Introduction 02 In today s uncertain global business environment senior managers face unique challenges. They need exceptional leadership skills to manage cross-functional teams; they need an international mindset; they need the ability to successfully manage continuous change; they need the skills, knowledge and confidence to make strategic decisions and implement them, and to complicate matters further, they need to do all this whilst also creating value. INSEAD s world-class, comprehensive General Management Programmes are designed to accelerate your effectiveness as a manager, increase your performance and to help you drive effective change. Designed and delivered by some of the world s best faculty, you will gain the confidence to make the decisions needed to succeed, expand your thinking and learn what it takes to become an exceptional business leader. For senior leaders, our Advanced Management Programme is a reflective process that offers participants insight into the way in which they exercise judgement. Transition to General Management is designed to smoothe and accelerate the transition from functional/technical management into general management. The Management Acceleration Programme is designed for early career high-potential executives equipping them with a general management perspective. The Asian International Executive Programme prepares executives for senior management challenges in Asia. Accelerate your move into management The Management Acceleration Programme acts as a navigation tool for early career highpotential executives equipping them with a general management perspective. It will broaden your general business knowledge, deepen your competence in key functional disciplines and expand your leadership skills. Framed by the crucial concept of Value-Based Management, you will learn how to create-andcapture-value while forging a community with international like-minded potentials. Key benefits Become a more confident manager ready for new responsibilities, with new knowledge, skills and self-awareness Focus on creating value and providing leadership to become a more effective manager Return to the office ready to make an immediate impact with a fresh perspective encompassing the bigger business picture and a longer-term view

Programme content 03 Lead inside and out This part of the programme will teach you not simply how to manage for value, but how to lead for value. Above all, it offers opportunities to develop your personal leadership abilities and explore the way you work with others. Leading within: organisational behaviour Companies, like all human groups, are essentially people in search of the best ways of working together. And, like all human groups, this requires effective leadership. Companies, however, require unusually all-round leaders, people who are skilled at interpersonal relations and communication but also adept with broader structural and cultural issues. Starting from this premise, you ll examine topics such as: Leading individuals (communication and feedback) Working with teams and leading them Organisational culture Leading organisational change. Leading outside: strategy Get to grips with the fundamentals of strategic analysis, including the latest techniques. As well as understanding how to compete as a single company within a single industry, learn how to build and manage a portfolio of businesses. Topics include: Analysis by industry, market and competition Developing and sustaining competitive advantage Changing the rules of the game: Blue Ocean Strategy Strategic resources and alliances Corporate expansion, mergers and acquisitions. Set Your Leadership Agenda (SYLA) A hands-on exercise to draw up your personal agenda for leadership. It involves your colleagues from work and the programme in 360-degree feedback and group coaching designed to pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses. Expand and Explore We take you on a learning journey through all the parts of a business which create, capture and deliver value. You soon arrive at the point where you not only have a broad perspective on business but the ability to analyse complex problems in each area, regardless of your own background. Finance Financial reporting is not only required by law for publicly traded firms, but is also essential for instituting management discipline. We first help you to develop a deep understanding of the main financial statements, their interactions, and their key drivers. We then show you how these rich sources of information are used for strategic decision making as well as for performance monitoring and management. Topics include: Managing liquidity Valuation and long-term decisions Investment Requirements of the company s strategy Constraints of the financial markets.

