A Note From The President I have good and bad news to report, our Chapter still will host training and the exam for the CEM (Certified Energy Manager ) certification the bad news is that the date has been moved out to the week of October 24 th read the full details elsewhere in this month s Newsletter. To make a long story short between getting our website updated for PayPal and other logistics associated with the training, venue and AEE International your board decided that the schedule delay would assure a smooth experience for everyone interested in becoming a CEM. FYI -CEM certification is a internationally recognized credential, having been adopted by a variety of entities throughout the U.S. - for example the CEM was adopted by SAFE-BIDCO for its low-interest loan programs, by D.O.D. for R.F.P.'s for energy audits, and by the Mississippi Energy Department for its auditor certification program. The state of Virginia requires state agencies that spend in excess of $1 million annually to retain an agency energy manager with the CEM credential. In addition, the CEM certification is also recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Office of Federal Energy Management Programs (FEMP), the U.S. Agency for International Development, numerous state energy offices, major utilities, corporations and energy service companies. Thanks to Cliff Braddock of Robust Energy, who presented last month on Combined Heating and Power: Time is Now for Smaller Applications. This month we will be meeting in Austin at the just completed Data Foundry Texas 1 Data Center. The Data Foundry folks will not only present, and give a tour but have also agreed to provide lunch as well so please RSVP by Monday, 8/22, at noon to Annemarie Diaz at adiaz@clearesult.com or 512-633-3494. Have a great month Sincerely, Frank Frank Richards Chapter President presented by

Page 2 Austin and San Antonio August Field Trip Power Design in a Modern Data Center Take an in-depth look at how Data Foundry factored resiliency into the design of Texas 1 s power systems without sacrificing efficiency. Featuring an isolated-redundant design supported by dual independent utility feeds to every power module, Ed Henigin will detail how Texas 1 s unique power system can effectively prevent the cascading failures inherent in the standard paralleling generator setups of today. See this unique design in action! Following the presentation, tours of the facility will be given to those interested. Tours last about 45 minutes to an hour. Edward Henigin CTO of Data Foundry August Guide/Presenter In his 16 years with Data Foundry, Ed has held a variety of positions from first line tech support to customer service, system administration and network administration - covering any role or task that needed attention to get Data Foundry off the ground. Recently, Ed led the design and construction of Texas 1, Data Foundry s flagship data center on the Data Ranch campus, opening in Austin, Texas in June 2011. Ed has been programming since age 11. Soon after graduating college with a physics degree, he met Ron and Carolyn, who were starting an ISP in San Antonio. With a desire to be involved, Ed came on board at the company s infancy in 1994 as the very first employee. Ed is also a shareholder. Tour Logistics Please plan to be onsite by 11:15 AM on Tuesday, 23 August 2011 for the tour. All attendees MUST provide valid ID to participate in tour such as driver s license or other government identification. This ID will be held at the security desk while you are on site. The presentation and lunch will begin at 11:30, followed by the tour of the facility at 12:30. Meeting will adjourn at the conclusion of the tour at 1:30 PM.

An email will be sent to the chapter distribution list with details in the coming week, or look for additional information on our website and in the September issue of this newsletter. Free Workshop! As you might know, SECO has adopted the new ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2010 for state-funded buildings only, effective on September 1, 2011. In order to provide a smooth transition from ASHRAE 90.1-2007, SECO is providing a statewide free workshop series. The first workshop was in Houston in July and the second workshop is scheduled for August 25 in Austin. A third workshop is scheduled for September 21 in Dallas. If you are interested in attending one of those two workshops, please make your online registration in the following SECO website: http://www.seco.cpa.state.tx.us/tbec/edutrain.php.
