2 EFSA SCIENTIFIC NETWORK FOR RISK ASSESSMENT OF NANOTECHNOLOGIES IN FOOD AND FEED 22 February 2011 Dr Djien Liem Head of Unit Scientific Committee and Advisory Forum 2
3 Terms of Reference - NanoNetwork Overall goals are to: facilitate harmonisation of assessment practices and methodologies; to enhance exchange of information and data between EFSA and MS; and to achieve synergies in risk assessment activities Anticipating and reducing the duplication of activities and hence avoiding divergence of opinions. 3
4 Working Methods The network will meet physically at least once a year Other means of cooperation: exchanges of risk assessments of Member States National Competent Authorities and other information via the EFSA Information Exchange Platform (IEP) s on specific questions or issues Outputs The activities of the network should be recorded in meeting minutes and in annual reports. These will be published 4

Safety of Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products.
15 SPANISH NODE DISCUSSION Concerning the Guide Difficulty to apply the guide without a clear definition and control methodology. This can affect the innovation of the nanotechnology in food. Regulation and security evaluation: They are only experience to evaluate Titanium nitride to be used as contact material. The main use of the nanotechnology would be in the use of additives as delivery system. One benefits would be the reduction of the additives concentration - Communication initiatives from EFSA and coordination of the Spanish research groups working in nano related to food
