2 Human Resource Management Human Resource (HR) management is the planning, executing and controlling of the selection, assignment and function of human resources the people and teams that will work to complete the project successfully 2

4 Prepare HR Plan A Human Resources (HR) plan is a definition of how the Project Manager expects to acquire and assemble project staff in terms of: Quantity of project resources by expertise Availability of the resources internally or whether the project must contract externally Timing of resource work start and end dates on the project 4

6 Key Roles/Responsibilities The Executive Sponsor is the individual with primary responsibility for achieving the project s objectives and motivating project participants through leadership The Steering Committee is responsible for guiding or steering the project to successful completion The Change Manager is the individual responsible for initiating, planning, executing and controlling change management activities The Project Manager is the individual with primary responsibility for successful project completion 6

9 Acquire Project Team A resource assignment is the designation of specific project tasks to a specific individual, including: A commitment to do this project with the best staff available to achieve associated objectives Provision of backfill resources Compensation of resources at the same rate for their project time as their current assignment Advancement of these assigned individuals based on their project participation even though they are not available to perform their normal job duties 9

11 Manage Project Team Project team management involves assigning project tasks, assessing ongoing and completed work against predefined baseline scope, schedule, cost and quality, and correcting variances 11
12 Manage Conflict Win/Lose Controlling or using power to win your position instead of resolving the conflict. Win/Yield (Lose) Neglecting your own position in the conflict to accommodate the other person s point of view. Win/Leave (Lose) Avoiding the conflict resolution. Win/Win Collaborating with the other person to find a solution that fully resolves the conflict to both parties satisfaction. Mini Win/Mini Lose Compromising or seeking a middle ground, which partially satisfies both parties, but fails to fully resolve the conflict.
