The Catalan nanobiomedicine alliance BioNanoMed Catalunya
BioNanoMed Catalunya The Catalan nanobiomedicine alliance Nanobiomedicine is one of the strong points of research in Catalonia (Biocat Report 2009*). Catalonia is the pioneer in Spain and has created specialised centres which are now international references in this area. According to publications by the United States National Library of Medicine (PubMed) a member of the NIH (National Institute of Health), Barcelona is the second city in the world, after Boston, for the origin of scientific publications on nanomedicine. Catalonia one of the most outstanding bioregions in Southern Europe - has a growing number of biotechnology and chemical-pharmaceutical companies doing research on, or using, nanotechnology in their processes. Proof of this is the information contained in this brochure, a collection of research groups, institutions and companies whose priority area is research into nanobiomedicine. On the basis of this potential, the BioNanoMed Catalonia alliance has been created to favour synergy between groups, centres, hospitals and companies carrying out research in nanotechnology applied to health and biotechnology in Catalonia, enabling them to create new business and research opportunities, and to further increase the international footprint of this platform. * www.biocat.cat/en/publications/report
