Ms Desmarchelier manages the Milan Post which has responsibility for consular for Northern Italy and trade and investment for Italy and Cyprus. The Milan office s primary role is to promote Australia as a destination for productive foreign direct investment for Italian companies and a study destination for Italian students of all levels. Ms Desmarchelier has extensive business and legal experience having worked with a variety of industries in Australia and Europe. From 2006 to 2009 she was Vice President at leading investment banks Lazard and Deutsche Bank in London. Prior to her investment banking career Simone forged a legal career in Brisbane and Sydney principally working as Senior Associate with Australian firms Minter Ellison and Gilbert + Tobin. From 2004 to 2006 Simone was Corporate Counsel for international mining services company Runge Group.. Joshua Anderson Business Development Manager Europe & Russia Meat & Livestock Australia Josh has had a long standing connection to Australian agriculture coming from his parents farming operations in Queensland and New South Wales. Josh undertook his formal education at the University of New England studying a Bachelor of Agribusiness. Prior to joining MLA Josh was employed in the agricultural banking sector working across a wide variety of agricultural business sectors. Josh joined MLA in 2009 where he worked as part of the trade and economic services team collecting and reporting on domestic industry figures and trends, and later going on to manage the National Livestock Reporting Service. Josh was appointed to Business Development Manager Europe and Russia in June 2014. Currently Josh is engaged in the strategic implementation of MLA investment in marketing and market access throughout Europe.
FUORI EXPO AUSTRALIA AGRI-FOOD INVESTMENT SEMINAR John Kirkegaard Senior Principal Research Scientist Plant Industry CSIRO John was raised on the Darling Downs in rural Queensland and studied Agriculture at school, and then at Queensland University where he gained his Bachelor of Agriculture in 1983 (1st class Honours). He completed his PhD in 1990 at the same University investigating the impact of soil compaction from heavy agricultural machinery on the growth of grain legumes. In 1990 he joined CSIRO as a farming systems agronomist focussed on the development of more sustainable dryland farming systems in southern Australia. Rising to the level of Chief Research Scientist in 2014, his research team has been at the forefront of numerous national Initiatives on conservation agriculture over 25 years designed to improve productivity and resource-use efficiency in Agriculture. He is regularly invited to speak at International meetings on aspects of sustainability and food security and his career has included two periods of research based in UK (John Innes Centre, 1997) and University of Copenhagen (2012). He has hosted more than 10 International scientists on research projects within his team in Australia and co-supervised numerous PhD students. He was recently awarded the prestigious Eureka Prize for Sustainable Agriculture for his work to improve water use efficiency in Australian farming systems. Najib Lawand General Manager Market Development FIAL Food Innovation Australia Ltd With a successful, 20-year career history leading food export businesses and Agrifood industry development teams, in both the private and public sectors in Australia, Najib Lawand is well positioned to identify and share new revenue opportunities. Najib is known for his capabilities in opening new markets and attracting investment at a business and industry cluster level and has worked across the Middle Eastern, South East Asian and Pacific Island markets in this capacity. As Export and Operations Director for two businesses between 1993 and 2010, Najib implemented market entry strategies for Australian fresh produce, dairy products and in particular manufactured foods and beverages. Since 2010, Najib has worked in NSW Trade and Investment, strategically advising businesses and government on factors that lead to growth in the Agrifood sector. Najib engages with key executives along the entire Agrifood value chain, across iconic brands and organisations integral to Australian food industry success.najib graduated from the University of Technology in Sydney with a Bachelor of Business, majoring in marketing. Gianluca Carenzo is also running an incubator program for innovative start- ups in the agrifood & health sector, namely ALIMENTA. Is member of the board of start- up companies; expert in consultancy for selection of funding opportunity for innovative SMEs, technical assistance in the due diligence finance process and business planning consultancy and cluster management and cooperation; coordinator of the national working group on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy. in ASSOBIOTEC, the Italian association of biotech industries. Member of the Board of Directors of APSTI, the Italian association of Science and Technology Parks; coordinating the activities of CAT.AL, the Cluster High Technology Agrofood in Lombardia Region. Member of the strategic committee of the Banca Popolare di Lodi Foundation. As expert in cluster management and benchmarking (ESCA certified benchmarking expert), is the technical coordinator of the Feeding the Planet project for the internationalization of SME s from three major European food clusters into emerging markets. Alessandra Stella Scientific Director PTP Parco Tecnologico Padano Alessandra Stella coordinates the scientific activities at PTP and she is a research scientist at the National Research Council of Italy. She holds a Ph.D. in Statistical Genetics from the University of Guelph, Canada and has 20 years experience in the application of statistical and bio-informatic methods to the analysis of plant and animal genomic data. Her main research interests are the application of novel models and algorithms to the analysis and integration of -omics data. Moreover, she s developed methods and tools for the integration of genomic, phenotypic and environmental information. She has been involved as WP coordinator in 8 EU funded research projects. Her work is represented in (co-)authorship of more than 70 peer reviewed papers.
