JOB SPECIFICATION 1. Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the organisations goals: 1.1 The Port Lincoln Health Service is committed to safe practice and quality of nursing care by which the community, the profession and other health care workers can assess and measure performance. 1.2 This is supported by organisational structures and processes which ensure: Accountability for the care delivered; Client advocacy; Teamwork and coordination amongst all employees to achieve positive client outcomes. 1.3 The Registered Nurse has a responsibility for promoting the role and function of the registered nurse both internally, and to the community at large.. 1.4 Under the direction of the appropriate manager, the registered nurse is required to provide quality nursing care to all patients/clients treated and/or admitted to the Port Lincoln Health Service. 1.5 2. Reporting / Working Relationships: {To whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation}. 2.1 The Registered Nurse/Midwife is reports to the Manger of the specific clinical area, and is accountable to the Director of Acute Services. 2.2 The Registered Nurse/Midwife provides direct or indirect supervision of Assistants in Nursing, Students in Enrolled Nursing and Enrolled Nurses 2.3 The Registered Nurse/Midwife must establish collaborative and effective working relationship with all nursing and/or midwifery staff. 2.4 The Registered Nurse/Midwife maintains cooperative and productive working relationships with all members of the health care team. 2.5 The Registered Nurse/Midwife is accountable for his/her own practice standards and activities delegated to others. 3. Assessing individual patients/clients needs, planning and implementing or coordinating appropriate service delivery from a range of accepted options Providing health education, counselling and rehabilitation programs to improve the health outcomes of individual patients/clients or groups; Planning and coordinating services including those of other disciplines or agencies as required to meet individual and/or group health care needs; Practicing as a Registered Nurse within a nursing model established to support patient/client care or, as a Registered Midwife working in partnership with women, respecting and supporting their right to self determination in the life processes of pregnancy, birthing and parenthood. Supporting nursing/midwifery practice learning experiences for students undertaking clinical placement, orientation for any new employees and perceptorship of graduates.
