Applicants are nominated by academic programs dring the admissions process; no separate application is necessary. Other sorces of spport for entering and contining stdents Academic programs may offer incoming master s and doctoral stdents fnding packages that may inclde one or more years of fellowships pls teaching and/or research appointments. Federal agencies and national philanthropic fondations also provide many Berkeley gradate stdents with prestigios fellowships for one or more years. Contining stdents may receive Gradate Division-administered fellowships and grants sch as: Privately-sponsored fellowships for certain areas of stdy Hosing spport grants Parenting spport grants Research travel grants Conference travel grants Smmer research grants Mentoring grants Dissertation writing fellowships In Hmanities and the Social Sciences, the majority of stdents are spported by fellowships that pay tition, fees, and stipends. Abot one in three stdents in these fields are financially spported by gradate stdent instrctor (GSI) appointments, which also impart professional training. The rest are spported by assisting faclty with research or other academic dties. In the Sciences and Engineering, more than for in ten stdents are spported by gradate stdent researcher (GSR) appointments that fnd them to work with faclty on projects that advance their academic goals and professional training. Nearly as many stdents are spported by fellowships. Abot one in six stdents in these fields are spported by gradate stdent instrctor (GSI) appointments, which also impart professional training.
