ST OUNI SURVY RSUTS The Middlebury ollege Staff ouncil (MS) conducted a workplace climate survey in September 2011. The survey was emailed to 775 staff members at the ollege, with paper copies of the survey made available to staff who preferred to respond in that fashion. total of 474 completed surveys were received, representing a 61% response rate. (The response rate was highest in istrict ollege dvancement/ommunications with 83% of staff responding, and lowest in ining, with 32% of staff responding.) The survey contained questions in a variety of categories. To simplify reporting, responses to all items in a category were averaged to create nine scales, with the tenth category overall job satisfaction measured by a single question. Statistical analyses indicated that responses within each category were appropriately consistent to justify this. Negatively-worded items were rescored so that all scale items were scored in the same direction. The average ratings for all staff across the ten question categories are provided in the chart below. The remaining charts show the pattern of responses to each question category broken down by Staff ouncil districts. verage Overall Ratings Overall ob Satisfaction Recent hanges in Workload/Stress 4.01 4.19 Very dissatisfied to Very satisfied ecreased greatly to Increased greatly Workplace quity 2.85 ompensation Performance valuation ommunication ffectiveness ccess to Information omfort Raising Workplace oncerns Opportunities for Professional Growth Work/ife alance 3.33 3.15 3.21 3.37 3.28 3.29 1 2 3 4 5 Very dissatisfied to Very satisfied Very ineffective to Very effective 5