Management accounting The availability of unbiased financial and operational data is central to a wide range of management responsibilities, including strategic decision making and performance management. We ll show you how some widely used management accounting systems often mislead managers, and provide you with tools to help you identify information that really is relevant. We ll cover areas such as: Classification, behaviour and use of management accounting data Control systems. Marketing Successful marketing is all about developing a coherent and systematic approach. From reviewing the most important issues to practising qualitative and quantitative analysis, we develop your ability to make structured marketing decisions in situations that initially seem totally unstructured. Topics may include the following: Marketing strategy and the marketing mix Communications Channels of distribution Pricing and product policy. Integrate and Reintegrate Throughout the programme, several linking moments help you to integrate its various parts into one whole, value-creating perspective. But the final chapter explicitly connects everything you ve learnt over the previous weeks, preparing you for immediate impact on your return to the office. Competitive business simulation This powerful, two-and-a-half-day session allows you to live the challenging decisions of a manager leading an entrepreneurial firm. Under the expert guidance of INSEAD faculty, you grow your business from a small local company into a mature international organisation, competing with your fellow participants to win contracts and market share. It s a one-off opportunity that leaves you buzzing with energy and ideas for the reallife challenges to come. To learn more about the Management Acceleration Programme and download the application form, visit: http://executive.education. insead.edu/management_acceleration/ 04 Operations and supply chain management While strategy is about direction setting, and finance about performance management, operations and supply chain management is about execution. We ll discuss the key challenges to value creation in a supply network, but also introduce coordinating initiatives for value capture in a decentralised organisation. Issues typically include: Value creation breaking the cost-service trade-off Value capture aligning the network The role of technology in synchronising the supply chain ecosystem.

Learning process 05 How you learn is as important as what you learn. After half a century of educating managers, we at INSEAD know that simply passing on knowledge is not enough. Our programmes stand out because we challenge assumptions providing insights that lead to innovation and impact. Dynamic and diverse learning Thought-provoking lectures to grasp the latest thinking and the most complex concepts Interactive case studies based on real-life business dilemmas Group work that enables you to learn from experiences very different to your own 360-degree tools developed here at INSEAD to meet your precise needs Group coaching, again using our unique INSEAD Global Leadership Centre (IGLC) approach Simulations to test your combined skills and knowledge in a highly competitive yet riskfree environment Hands-on, outdoor team exercises learning by doing We also acknowledge that you ll learn as much from each other as you do from our faculty. That s why the programme is built around teamwork in a variety of groups. By sharing experiences with professors and participants, you ll focus diverse and brilliant minds on your day-to-day business issues. This sharing continues beyond the classroom in lunches, breaks and social activities, all designed to facilitate contact and exchange. Continuous or modular Depending on your needs and timing, you can choose to complete the programme over three continuous weeks on our Europe Campus in France or in two separate sessions, with the first two weeks on our Asia Campus in Singapore and the final week on our Europe Campus in Fontainebleau. Either way, you ll cover the same wide-ranging curriculum. Online platform A few weeks before the programme starts you ll receive a login and password for the dedicated online platform. This will give you further information, as well as the schedule and preparatory reading to download. You ll also have access to profiles of your fellow participants. That s because the Management Acceleration Programme is much more than a course it s also a community. Follow-up The online platform keeps the community connected long after the programme is over. But, as well as a networking medium, the platform is a continuous learning tool. It provides access to INSEAD s multimedia Knowledge site and helps to ensure that your professional and personal growth never stops. INSEAD s unique approach to group coaching doesn t finish with the programme either. After 100 days, there s a follow-up session by phone to cement your learning and support your continued impact at work. Campus Information 06 As one of the largest of the world s leading business schools and certainly the most international INSEAD is well placed to make an impact on your business. INSEAD is unique in having a three-campus structure, with a European campus in Fontainebleau, France, an Asian campus in Singapore and a Middle Eastern campus in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The campuses are equally diverse and all have worldclass faculty in residence. Executive programmes run at one, two or even across all three of our main locations. Our Customised Programmes can also be held anywhere in the world. Europe Campus Fontainebleau, the home of INSEAD s Europe Campus, is spread across 8 hectares. Nestled in the vast forest of Fontainebleau, the modern architecture of the campus blends harmoniously with the green and leafy surroundings. Facilities are of the highest standard and include 28 lecture theatres, 2 restaurants, a bar, a bookshop, extensive library resources and a fully equipped gym. Asia Campus The Asia Campus is situated in the greenery of the Buona Vista area, the country s knowledge hub, and is just 25 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from the financial district. It occupies a 2.8-hectare site and has 7 amphitheatres with a total capacity of 500 and an 85-room residence. Abu Dhabi Campus Abu Dhabi is the home of INSEAD s third campus, which is just 25 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from the Corniche. This new, 12-storey, 6,000 square-metre building, purposely designed for Executive Education, presents a whole new world of possibilities for management education in the Middle East.

