Barton Healthcare has provided MEP design services for numerous new and/or renovated outpatient surgical facilities. We understand the design challenges of MEP systems for outpatient surgical facilities and specifically consider the following: - Building Utility Requirements - Life Safety Systems - HVAC System Performance - Cost Effective and Lower Maintenance Solutions
Barton Healthcare understands the specific MEP and clinical requirements of Outpatient Surgical facilities and the significant role they play in delivering safe and efficient care to patients in a highly competitive market. Outpatient Surgical facilities are becoming increasingly complex and require mechanical and electrical systems with similar complexity as those serving surgical suites in acute care hospitals. Providing the level of MEP system performance required for regulatory compliance in outpatient surgical facilities is even more challenging when the facility is constructed in, or as part of, a standard medical office building (MOB). The building utility services (electrical power, natural gas, etc.) designed for standard MOBs often do not have adequate capacity to meet the demands of a licensed surgical facility. Our dedicated project teams evaluate all aspects of the project and building service requirements to ensure that the surgical facility s MEP systems meet the state and federal requirements for licensure. Our teams also understand the budgetary and operational limitations of outpatient facilities and strive to define budget-conscious and lower maintenance MEP solutions. If you are planning an outpatient surgical facility project, you need an experienced MEP design team that understands the critical differences in system requirements between an MOB and an outpatient surgical facility. Whether it is defining the appropriate HVAC system to meet airflow, temperature and humidity requirements in the operating rooms, or designing an appropriate emergency power system, Barton Healthcare s teams will help you identify the MEP systems and building requirements necessary to deliver a successful project.
WellSpan Health York, PA New Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital 148,000 sq. ft. $41.4 million April 2012 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a freestanding, 148,000 square-foot surgical and rehabilitation hospital with 73 private rooms on WellSpan Health s Apple Hill Campus. The hospital also includes a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) suite and four operating rooms, as well as an integrated therapy gym, transitional living unit and on-site diagnostic imaging. The facility also includes a full-service kitchen and cafeteria, as well as administration and pre- and post-op areas and support functions. The building s electrical system included paralleled medium voltage generators, a new campus primary metered electrical service and medium voltage site distribution to the hospital, as well as preparations to connect two existing secondary metered buildings to the site power distribution loop. The hospital s electrical distribution consisted of distribution switchboards, panel boards, transformers, multiple automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power supplies for the critical branches of the essential electrical system. The building s mechanical systems included several features and design strategies to improve the building s operational reliability. The building s Reliability Centered Maintenance program and infrastructure systems design created for the new hospital was recognized by UpTime Magazine as the program of the year in the category of Best Design for Reliability.
Hanover Healthcare Plus Hanover, PA Hanover SurgiCenter Fit-Out 10,000 sq. ft. $2.7 million January 2010 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for the fit-out of approximately 10,000 square feet of shell space to create an ambulatory surgical center for Hanover Healthcare Plus. The surgery center included three class C operating rooms as well as sterile supply, prep and recovery spaces and associated office and support space. Barton designed packaged rooftop units with hot water reheat zone control. The project also included a dedicated emergency generator to serve the surgical center. A vacuum pump and bottled oxygen, nitrogen and nitrous oxide gas systems were also added to serve the center.

Capital Medical Center Harrisburg, PA Medical Office Building & Ambulatory Surgery Center 32,000 sq. ft. $4.7 million November 2012 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a new 24,000 square-foot medical office building (MOB) and 8,000 square-foot ambulatory surgery center (ASC). The design for the Medical Office Building was for utility connections for the building, emergency generator, main water and sewer services and HVAC systems consisting of packaged DX equipment. The ASC was designed as a full fit-out with standalone mechanical systems which included two class C operating rooms.
Memorial Hospital York PA Outpatient Endoscopy Center 9,100 sq. ft. $1.1 million July 2008 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for renovations to convert approximately 9,100 square feet of existing medical office space on the third floor of the Surgery Center Building into an outpatient endoscopy suite. The project included 4 endoscopy procedure rooms as well as a central decontamination room, 9 prep/recovery bays and support areas. Barton Healthcare designed packaged rooftop units with high efficiency filtration to serve the suite and extended the existing emergency power system. A duplex vacuum pump, humidity control equipment, medical gas and vacuum distribution system and nurse call system were also added to serve the center. All MEP services were designed and prepped for future expansion of the suite.
