Spadoni College of Education Gifted and Talented Endorsement Online Course Offerings Spadoni College of Education at Coastal Carolina University is pleased to offer the two online courses required for the Gifted and Talented Endorsement. These courses are offered through a South Carolina State Department of Education grant, which provides selected students with tuition and course textbooks. January 4-February 26 EDUC 608 Nature and Needs of the Gifted and Talented (3) This is an introductory survey course in the education of gifted and talented students. It provides an overview of the historical and philosophical background of gifted education, as well as a rationale for it. This course focuses on the characteristics, needs, problems, and developmental patterns of gifted and talented students, including special populations of gifted and talented students and methods of talent development. March 7-April 29 EDUC 609 Introduction to Curriculum and Instruction for Gifted and Talented (3)This course focuses on a study of the background, purposes and current curriculum/instruction practices in the field of gifted education including theoretical applications to curriculum development for the gifted student. Problematic conditions and possible solutions are included. Space is limited and preference will be given to candidates from the Georgetown, Marion, and Williamsburg School Districts. Spring and Summer 2016 Gifted Education Endorsement Courses Offered through College of Charleston Funded by SC Department of Education To pre-register for any of these courses you must contact Kandy White by email: whitee@cofc.edu Enrollment for teachers is based on priority and need. The priorities are described for each course in the table below. To request a space in the course, eligible teachers must complete and email the course pre-registration form, with all information AND have their principal send an email directly to Kandy White that verifies their priority level as Priority 1, 2, or 3. Puryear, ScEdD Intended Audience: This course is intended for certified teachers interested in obtaining initial and advanced gifted education endorsement. Teachers enrolling in the course must provide a copy of their teaching certificate or proof that they have been awarded an education degree. Tuition: These courses are offered through a South Carolina State Department of Education grant. Tuition and textbooks are included for all chosen participates. Individuals who are enrolled as a non-degree graduate student and are new to the USC system must pay a $45 application fee. A new federal regulation requires all colleges and universities to verify US Citizenship of students taking classes. After initial acceptance into the course, we will need to verify your US citizenship through one of the following ways: Drivers License- only if your first SC driver s license was issued after January 1, 2002. Passport Birth Certificate- if your last name is now different than what is on the birth certificate then a marriage certificate will be required also.