Faculty 07 All the breadth and depth of the programme is personified in its faculty. INSEAD s professors represent many cultures, many disciplines, many perspectives. At the same time, they re acknowledged world experts in their own particular fields and outstanding teachers. With strong track records in research and teaching, our faculty also remain intimately close to business. Most are engaged in cross-disciplinary research, either through dual-subject appointments to INSEAD or through the school s multi-faceted research centres. Our innovative Knowledge website showcases all the latest research from our faculty including articles, white papers, videos and podcasts. Please view http://knowledge.insead.edu/home.cfm. Unlike many schools, we make sure that our own highly rated professors represent the vast majority of the faculty on our General Management Programmes. As a professional body, INSEAD s professors are a diverse collection of great minds that think anything but alike. That s what makes the Transition to General Management programme such a great learning experience. But they all share a deep understanding of business and a commitment to helping you do it better.

Charles Galunic Programme Director Professor of Organisational Behaviour What I love about this programme is the surprise factor. People get into a groove in their jobs. They reach a comfort zone where they re locked into a certain way of thinking about business. Then they come to INSEAD, where they re surprised by the things they ve never known about and how much more there is to learn. I take even more delight in the knowledge that the surprise is going to make them better managers afterwards. 08

Martin Gargiulo Programme Director Professor of Organisation Behaviour For me the best thing about the programme is that the participants are all thirsty for ideas, models and frameworks to help them through one of the hardest transitions they ll ever make. If they re not in the midst of the transition to manager, they re in the early stages of it or just emerging. 09 It s important to realise that managing isn t just about having direct reports. It s about getting things done through other people, rather than by yourself. And that means that areas such as the role of informal networks and influencing without authority take centre stage.

Gianpiero Petriglieri Programme Director Affiliate Professor of Organisational Behaviour 10 I always look forward to being immersed in the community that the programme brings together. It is incredibly diverse and yet bound by something everyone shares. They are all emerging leaders. They are facing delicate transitions in their professional and personal lives. You can sense it in the room, that unique mix of ambition and uncertainty, the hope to craft careers and life trajectories that are both successful and meaningful. I am inspired by the participants commitment to acquire new knowledge, to examine the ways they think and act, and to learn from and with each other ultimately, to become the best managers and leaders they can be.

Bissada (The United States, Egypt) Emeritus Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise Jacob Cohen (The United States) Affiliate Professor of Accounting and Control and Business Law Pekka Hietala (Finland) Professor of Finance Jasjit Singh (India) Assistant Professor of Strategy Kevin Kaiser (Canada) Senior Affiliate Professor of Finance Deigan Morris( The United Kingdom) Emeritus Professor of Accounting and Control Andrew Shipilov (Ukraine) Assistant Professor of Strategy Thomas Hellwig (Germany) Programme Director, INSEAD Global Leadership Centre David Weinstein (Israel) Emeritus Professor of Marketing Hernan Bruno (Argentina) Assistant Professor of Marketing Enver Yucesan (Turkey) Professor of Operations Management To learn more about the Management Acceleration Programme and download the application form, visit: http://executive.education.insead.edu/ management_acceleration/faculty/ Paddy Padmanabhan (The United States) Professor of Marketing

