Service Features The challenge of migrating complex and hugely expensive legacy applications to the cost-effective, flexible and future-proofed cloud alternatives can be so daunting as to seem hardly worth the risk. CatN and Digi2al have used their previous experiences of migrating and re-engineering enormous legacy applications to new cloud-based hosted infrastructures, to offer Government clients a fully managed process to achieve this elusive result. Service Delivery The service will take place over the following stages. Cloud Adoption Infrastructure Assessment & Guidance This stage is an initial assessment of the project viability from an overall and infrastructure perspective. CatN will: 1. Understand the client s motives for wanting to migrate to cloud service alternatives from current legacy application(s). 2. Identify and ring fence the application or service-set earmarked for a migration to cloud. 3. Audit the current infrastructure / communications, determine the feasibility of cloud based alternatives and verify that existing client processes are suitable for working with cloud services. 4. Identify any initial training requirements. 5. Identify an initial selection of potential service sub-sets for consideration for pilot migrations. 6. Offer initial guidance for adoption of cloud services, based on the organisational assessment, current infrastructure opportunities, constraints and any other immediate concerns, using the traffic light system. 7. Provide a capacity and pricing indication for cloud infrastructure services
Application Software Migration Assessment & Guidance This stage is a secondary assessment of the project viability from the application re-engineering perspective. Digi2al will: 1. Audit the current legacy application(s) and verify the scope of the migration project. 2. Validate the feasibility of re-engineering the application to cloud based services and verify that existing client processes are suitable for working with cloud services. 3. Identify any initial training requirements. 4. Refine the initial selection of potential service sub-sets for consideration for pilot migrations. 5. Offer secondary guidance for adoption of cloud services, based on the software re-engineering opportunities, constraints and any other immediate concerns, using the traffic light system. 6. Provide a capacity and pricing indication for software engineering requirements
Pilot This stage involves the selection, preparation and delivery of an agile pilot migration to prove the concept. CatN and Digi2al will: 1. Shortlist the potential service sub-sets for consideration for pilot migrations, and help the client to determine the final candidate 2. Work with the client to determine the most appropriate pilot 3. Stipulate the infrastructure requirements for the pilot, procure and initiate this infrastructure. 4. Refine the initial selection of potential service sub-sets for consideration for pilot migrations. 5. Re-engineer the pilot service-subset software and use agile methodologies to deliver the cloud-based software application 6. Reintroduce the output from pilot in place of the legacy service subset and troubleshoot if necessary.
Capacity Planning This section involves the extrapolation and quotation for the remainder of the re-engineering and infrastructure requirements - from both CatN and Digi2al Migration This section involves the project management and finessing of the remainder of the legacy application to a cloud-based alternative - from both CatN and Digi2al Cloud Application Lifecycle Management. This section is the remainder of the application lifecycle - support, development and refinement. Note that the intention is that the cloud-based nature of the application will allow it to be hosted with any suitably accredited Open Source cloud-hosting provider in future, so the effective lock-in of current legacy applications should be a thing of the past.
