Calendar Stay Connected inconvenience. NOVEMBER IN REVIEW Jorge Luis Garcia Perez Antunez Welcoming Dinner Event Commissioner Bovo, Mayor Boria of Doral and local activists welcomed Mr. Antunez at Casa Marin in Hialeah. Jorge Luis is a human rights activist in Cuba.

Commissioner Bovo's Farm Share and Thanksgiving Celebration Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr. teamed up with State Senator René García to give away food to more than 1,000 families, including fresh produce and 350 turkeys. Braving the rains to help out were more than 200 volunteers from the Lions Club of Hialeah, the Women's Club of Hialeah, Hialeah Senior High School's DECA and National Honor Society, Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School's Sorrota Organiz ation, and Girl Scout Troop 338. Sponsors included Farm Share, the Miami Dolphins, the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority, Beauty Schools of America, Walmart, Sedano's Supermarket, Miami-Dade County Fire Department, the Miami-Dade County Police Department, HNTB Corporation, Miami Tech Inc. and Excalibur. "I want to thank all the volunteers and sponsors who helped us feed so many families, and I wish all Miami-Dade residents a wonderful holiday filled with love and happiness," Commissioner Bovo said. "As we enjoy our feasts this Thanksgiving, let's give thanks for all of our blessings, small and large."

Miami Dolphins and Farm Share Event Commissioner Bovo and Vice Chair Bell along with the Miami Dolphins and Farm Share gathered to prepare produce and turkeys to give to needy families across Miami-Dade County.

BCC Special Presentation Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa, Vice Chair Lynda Bell and Commissioner Bovo presented a proclamation to Mr. Fausto Santos, Chair of The Alzheimer's Walk, declaring November 2013 as"national Alzheimer's Disease Awareness and Nation al Caregiver Month" Hialeah Veterans Day Ceremony

Commissioner Bovo along with U.S. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart attended an event in Hialeah for Veterans Day. Also in attendance was LTC Roberto Perez-Montoya, U.S. Army, Gary E. Cardenas, 14th District Vice Commander, Vice Commander American Legion Post 144- Miami Lakes and Larry Sheets, Commander Post 32-Hialeah and Judge Advocate, American Legion Department of Florida.

Miami Lakes Veteran's Day Parade Commissioner Bovo attended the 34th Annual Miami Lakes Veteran's Day Parade with his family and staff on Sunday, November 10. There was also a Ceremony immediately after the parade honoring the Grand Marshal and all Veterans.

City of Hialeah Swearing in Ceremony Commissioner Bovo atteded the Swearing in Ceremony for Mayor Carlos Hernandez, Councilwoman Cue-Fuente, Councilman Gonzalez and Councilman Hernandez. 50th Anniversary Golden Veteran's Day Parade

Commissioner Bovo participated in the Golden Veteran's Day Parade 50th Anniversary Commemoration on Friday, November 8, 2013. Parade began at Flagler street and went into Bayfront Park where the Commemorative Ceremony was held. BCC Special Presentation- Monica Bustinza

Monica Bustinza, a freshman at Miami Dade Honors College, is the creator of a food program called "Meals from the Heart". She started this initiative while attending Monsignor Edward Pace High School. As part of the program, she delivers "meal bags" to students in need at Holy Family School every week for the entire school year to ensure atleast one complete meal for their families for the weeked. We congraulate Monica for her efforts in community and look forward to her work! Ribbon Cutting of Villa Alegria

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the new 72 unit Affordable Elderly Housing/ Multipurpose Facility. The project was designed to be an environmentally friendly and "Green" building. This five-story buildong offers 72 onebedroom/one bath units each with a fully equipped kitchen. 7th Annual Smoking Prevention Summit and Movie Night Commissioner Bovo along side State Senator Rene Garcia cosponsored the Hialeah's 7th Annual Tobacco Prevention Summit where they presented a Despicable Me for the attendees. The summit has held at Goodlet Park.

Miami-Dade County Park Foundation 2013-2014 Noches Tropicales

Noches Tropicales and Tropical Nights are produced each year by Miami-Dade Parks to bring communities closer together through the presentation of culturally diverse entertainment that is free and enjoyable for families. The 2013-2014 Noches Tropicales at Tropical Park include: Tropical/Salsa night featuring Albita on Oct. 18, 2013; Baladas music night featuring Luisa Maria Guell on Dec. 6, 2013; Charanga music featuring Andy Harlow on Feb. 14, 2014; and ending out the season will be Merengue artist Tony Swing on April 4, 2014.
