World Ranking Event Bulletin 1 WELCOME HOC 93 invites all elite orienteers to enter for the WRE Middle Distance as part of the 3 Days of Drenthe. Off course we hope the elite orienteers will take part at all three stages but only competing in the WRE is off course also possible. Feel welcome in the beautiful province of Drenthe in the northern part of the Netherlands and celebrate the 20th anniversary of HOC 93 with us. We have beautiful new areas mapped and especially the WRE will be on a beautiful map with a lot of small details and diverse runnability and visibility. COMPETITION & VENUE COMPETITION CENTRE (CC) During the competition the CC will be on a field just north of the village of Diever. Coordinates: N52 51 54.55 E 6 18 40.07 FORMAT Middle distance for ME/WE, winner time 35. MAP Berkenheuvel, scale 1:10.000, contour interval 2,5m. Newly mapped spring/summer 2013. In accordance with ISOM 2000. TERRAIN Terrain form: Flat to moderately hilly. Vegetation: Mixed forest. Runnability: Very good. Visibility: Good to very good, apart from patches of dense forest. Paths and roads: Developed network of paths and forest roads. EMBARGOED AREA The area indicated on the map below is the embargoed area. For competitors, and others who, through knowledge of the terrain or the competitions, may influence the results of the competitions, it is prohibited to enter the embargoed areas. The embargo is valid until the day prior to the competition.
START/FINISH Start is approximately 1km from the Competition Centre. Finish is at the Competition Centre. PUNCHING SYSTEM The punching system used is SPORTident. Athletes may use their own SI-cards. An SI-card can be rented for EUR 1,50. TRAINING A training map with relevant terrain of the same mapper will be available on 22 nd of August and 23 rd of August until 12:00. There will be some controls (only o-flags) in the terrain. COMPETITION RULES The Competition Rules for IOF Foot Orienteering Events 2012, valid from 1 January 2012, apply. ENTRY Entry is possible via OrienteeringOnline.net. Deadline 1: 30th of June. Cost for all 3 stages EUR 40,- or only WRE EUR 18,-. Deadline 2: 31st of July. Cost for all 3 stages EUR 55,- or only WRE EUR 22,50. Final deadline: After deadline only entry on vacant places available. Please contact info@drenthe3days.nl. Payment: Entry fees have to be paid after having entered. Entry is finally accepted after receiving the entry fee. Extra bank costs are to be paid by the participant.

Prices are generally between EUR 10,- and EUR 30,- per person per night, with accommodation ranging from camping to bed & breakfast. Food prices are on a typical Western Europe level, ranging from EUR 10,- to EUR 30,- for a restaurant meal. During the competition the organisation offers simple food and drinks in the competition arena. TRANSPORT No scheduled transport will be offered to and from the three stages. Participants from certain countries may need a visa or other documents. Please check with your embassy whether these documents are required. The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area. CLIMATE & HAZARDS The typical day temperature for the Netherlands in late August is around 21 C. Night temperature is 14 C. Precipitation is around 80mm in the whole month of August. On average there is around 180 hours of sunshine during August. There are no natural hazards, but we do advise you to beware of ticks. Check yourself after every race, because around 25% of the ticks in the Netherlands carry the bacteria responsible for Lyme s disease.
CLOTHING There are no rules on shoes and clothing. INSURANCE & LIABILITY The organisers decline any liability that might occur through participation in the Drenthe 3 days. Each athlete is responsible for his/her own insurance coverage (illness and accident).
