The Bachelor of Equine Science is a new three-year program to prepare you for such a career while studying at one of the world s top 100 universities. Equine science covers horse nutrition, breeding, exercise physiology, health and rehabilitation, welfare and behaviour and explores the interaction between horse and rider. UQ Gatton is home to world-renowned scientists with expertise in horse nutrition, breeding, exercise physiology, equitation, rehabilitation, welfare and behaviour. Agronomy use scientific principles to enhance the production of crops for food and energy, and to manage the environmental impacts of agriculture. Agronomists are very much in demand. Learn from leading plant and soil scientists who help farmers and producers use their land more effectively, increase their yields, and assist in solving or preventing problems with soils and crops. Horticulture investigate the intensive production of fruit, vegetables, nursery and floricultural crops, turf and plants for recreational and therapeutic benefit and to enhance the urban landscape. You will acquire skills in horticulture, which deals with science, technology and business in intensive plant production. Livestock and poultry science examine principles of animal behaviour and management to ensure the profitable, ethical and sustainable management of livestock and poultry. As a veterinary technologist you will be an integral member of an animal healthcare team caring for and handling companion and production animals, and skilled in routine laboratory and clinical support procedures for veterinary radiography, anaesthesia, surgery, pathology, clinical pathology, nutrition, veterinary therapeutics, and professional communications and animal reproduction. You will study animal handling, welfare and behaviour, clinical aspects of small and large animal health, applied and clinical nutrition, veterinary pharmacology, veterinary pathology, veterinary therapeutics, diagnostic practices, veterinary surgical nursing principles, and veterinary practice management. The Bachelor of Wildlife Science is a new, three-year, hands on degree that focuses on animal biology and management of wild animals, including their ecology and conservation. As a wildlife scientist you will study native and exotic amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals in their natural or man-made environments, their biodiversity, and the emerging issues associated with human-wildlife interactions.
