Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887! Exemplar for Internal Assessment Resource German Level 1 Resource title: Planning a School Exchange This exemplar supports assessment against: Achievement Standard 90887 Write a Variety of Text Types in German on Areas of Most Immediate Relevance Grade exemplar The moderators have found generic work suitable to exemplify the grades but may not match an A or B assessment resource. Date version published by Ministry of Education December 2010 To support internal assessment from 2011 Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: Low Excellence 1 Evidence of the student s ability to capably select and successfully use language and language features is provided e.g. Mein Vater hat mir gesagt, dass Sie bald nach Neuseeland kommen werden. Occasional inconsistencies, especially spelling, do not hinder communication e.g. Zum Beispiel in den letzten Ferien sind mein Familie und ich nach Raglan gefahren, um alle die schöne Geschäfe zu besuchen. Over the four texts, the student shows that language is capably selected and successfully used reasonably consistently. 2 Development of ideas/information and opinions is controlled and integrated. The texts communicate beyond the immediate context by referring to the past, present and future. Personal information, ideas and opinions are expressed. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: Low Excellence 3 The student shows the ability to capably select and use language and language features. Some expressions chosen do not show successful selection, but communication is not hindered e.g. Leider habe ich meine Portemonnaie zu Hotel vergessen. This contrasts with some very effective sections of writing, so that the student s work reaches Excellence level overall. 4 Ideas, opinions and information are developed and this development is controlled and integrated it fits at all times with what is said and is appropriate for the task and context. Personal ideas and opinions are expressed. The student has communicated beyond the immediate context by referring to past and future events e.g. In Januar möchte ich nach Deutschland fahren, um Köln zu besichtigen. 5 Inconsistencies do not hinder communication e.g. Ich plane, viel Deutsch zu sprechen, weil ich Fremdsprächen mag. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: High Merit 6 A range of language is selected which communicates beyond the immediate context. Reference is made to past and future events. The language selected fits at all times with what is being said. Appropriate formulaic language is selected e.g. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn du Zeit hast. 7 The student communicates personal information, ideas and opinions and these are developed in a range of texts, but inconsistent use of language sometimes threatens to hinder communication e.g. Um elf Uhr war das Wetter so schrecktlich, wir müssen nach meine Hause gegangen. 8 The text describing experiences in Germany is at a low Excellence level. To achieve at Excellence level overall, the student needs to show evidence that she can write at this level reasonably consistently across a variety of texts. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: High Merit 9 The student selects and uses a range of language and language features, including appropriate conventions such as the salutation in the letter. 10 The student shows that he is able to communicate beyond the immediate context e.g. Das war total langweilig. 11 Personal information, ideas and opinions are communicated. These are developed reasonably consistently across a range of texts and the development is credible and connected e.g. Meine Familie und ich wollten surfen gehen, aber das Wetter war furchtbar windig und es hat geregnet. Ich habe das Schrecklich und sehr blöd gefunden. 12 Inconsistencies in language use do not significantly hinder communication overall e.g. Leider unsere mannschaft hat das spiel verloren. However to achieve Excellence this student would need to show more successful selection of language to show the language can be used with control overall. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: Low Merit 13 The writing is at Merit level for the development of information and ideas e.g. Die angelikanische Kathedrale ist in der Innenstadt. Es ist in der Mitte von Christchurch und ist sehr, sehr alt. 14 Although there are a considerable numbers of inconsistencies, these do not significantly hinder communication e.g. Ich liebe auch Radfahren, Musik höre und schwimme gern. 15 The student refers briefly to past events in one text. She has not shown that she can communicate reasonably consistently about events beyond the immediate context. To be more clearly at Merit level, she needs to include more than a single sentence which is in the past tense. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: Low Merit 16 The student provides evidence that she can communicate beyond the immediate context by referring to events in the past. 17 The student shows that she can develop her ideas reasonably consistently and the development is generally credible and connected e.g. Die Stadt hat schöne Geschäfte, wenn man einkaufen will. Christchurch ist bekannt für die botanischen Garten, besonders bei den Touristen. 18 There are some inconsistencies, but these do not significantly hinder communication overall e.g. Ich denke die Aussicht von oben die Port-Hügel ist toll und wunderschöne. To reach a high Merit level, the student needs to use language more consistently as inconsistencies threaten to significantly hinder communication in isolated cases e.g. Mann spielt auch Netball, aber nicht Hand, wo muss man sehen. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: High Achieved 19 There is some development of information shown across the texts, particularly in the crafted text about an exchange 20 The student has communicated about future events, but the language used is repetitive and is not convincing i.e. there is no development of information or ideas which is generally credible and connected. To achieve at Merit level, the student needs to show the ability to select and use a range of language. For example, the student could communicate about plans and intentions when writing a letter to an exchange partner in a German-speaking country. 21 Inconsistencies in language do not significantly hinder communication, although in some sections they do threaten to hinder communication e.g. Mein Gastvater ist leicht sympathisch, ziemlich selbstbewusst und sehr geduldig aber er ist selten nicht wirken. 22 In the crafted text about an exchange, the student has provided evidence that he can communicate about past events within a developed text. This text is more in the low Merit category, but the other pieces show that the student is not working at this level reasonably consistently. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary : Achieved Low 23 The standard requires the student to communicate about personal ideas, opinions and information on areas of most immediate relevance. He has provided evidence for this and has communicated beyond the immediate context by writing about past and future events. 24 The student achieves communication overall, despite inconsistencies. The writing is at a low Achieved level due to the considerable number of inconsistencies which sometimes threaten to hinder communication e.g. Der Musiksaal ist eine gro! gebaude; Meine Lieblingsfächer ist Sport und Musik, weil es nützlich und einfach ist; Und Stadtbummel jeden Tag nach der Schule. 25 In the paragraph about a holiday, ideas and information are beginning to be communicated in a credible and connected way. To achieve at a higher level, the student needs to show that he can do this reasonably consistently. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: Achieved Low 26 This is a low Achieved as communication is achieved overall, but understanding is hindered at times by inconsistencies e.g. Jenny nimmt mich zu ihrer Arbeit zu aushelfen aufgeräumt. 27 There is some development of information/ideas/opinions e.g. Wanganui ist eine historische Kleinstadt mit einem alten historischen Turm. Wanganui ist nicht weit von Palmerston North die nächste Universitätsstadt. This development is not consistently controlled. 28 The student has provided evidence of the ability to write a variety of text types in German on areas of most immediate relevance and beyond the immediate context. Crown 2010

Exemplar for internal assessment resource German 1.5A for Achievement Standard 90887 Grade Boundary: High Not Achieved 29 Communication is achieved despite inconsistencies e.g. Es hat regnet in Wellington und alles war nass. 30 Language which reflects the objectives of Level 6 of the New Zealand Curriculum is used e.g. Morgen wird es Dauerregen geben. This student has communicated beyond the immediate context by talking about future events. 31 The student has not provided evidence of the ability to write a variety of text types in German on areas of most immediate relevance. All texts selected are similar in both type and purpose i.e. they are straightforward descriptions. To achieve the standard, the student would need to include examples of different text types, such as an email to an exchange partner or a formal letter. Crown 2010
