University Information Technology Services Training, Outreach, Learning Technologies & Video Production HallPass Instructions for Connecting to your Campus PC Using the ipad The following explains how to setup and connect to a VPN, install and use the Microsoft RDP app on your mobile device, and connect to your office PC using an ipad. Note: If you are accessing your KSU Windows computer from off-campus, you must first turn on the VPN in the ipad Settings. The VPN mode must be turned off for on-campus remote access to your computer. Setting up VPN on your ipad VPN is a network that is constructed by the Internet to connect to a private network, such as a company s internal network. 1. Access the settings on your ipad by tapping on the Settings icon (See Figure 1). Figure 1 - Settings 2. Tap on General under Settings. Under the General list on the right, scroll down and tap on VPN (See Figure 2). Figure 2 - Accessing the VPN Settings Page 1 of 8

3. Tap on Add VPN Configuration (See Figure 3). Figure 3 - Add VPN Configuration 4. The Add Configuration window will appear. Tap PPTP at the top, and complete the VPN Configuration as follows (See Figure 4): Description Hallpass Server hallpass.kennesaw.edu Account - <Your KSU NetID> Password - <Your KSU NetID Password> 5. Tap Save to save your configuration. Figure 4 - VPN Configuration 6. Your VPN configuration is complete. Tap VPN under Settings to turn on VPN (See Figure 5). Installing Microsoft RDP on your ipad 1. From the App store on the ipad, search for Microsoft RDP. 2. Select and install the free Microsoft Remote Desktop ipad app (See Figure 6). Figure 6 - Free Microsoft RDP App 3. Launch the app. On the launch screen, tap on the plus button in the upper-right corner (See Figure 7). Figure 7 Plus Button 4. Tap Add PC or Server from the drop-down list (See Figure 8). Figure 8 - Add PC or Server Page 3 of 8

5. The Create Connection screen appears. Tap the PC Name field (See Figure 9). Figure 9 - PC Name 6. The Add Remote Desktop screen appears. Type <Full Name of your Office PC>.win.kennesaw.edu and tap Done (See Figure 10). Figure 10 - Add Remote Desktop Note: Your office PC name can be found by right-clicking on the Computer icon on your Desktop and selecting Properties. The View basic information about your computer window will appear and your Full Computer Name will be displayed near the bottom of the window (See Figure 11). 8. The User Names screen appears. Tap Add User Account (See Figure 13). Figure 13 - Add User Account 9. The Add User Account screen appears. Type the following (See Figure 14): User Name - win.kennesaw.edu\<your KSU NETID> Password - <Your KSU NETID Password> 10. Tap Save (See Figure 15). 12. Your Remote Desktop settings will be saved. Tap the image of your PC name to connect to your Office PC (See Figure 17). Figure 17 - Access Office PC Note: The first time you connect, you will be asked to accept client authentication (See Figure 18). a. Tap the switch next to Don t ask me again for connection to this computer. b. Tap Accept in the upper-right corner. Figure 18 - Accept Client Authentication 10. You will now be connected to your Office PC. Tap the Keyboard Icon to bring up tools like the keyboard, Number pad, and Windows key (See Figure 19). Figure 19 - Keyboard Icon Page 6 of 8

11. Tap your PC Name at the top of the screen to open the Connection Bar (See Figure 20). Figure 20 - Connection Bar 12. From here you can switch between Touch controls (your finger acts as a mouse), Mouse Pointer controls (you drag your finger to move the mouse cursor), and close your current session (See Figure 21). 13. After closing your session, you will be returned to the launch screen (See Figure 22). Figure 22 - Launch Screen 14. Tap and hold the image of your PC name to access the settings, or delete the profile for this computer (See Figure 23).