Participant profile 12 Management Acceleration Programme participants tend to fit the following profile. Emerging leaders early in their careers as managers, or high-value individual contributors close to gaining management responsibilities Those with potential for future senior general management positions/roles typically graduates with at least five years work experience in a role with some operating, corporate or management responsibility From candidates to community INSEAD provides the opportunity to meet and stay in touch with fellow participants through the programme s online platform, but the real sense of community comes from the class itself. Some participant networks are still in touch decades after coming to INSEAD. Others have even developed businesses together. There s something about the cross-cultural relationships formed at INSEAD that makes them particularly strong and enduring. From participants to alumni As well as becoming part of your own class community, you leave the Management Acceleration Programme as a full member of the INSEAD alumni community. Only graduates of our world-famous MBA, Executive MBA and PhD programmes, together with selected former Executive Education participants, are eligible for membership in this elite worldwide network. Today we have 41,100 alumni in around 160 countries, many with very active National Alumni Associations. Any Questions? 16 INSEAD has expert programme advisers, who are there to support Management Acceleration Programme candidates and participants. Here are some of the questions that we re most frequently asked. But if you have any further queries about the programme, how it fits with your needs or how the selection process works, we are here to help. Do get in touch using the contact details below. INSEAD Europe Campus Janet Burdillat Programme Advisor, Open-enrolment Programmes Executive Education Boulevard de Constance 77305 Fontainebleau Cedex, France Tel: +33 (0)1 60 72 42 03 Fax: +33 (0)1 60 74 55 13 Email: MAP_Contact@insead.edu Alternatively you can use the following contacts for more general enquiries. INSEAD Asia Campus Meow Kim Ong Tel: +65 6799 5405 Fax: +65 6799 5299 Email: MAP_Contact@insead.edu INSEAD Abu Dhabi Campus Adey Zaghab Tel: +971 2 651 53 41 Fax: +971 2 446 03 03 Email: MAP_Contact@insead.edu Why should I choose INSEAD above other business schools? We think our diversity is our distinguishing feature. INSEAD is probably the only school where you ll find 30 nationalities in the same class. And it s certainly the only school where no single one of those 30 nationalities will predominate. Having said that, our faculty are among the best (and most diverse) in the world too! What s the difference between the modular and continuous versions? The content is almost identical. However, we think it makes sense to spend a little more time on Asian issues during the two weeks of the modular version that is spent in Singapore. We d recommend the modular version to those who have a special interest in Asia or who are looking for an even more international experience than INSEAD usually offers. Please note that the modules are not interchangeable. Why should I do a General Management Programme? INSEAD s world-class, comprehensive business leadership General Management Programmes will equip you with the skills, knowledge and the confidence to achieve a successful transition on your journey to becoming a great business leader. Created and delivered by some of the world s best faculty, each one of these programmes will challenge assumptions and enhance leadership skills, delivering a broader vision to both you and your organisation. Depending on your level and experience, we offer the Advanced Management Programme, Transition to General Management, Management Acceleration Programme and the Asian International Executive Programme.

Why is diversity so important? The obvious answer is that business is more international than ever before. But it s the subtle answer that s much more powerful. With so many different national and cultural perspectives to learn from, you really will start to see things differently. By challenging your old assumptions, you ll become aware of new possibilities and start to understand how very different people think. How do I know that this General Management programme is right for me? It s all about the amount of experience you have and the stage you re at in your career. Management Acceleration Programme participants generally have approximately five years work experience and have the potential for future senior general management positions. If you would like to compare the Management Acceleration Programme with the other general management options, take alook at our easy-touse table. We also strongly encourage you to get in touch with Janet Burdillat to discuss the various options in relation to your specific needs and abilities. Is the emphasis on soft leadership skills or hard knowledge, tools and frameworks? To be successful in business you need to balance your soft skills with your fundamental business understanding. So the programme seeks to enhance your understanding across the full business spectrum, while also developing your leadership capabilities. It s such an integrated programme that soft and hard skills are intertwined and built together. Do I have to attend the sessions on my own area of expertise? Absolutely. First, you might gain a new perspective on your field. And second, you will have the valuable experience of passing on your expertise to classmates from other disciplines. It s by sharing insights that people learn at INSEAD, as well as by listening to the wisdom of our faculty of course. So what do I do next? You re talented, motivated, ambitious and hungry to learn. And you ve read this far. So the next step is to apply using the form at www.executive. education.insead.edu/management_acceleration. When you need INSEAD again, for the transition into general management or an even more senior post, we ll be there for you and your company.
