Mission: The Foundation for Positively Kids is a local Las Vegas based non-profit, dedicated to developing services that can provide comprehensive care for Nevada s medically fragile and/or developmentally delayed children. The Foundation, along with the medical community, has identified critical needs for the development of special programs and facilities designed to care for these children and their families. Vision: To establish a long term pediatric care facility. To provide an environment that has a positive effect on the growth and development of children who are medically fragile. Donate: Please consider a donation to: Foundation for Positively Kids 3555 W. A letter from the desk of Fred Schultz Dear Friends of Positively Kids: As our 2012/2013 fiscal year came to a close we celebrate many great rewards and accomplishments. Our golf and duck fest fund raising events were very successful and garnered us great press and media exposure. We continue to grow our programs due to increases in current grant revenues, and many new grant funders realize the value of supporting our work. We sought and successfully recruited a new director of our medical clinic at Child Haven who also oversees our growing school-based health clinics. We were able to accomplish so much this year thanks to you, our supporters, community parents, donors and elected leaders, and I m grateful to each and every one of you. Taking small steps to make a big difference. Fred Schultz Founder and CEO

Annual Nursing Report FY 2012-2013 The greatest amount of time is devoted to management of the Title IV B grant. We completed the 6th year of the grant, and were awarded our third grant from this program for an additional three year period. Our Medical Compliance Officer, Atousa Ghaneian, M.D. was hired and assisted in the Home Health Policy revision, which will bring us successfully to accreditation. We expect this process to be ready for submission by October, 2013. When this step is complete, we will apply for Medicaid certification. The Performance Improvement (P.I.) committee has been established by our new social worker, Yvonne Moore, MSW. This is an important part of completing the accreditation process. Our Home Health, Respite and Medical Daycare programs are healthy, but services have been limited due to budgetary constraints. I am happy to say that my staff is satisfied working for Positively Kids, and there is very little staff turnover. A new computerized payroll system was established, and the field staff is able to clock in and out on the website via smartphone or computer. The Nevada Disability Conference in Reno was supported by Positively Kids where we attended as an exhibitor. The next conference will be in Las Vegas, and we will again support this endeavor. The greatest challenge for Home Health has been billing for services. This challenge will be resolved with a new billing company.

Positively Kids Annual Report Medical Clinics Pecos Health Clinic The Pecos Healthcare clinic has experienced great growth during the last fiscal year. Two new providers were added to the clinic, Dr. Lesa Brookes and Dr. Atousa Ghaneian. The goal is to see a minimum of 30 patients a day and a maximum of 55. The average has been about 40 patients a day. Efforts were made to put a system in place to drop the rate of No Show patients, which was averaging 30% a month. A part-time staff person was added in the morning to return all calls left on the voicemail system the night before and to call and confirm all medical and dental appointment for the next day. Due to these efforts we have seen a drop in No Show appointments to approximately 19%. A Mental Health component has been added to the clinic with a contract with Healthy Minds. All mental health referrals are directed to them. They are present on the Child Haven campus. Billing has been moved from a contractor, to in-house. Medicaid billing is more consistent and checks are received every Monday from the State Medicaid system. Negotiations were completed with the Department of Family Services for an increase in the annual allotment they provided. The amount was raised 15% a year. The payment process has also been changed to divide the amount into 12 payments. Now payments will be paid every month throughout the entire fiscal year. Campus Nursing: The Campus Nurses located on the Child Haven campus is a stable and successful program. The Department of Family Services has reported they are happy with the program and the quality of care the nursing staff are providing.

They are currently being supervised by a Physician s Assistant and this will soon be transitioned to a Nurse Practitioner. We are at full staff with 4 full-time and 5 part-time nurses. School Clinics: During this past fiscal year we opened two school clinics March 1, 2013. One Physician s Assistant and one Medical Assistant rotates between the two clinics. Per our contractual agreement with Clark County School District, we provide medical care for any child enrolled in the Clark County School District. Neuroscience Program; On March 19, 2013 we began a partnership with Dr. Rooman Ahad, Child Neurologist. She is located at the Cunningham School clinic where she provides Neurological Assessments for all children referred to her from pediatricians throughout the Clark County community. She spends one day a month at the Pecos Healthcare Clinic and provides assessments for children who are suspected of having autism. An EEG machine was purchased with grant money for this program. A technician is on contract and performs EEG s for Dr. Ahad once a week at the clinic. Electronic Medical Record System: To comply with upcoming Federal Mandates and to complete guidelines for a Medical Home Model certification, we have been working on our Electronic Medical Record system. On Sept. 1, 2012, we went live with the system for patient scheduling and medical billing. Dr. Ghaneian will continue in playing a lead role in establishing the format that the doctors will use for the medical records part of the system.

Early Intervention has just completed its fourth year! During that time we have successfully helped hundreds and hundreds of children. Our team is currently seeing 240 children each month. We are completing both initial evaluations and Autism evaluations at our clinic locations. This year we have formed numerous new relationships with other non profits around town. We have continued hosting weekly playgroup sessions at Family 2 Family Connections, which the families love! Our partnership with K.I.D.S (Kids in Distressed Situations) is still going strong. We receive new clothes on a regular basis that we then distribute to our families in need. We have had a high rate of children exiting the program due to them being at age appropriate levels, although it is sad to say goodbye to these families, it is also a time to celebrate their success!!! The year ended with our annual State audit results which were extremely positive. The results reflected the hard work and dedication that all of our staff contributes to Early Intervention and the families that we serve.

Special Events Special Volunteers Our annual events continued this year with our 13th Annual Duck Fest! Located in Town Square with the ducks swimming in the centrally located pond, our vendors and merchant friends came out in force to support this unique family event. Over 3000 rubber ducks were adopted and a great festival was enjoyed by nearly 1000 people. Our friends at MoneyTree once again served as our Presenting Sponsor and joining them were media sponsors FOX 5, Sunny 106.5 and the Review Journal. Swing for the Kids is our annual Golf tournament and once again, it was a great success. Held in Pahrump this year, nearly 60 golfers enjoyed a great day in the sun as they enjoyed golf, lunch and fun on-course activities. Our Gala this year You, the Night and the Music was held at The Bellagio Resort in February with singing sensation Clint Homes headlining the entertainment. An elegant dinner and silent auction were held to commemorate the 13th year of service to medically fragile kids and their families. Three hundred people enjoyed an elegant evening and left knowing that Positively Kids is making huge differences in the lives of of medically fragile kids and their families.
