, which allows ERTMS trains to run on national systems equipped lines. In addition, Alstom has developed multi-standard solutions to support migration towards any national system through gateways, minimizing space occupancy and reducing test time on tracks and delays to commercial service: > The USSB (Universal Safe Switching Box) is an additional box which contains interface to national systems. > The INAT (Interface NATional) is a software program, integrated in Alstom's EVC, which contains interface to national systems. Both are fully compliant with STM specifications. The EVC can also be integrated with national Automatic Train Protection (ATP) as a dualstandard solution in a single rack. Advanced Key Management Center Maintenance Capabilities The status of various ATLAS trainborne equipment is continuously monitored and analyzed to determine the most likely root cause of a failure, its effect, and the location of the affected components. A maintenance manager tool is available in all equipment to provide: a maintenance graphic interface on the driver display, a diagnosis of each component, a quick check of the equipment s health and a preventive maintenance facility. Thanks to this tool, there is no need for a specially trained maintenance technician or specialized tools. * System Requirements Specifications Only Alstom offers an advanced Key Management Center for remote and automatic generation, exchange and update of the authentification keys, eliminating manual trainby-train operation: trains no longer have to be stopped or returned to depot. (These keys are used in ERTMS to secure train-track connections.) 4 Alstom Transport Alstom Transport 5
