Named coach of the year from numerous organizations including: American Football Coaches Association, Schutt Sports/American Football Monthly, the Black Coaches Association, and the Virginia Sports Information Directors. Defense set school record with 29 interceptions. Coached DE Lawrence Sidbury who finished the year with 11.5 sacks and was drafted in the 4 th round of the NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. 2007 University of Virginia Defense finished 17 th in total defense, 13 th in scoring defense. This was the 2 nd year 4

in a row that the defense finished in the top 20 nationally. Coached Chris Long, a finalist for the Lombardi, Lott and Nagurski Trophies awarded to the nation s top Defensive Lineman. Long was also the winner of the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, a consensus All- American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Long was drafted in the 1 st round of the 2008 NFL Draft with the 2 nd overall pick by the St. Louis Rams. 2006 University of Virginia Defense finished 17 th in total defense, 26 th in scoring defense and 19 th in passing defense. This was the best UVA defensive finish in 27 years for a first year coordinator.
