Medical Professionalism in the Clinical Environment July 2003 - May 2008 Purpose: Year III students during the Internal Medicine clerkship engage two one-hour interactive discussion sessions. Hour 1 includes how a profession is distinct from a job and challenges to the doctor-patient relationship. Hour 2 focuses on required elements that determine capacity for medical decision making and criteria for surrogate decision-making. Students are also invited to confidentially discuss any situations they have experienced as challenges to their professionalism since starting medical school.
