INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR UKSSOGATEWAY 1) Install the UKSSOGateway application on the desktop: The UKSSOGateway application passes information from the myuk portal to launch the FESClient. The FESClient application is installed directly on the desktop the first time the FESClient is selected from the myuk portal. The program is copied from the share \\nemo.ad.uky.edu\fesclient to the C:\UKSSO\FESClient directory. The UKSSOGateway application detects FESClient version changes and automatically updates the copy on the desktop. The user must have an Active Directory account, in either the AD or MC domain, with access to read files from the share. Access is granted after passing the assessment for FI_FES_315. The UKSSOGateway installation program is available on the share. \\nemo.ad.uky.edu\fesclient\ukssogateway\uksso_setup.msi It is recommended that all other applications be closed during this installation. a. Remove existing versions of the UKSSOGateway previously installed on the desktop. Open the Control Panel; Select Add or Remove Programs; Remove programs named UKSSO or UK SSO Gateway. b. Map a network drive to \\nemo.ad.uky.edu\fesclient. (Refer to pages 3-5 for detailed screen prints on mapping a network drive.) c. Navigate to the UKSSOGateway folder and run (double-click) the UKSSO_Setup program to install. Depending on security settings, you may be prompted with the Security Warning. Click Run. d. The UKSSOGateway requires the.net framework. The installation program will prompt for installation of.net framework if not present on the desktop. (Refer to pages 6-9 for detailed screen prints to install the.net framework.) The application will connect to the appropriate Microsoft site. From the Microsoft site, select the download link. Install.NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package x86 version. If the.net framework installation is required, then restart the UKSSOGateway installation procedure by re-running the Setup program (Step 1.c.) e. During the remainder of the installation, you will be prompted several times to proceed to the Next step. Accept all of the installation defaults until FINISHED.
2) For Windows 7 operating system (or later) For Windows 7 or later, accounts in the Users group must be given full control to the directory C:\Program Files\University of Kentucky\UKSSO (as illustrated in screen shot below). The UKSSO Gateway creates and writes to a log file in this directory. The gateway will fail with an error message for users without administrator privileges. Please consult your IT support technician to assist with changing the properties on this directory. 2
3) For desktops that are not in Active Directory, a network drive must be mapped to \\nemo.ad.uky.edu\fesclient to run the FESClient application for the first time. When new versions of the application are detected for download, the gateway prompts the user to map the network drive. Please consult your IT support technician to determine if your computer is in the Active Directory. (Refer to following section for detailed screen prints on mapping a network drive.) Steps for mapping a network drive: 1. Select the My Computer icon from the desktop. 2. From the My Computer window, select Tools menu, Map Network Drive item. 3. Specify the drive letter for the connection. The system will default to an available drive letter. 3
4. Specify the network drive to map to by entering \\nemo.ad.uky.edu\fesclient in the Folder block. Check the Reconnect at logon box. 5. If your computer is in the Active Directory, click the Finish button. Go to step 8. 6. If your computer is not in the Active Directory, click on the link Connect using a different user name. This link prompts you to connect with your Active Directory UserID. In the User name field, enter your Active Directory UserID. This is the ID used on the myuk portal. The domain is required. (The domain is either ad or mc.) Enter your password and click the OK button. 4
7. Click the Finish button. 8. If you have successfully mapped the drive, an Explorer window will open showing the directories in the drive. The map drive procedure is completed. Close this window and the other windows opened during this procedure. 5
Installing the.net framework It is recommended that your IT support technician assist you with this process. When installing the UKSSOGateway, you will be prompted with this message if you do not have the.net framework. Select Yes if you want to proceed, or No if you want to get assistance with this step. If you select Yes, follow these steps: 1. Select the Download x86 version link under the.net Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package section. 6
2. Select the Download button. 3. Select Run, if prompted. 7
4. Follow the wizard through the installation process by selecting the NEXT button. You may be prompted to close the Internet Explorer windows before proceeding. 5. Accept the terms of the License Agreement, and then click the Install button. 8
