1 POSITION GUIDE ORGANIZATION: POSITION: REPORTS TO: LOCATION: UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO FOUNDATION President and Chief Executive Officer Board of Directors, University of Colorado Foundation Denver, Colorado PURPOSE The University of Colorado Foundation partners with the University of Colorado to manage private funding for the University s benefit and to support the University s fundraising efforts. This support enables the University to transform lives through education, research, clinical care, and community engagement. ABOUT THE FOUNDATION In 1967, a group of dedicated alumni and community leaders created the University of Colorado Foundation (Foundation) as a private nonprofit, 501c3 to raise private funding, to augment state funding, tuition, government grants and other revenue streams, which fund the University of Colorado (University). The Foundation currently manages $1.5 billion in assets for the benefit of the University, and distributed an aggregate of $125 million in support to the University in fiscal year in 2014 which ended on June 30, 2014 (FY 2014). The Foundation receives, documents and administers contributions and bequests from donors, invests the assets in a manner consistent with the purpose of the gift, and funds a wide variety of programs and activities across the University s four campuses. The Foundation is governed by a Board of sixteen Directors, with a strong Board committee structure. The day-to-day operations of the Foundation are managed by a staff of approximately twenty-five. During FY 2014, more than 70,000 gift and pledge transactions were processed. There are over 2,500 current fund accounts and the Foundation s endowment includes approximately 2,100

2 separate accounts. In the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2014, the University was the beneficiary of a record $298 million in private support, $154 million of which was donated through the Foundation. The Foundation outsources the management of its investment assets. The Foundation s Investment Policy Committee establishes the policy parameters, within which the asset manager operates. With assistance of an outside consultant, the Committee monitors the asset manager s performance and annually decides whether to renew the contract or consider alternative managers. The Foundation s operations are funded from fees earned on assets under management. The majority of the Foundation s revenue is directed to support the fundraising operations of the University. In 2013, fundraising activities were transferred to the University to streamline fund development operations and increase the accountability of University leaders and fundraisers for funding outcomes. As part of this redefinition of the Foundation s mission, approximately 175 fundraising and support personnel were transferred to the University. In 2014, the realignment of roles, systems and operations continues to assure the success of the long-term private fundraising goals.
