14th August 2015 Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment PLACE Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) are a self-assessment of non-clinical services which contribute to healthcare delivered in both the NHS and independent/ private healthcare sector in England. They aim to provide a snapshot of non-clinical activities impacting a patient s experience of the care we provide. The assessment is based around five areas; cleanliness; food and hydration; privacy, dignity and wellbeing; the condition, appearance and maintenance of healthcare premises and finally dementia. Through focussing on the areas which matter to patients, families and/or carers, the PLACE programme aims to promote a range of principles established by the NHS Constitution, including:- Putting patients first Actively encouraging feedback from the public, patients and staff to help improve services Striving to get the basics of quality of care right A commitment to ensure that services are provided in a clean and safe environment that is fit for purpose. There were 1333 assessments over 289 organisations, of which 228 were part of the NHS. So how did we compare? Category National average GMW Score Cleanliness 97.54% % Food and Hydration 88.49% 93.99% Privacy, Dignity and wellbeing 86.03% 95.14% Condition, Maintenance and 90.11% 98.78% appearance of healthcare premises Dementia 74.51% 93.39% As you can see we scored fantastically across the board, surpassing the national average in every category. Notably we came in the top 20 for, Cleanliness and Condition, Maintenance and appearance. This signifies the true quality of care we provide, paying testimony to staff efforts in caring for patients. It directly shows how we are putting Values Into Action, resulting in excellent patient care. To read more information about the assessment, please click here. Thank you and Well Done!
New prison health Centre opens at HMP Haverigg A new healthcare centre at HMP Haverigg Prison in Millom (Cumbria) has officially opened its doors this week, marking way for new and improved healthcare and efficiencies at the facility. HMP Haverigg holds up to 644 male prisoners and our Unity staff work there to provide drug and alcohol services to prisoners. The refurbishment has seen an existing building re-vamped into a new centre for healthcare with improvements such as an increase in rooms and space to accommodate more clinics, and group sessions for patients, a larger waiting room and a new central office space. The opening included a tour of the building an opening ceremony where visitors could look around the renovated facility and a buffet lunch with staff and visitors. The opening was also a chance to thank all staff at HMP Haverigg who work hard in what can be an unpredictable environment. Below are some pictures from the opening:
Dear colleagues We are pleased to inform you that the Trust is to go live with Paris over the period 3 rd - 8 th September This decision has been made following extensive preparations and testing of the system, including service checks and the approval of our Clinical Safety Officer. This means that: -On Thursday 3rd September 16:00 ICIS will be switched to read only (meaning ICIS can be viewed but no new entries made). -On Tuesday 8th September Paris will be switched on (staff will be able to record information and read records migrated from ICIS). The system will be made available as early as possible on the 8th. In the period between these two dates/times, any new information about service users will be recorded via the previously provided Paris Business Continuity Pack. It is important now that you refresh your knowledge of Paris, either by accessing the online materials available on the IM&T Learning Hub, or by attending a refresher half-day classroom session. Completion of the Paris Overview Go Live Revision e-learning module will be compulsory for all users. Further details of this process will follow shortly. Service representatives on the Paris Project Team have been working with the Implementation Team to identify local needs and processes for go-live they will be cascading information over the coming weeks. If you do have specific questions regarding local preparations you can contact your representative, or the Implementation Team directly at paris@gmw.nhs.uk. Finally, during this transition period, we would appreciate your tolerance of events occurring during the changeover you can be assured that the Implementation Team will be working hard to minimise the impact of any issues arising. Regards, Ismail Hafeji Director of Finance, Capital and IM&T. Gill Green Director of Operations and Nursing.
Are you revalidation ready? Revalidation information from the NMC In August, the NMC will be sending out important information on revalidation and how nurses and midwives can prepare for it. Revalidation is the new renewal process which every nurse and midwife will have to undertake every three years. The revalidation process will be entirely online, so it s essential that every nurse and midwife gets an NMC Online account and finds out their renewal date. It s also important to read the provisional guidance and become familiar with the requirements. Watch out for your Are you revalidation ready? postcard, which lists the top three things to do before the process comes into effect. The postcard will be ed to those who already have an NMC Online account, and posted to those who haven t yet signed up. For more revalidation information, tools and resources, you can visit the NMC s website: Flu Training 2015 EXISTING Flu Nurses Training- Refresher Training 2015 Date Time Venue Thursday 27 August 1pm until 3pm Crabtree, Waterdale Thursday 3 September 1pm until 3pm Crabtree, Waterdale Monday 7 September 10am until 12noon Ernest Rutherford Training Room This session is for those that have already been a flu nurse in NEW Flu Nurse Training 2015 Date Time Venue Friday 28 August 1pm until 5pm Hemmingway Room, Harrop House Thursday 3 September 9am until 12noon Crabtree, Waterdale Wednesday 30 September 9am until 1pm Blake Room, Ivy House This session needs to be attended by all new flu nurses for 2015.
Hello, my name is Ken Edwards, I work for First Step Trust, based at the Edenfield Centre on the Prestwich site and I am participating in the Manchester Memory Walk at Heaton Park on Saturday 26 th September Across the UK thousands of people are walking for a world without dementia and to help the Alzheimer s Society continue supporting many people living with dementia in our communities as well as funding vital research. 225,000 people develop dementia every year and many of you will be aware of the effects dementia has on those people s lives. I am doing this walk in memory of my mum who died earlier this year having suffered with vascular dementia over the last four years and couldn t think of a better way to pay tribute to my mum, than supporting this great cause. If you are able to make a donation towards my fundraising, whatever you can manage, it would be greatly appreciated. Donating to my JustGiving page is easy. Copy the link and paste it into your Internet browser and this should take you directly to my fundraising page. JustGiving sends your donation straight to Alzheimer s Society, so it s a quick and safe way to donate. Thank you Ken PS: Should you need to contact me for any reason, my details are; Tel or ken.edwards@firststeptrust.org.uk Research studies currently recruiting GMW is a research active Trust. To find out what mental health research is available for your service users to participate in, please click here. For dementia research please click here.
