1 Simultaneous Degrees Application Packet Your application must be reviewed and approved by the major advisers in both colleges or schools, who will verify that your proposed program satisfies all college/school and major requirements and conforms to anticipated departmental course offerings. The planned program you submit, outlining a course of study in both majors, is a contract between yourself, the major departments, and the colleges or schools. Any change in the major programs must be cleared with the major adviser and Dean's representative in both colleges or schools. Instructions Print and complete these five pages, obtaining signatures as required: This instruction page The Program Planning Form, signed by both major advisors The Double Major or Simultaneous Degrees page, indicating the courses you need for each major or department, signed by both major advisors The Petition to Declare a Major, signed by the major advisor in L&S The Petition to Declare Simultaneous Degrees If you are currently enrolled in another school or college, you must first submit these five pages to your Dean's office so that the Petition to Declare Simultaneous Degrees is approved and signed by the appropriate authority BEFORE you submit it to Letters & Science. If you have followed all of the above instructions and met all the criteria listed below, make and retain a copy of your five page packet and submit the original packet to 206 Evans Hall. It will be reviewed by a College Adviser and retained in your College file if approved. In order to meet the senior residence requirements of each college or school, you must submit your application packet at least two semesters prior to your anticipated date of graduation. Note: You will not be permitted to register after the last semester indicated on your planned program. Your application for simultaneous degrees will be considered only when ALL of the following requirements have been met or are included in your program: At least one semester has been completed at UC Berkeley and your overall grade point average is 2.0 or higher. If you are from a school or college other than Letters and Science, your request is more likely to be approved if you meet all other criteria and have a 3.0 or higher GPA. Both halves of the College's reading and composition requirement, the foreign language, and quantitative reasoning requirements have been completed or included in your program. The 7-course breadth requirement has been completed or is included in your program. LIST below the courses you are using to satisfy this requirement. A course can satisfy only one of the 7-course breadth requirements. Arts & Literature: Biological Science: Historical Studies: Philosophy & Values: Physical Science: Social & Behavioral Sciences: International Studies: Your program includes no more than two upper-division courses which overlap between the two majors. Your planned program lists all courses you are taking from the summer session or semester in progress until graduation. Your program must include any remaining University, campus, College, and major requirements. Note that a minimum of 13 units is required each semester unless the College has given you approval for an exception to this minimum. Your planned program includes sufficient units to meet upper division requirements, senior residence, and all other unit requirements for the College of Letters and Science (see ls-advise.berkeley.edu for more information). Your planned program indicates graduation no later than the semester you exceed 136 units; however, you will be permitted one additional semester if you exceed 136 units during the eighth semester of all institutions attended. AP or IB units and units completed before high school graduation do not count towards this 136 unit ceiling. Please Note: You can use the transcript or profile screen on BearFacts, to confirm your Simultaneous Degrees approval one month after you submit the application packet to the College office. If there is a problem with your application, you will be notified by . All contents UC Regents and L&S Undergraduate Advising
