Additionally you can use it, modify it and extend it any time. The system consists of four core components: an onboard unit in every vehicle; a web portal for displaying data and managing drivers, vehicles, and apps, which can be used on any internet-enabled computer, smartphone, or tablet; telematics applications from various vendors, designed with a uniform app architecture; and a shop offering these apps. You pay a basic monthly fee for use of the system and basic functions. Via the shop, you can subscribe to any other apps or cancel them. 5

Costly calls to determine location are no longer necessary. The better the vehicles are utilized, the more efficient the fleet operations are. The Work Advanced app documents route-specific driving and idling times and speeds and lets you optimize planning. The Area Monitoring app informs you when your vehicles reach the trucking company's premises or the customer or leave them. That improves your tracking, protection against theft, but also if information is being forwarded, also reduces the drives waiting times for loading or unloading. In road haulage, route planning has to be vehicle-specific. The Truck Navigation app takes information about vehicle's dimensions, weights, and hazardous materials classes and information on environmental zones into account when calculating routes. That saves you and your drivers costly detours and fines. The Order Fulfillment Basic allows for fast, clear communication between your dispatchers and the drivers on the road. Take advantage of mobile data transfer for cost optimization DigiTacho Download DigiTacho D8-Info Digital tachographs collect information on your drivers' driving times, work times, and rest times. With the DigiTacho D8-Info app, your dispatchers can view the current times and incorporate them directly in planning, for instance in compiling routes. However the data gathered aren't only useful in day-to-day operations; by law, they also must be regularly documented and archived. 14
"If we assume duration of 30 minutes at an hourly pay-rate of 15.00, manually reading and archiving the data collected in the vehicle costs 7.50. Since the driver card must be read off at least every 28 days, this cost is incurred monthly for every vehicle. On top of this there are the extra kilometers that the driver sometimes has to drive back to the company premises for the data to be read off. At a price of 1.10/l and consumption of 26 l/100 km, even 15 km mean 4.30 in additional fuel costs. If the apps take over the process of reading off the data, the monthly costs are 5.99 for DigiTacho Download and 1.99 for DigiTacho D8-Info, leaving a total savings of 3.80 per vehicle. With 100 vehicles, that comes to 4,560.00 per year." 15
Reduce the fuel consumption of your fleet Gentle Driver Truck Driver Feedback Driving style influences fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, and vehicle wear. Gentle Driver Truck helps you examine and analyze your drivers, evaluate them with a driver ranking, and carry out subsequent optimizations. Driver Feedback points out undesirable driving behavior immediately via a driver feedback system. These include excessive speeds, driving in non-optimal RPM ranges for the motor, long idling periods with the motor running, aggressive acceleration, and abrupt braking. This gives drivers the opportunity to continually monitor their driving style and correct it. A gentle driving style saves fuel and reduces maintenance and repair costs. 16
"Using the Gentle Driver Truck and Driver Feedback apps can lead to fuel savings of 2%. With a fuel consumption of 26 l/100 km and a fuel price of 1.10/l, fuel cost are reduced from 28.60 to 28.00 per 100 km. If we multiply this savings of 0.60 /100 km by a total mileage of 80,000 km per year, the vehicle's fuel costs are reduced by 480.00 per year. If the fleet contains 100 vehicles, that's 48,000 a year. If we deduct the monthly app fees per vehicle of 8.99 for Gentle Driver Truck and 5.99 for Driver Feedback, a savings of 30,000 remains. On top of this there are reduced maintenance and repair costs." 17
Be meticulous about fuel consumption and emissions Fuel Consumption You get precise information on the fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions of all vehicles in the fleet at a glance. The Fuel Consumption app makes current and collected values available. This adds transparency and reduces work costs no one has to compare the tank levels to the mileages anymore. The app provides the necessary consumption data for driver training, purchasing decisions, and checking gas station bills. "One employee requires 3 minutes per vehicle per day to record the tank level manually. Assuming 240 business days per year and an hourly pay-rate of 8.00, the monthly costs come to 8.00 per vehicle. When using Fuel Consumption, the monthly app fee is 2.99, the company saves 5.00 per vehicle per month. Extrapolating to a fleet of 100 vehicles yields potential savings of 500.00 per month or 6,000.00 per year. 18
Professionalize your vehicle inspection Pre-Trip Inspection Inspection is the best preparation for a trip. Before a vehicle leaves the garage, it is checked with the Pre-Trip Inspection App, with no paperwork. The maintenance personnel receive vehicle-specific checklists via any internet-enabled mobile device, read the data needed directly off the onboard unit, record e.g. contamination or bodywork damage by hand, and forward the results to you digitally. Proper vehicle inspection is ensured and management effort is reduced. "Collecting and managing paper checklists takes 3 minutes per vehicle per day. With 100 vehicles and 240 business days, that's 1,200 hours a year. If we estimate the hourly pay-rate of maintenance personnel at 11.00, the costs amount to 13,200.00 a year. In contrast, with a monthly fee of 7.99, the Pre-Trip Inspection app only costs 9,600.00. Using it saves the company 3,600.00 a year." 19
Openmatics offers your drivers onboard support Gone is the inconvenience of equipping your vehicles with numerous hardware components in order to be able to use various telematics services. With Openmatics, all you need is "Bach", a small, powerful onboard unit that we've developed specially for the trucking industry. A hybrid system with three processors, it always provides smooth data traffic, independent of the number and type of telematics applications. Good telematics support requires no more space than 16.5 x 10.4 x 3.8 cm. Scale of 1:1 20
Developed for high performance in your vehicles A hybrid system, Bach has three independent processors, one CPU and two MCUs. That increases reliability and flexibility of use and reduces energy consumption. The "always on" status of one of the MCUs ensures continuous monitoring of important vehicle parameters, such as the fuel level, even when the motor is off. The entire onboard unit wakes up and becomes active when needed. Bach can read, store, and transmit data from both wireless (ISM, Bluetooth, BLE) and wired (1-wire) sensors. Thanks to a series of integrated sensors, Bach makes it possible to display a complete vehicle motion model and thus supports GPS. Bach works with a GPS module that supports all current navigation satellite systems and is prepared for future ones. Bach's basic software is based on Linux, which supports the Openmatics SDK model. 21

A secure connection for your driver displays The Bach onboard unit has an interface to all standard Android displays. When the driver connects the driver display to the onboard unit, it switches automatically to driving mode. That means that the display can only be used for Openmatics apps during the trip. The advantages: The display can be replaced at any time. Standard displays can be used; the user is not bound to one particular terminal device. The display makes it possible to use existing Android apps. Safety and security improve, because the driver is not distracted by other uses of the display. 23
Is this the next app developer? You want an app that doesn't even exist yet? No problem. With Openmatics you can develop company-specific telematics applications yourself or have them developed by partners. To implement your app ideas, you get the Openmatics Software Development Kit (SDK), which contains all the tools needed to create apps. Before your desired app is released for the platform, it undergoes a certification process to check its technical quality.
