WORKSHOPS FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS Note: Times and prices will be amended where possible to suit school schedules. MEDIA ARTS MAKE-A-MOVIE WORKSHOP In this practical, hands-on course, students learn the step-by-step processes involved in making a short film or music video. As a group they will choose a movie genre, brainstorm a plot, discuss narrative structures and create a storyboard. The workshop then covers technical aspects such as key film equipment and how camera shots and movement can create meaning, crew roles and continuity. Students then participate in creating sets, costumes and props, and then crew and act in the film too. Full professional filmmaking kit provided. The final edit will be completed off-site and students will receive a copy of the completed film on DVD with artwork within 2 weeks. Editing training where the students can edit their film themselves is additional. Suitable for Yrs 4, 5 & 6 Media Arts Developing skills and processes & Exploring/representing ideas 3 days (approx 18 hours contact time incl. breaks) Min 7/Max 14 participants $1,800 + GST Editing - $300/3 hrs or $500/5.5hrs + GST GREEN SCREEN WORKSHOP This workshop can be themed around magic (Harry Potter), sci-fi (Star Wars) or just incorporating the fun-est video effects we know kids love to produce. Using a green backdrop or a simple green cloth, students improvise short scenes, then view their scene and make suggestions during an editing demonstration. This workshop can also be conducted as an excursion to Filmbites Green Screen Studio in Malaga during school hours. Students receive a link to download their work following the workshop. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES GAMING (with Gamemaker) Kids love games! Instead of just playing them, why not learn how to make them? The Gamemaker program is a great introduction to game design and development, offering a simple environment in which to learn some core skills such as algorithms, branching and iteration (steps, decisions and repetition). Not only is it easy to use, it s also free, which means after they ve been taught the basics, your students can download it at home for free and continue creating. Processes and production skills: Digital implementation /Investigating & defining/designing/producing & implementing/evaluating/collaborating & managing Years 4, 5 & 6 2 x 1.75hr hr workshops = $580 + GST (minimum) 3 x 1.75 hr workshops = $730 + GST (held on same day) VISUAL ARTS MAKE-UP SFX (Monster Fingers, Burns & Bruises, Forensic SFX) Makeup SFX workshops are a fun and interesting way to introduce students to new materials and skills. Students also get to see how visual arts skills and training translate into an exciting and rewarding career in the film and television industry! Participants will develop and apply some of the techniques and processes used by makeup SFX artists, looking at shape, colour, line, space, texture and value, to create a look. Different workshop themes are available, including Monster Fingers, Burns & Bruises and Forensic SFX, or we can devise workshops to align with your class theme. Editing training where the students can edit their film themselves is an additional $500 pr day. Yrs 7-10 - Media Studies: Media languages & Skills & processes 3 days (approx 18 hours contact time incl. breaks) Min 7/Max 14 participants $1800 + GST UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE! Knowing how to use a range of softwares means greater effectiveness, efficiency and employability. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced workshops are available in a range of programs. In each workshop participants will work through 2-3 activities to achieve a certain level of competency. Beginner level workshops provide an introduction to the interface, basic navigation and key tools in order to utilise the basic functions of the software. Intermediate level workshops see the participant learning how to use the software to achieve more complex outcomes. Advanced workshops see the participant learn skills and processes which increase speed and effectiveness as well as add at least one other complex task. MOBILE FILMMAKING WORKSHOP Learn or enhance your skills in how to use smart phones or tablets to shoot, edit and upload short filmed pieces. The workshop includes tips to get the most out of your equipment, free apps that offer additional possibilities and advice on where to publish. Participants will shoot a short selfdevised scene or piece to camera to edit and send live. Yrs 7-10 - Media Studies: Media languages & Skills & Processes 5.5hrs = $850 + GST Max 15 participants GREEN SCREEN WORKSHOP This workshop covers film production equipment, crew roles and filming techniques necessary to incorporate green screen VFX into your movies. Students will improvise and film their own short scenes, then participate in a an editing demonstration (half-day) or can be shown how to utilise specific software to incorporate the VFX themselves (full day). This workshop can also be conducted as an excursion to Filmbites Green Screen Studio in Malaga during school hours. Students receive a link to download their work following the workshop. Yrs 7-10 - Media Studies: Media languages & Skills & Processes 2.75 hr filming & editing demo = $450 + GST 5.5hr filming and hands-on editing = $850 + GST Max 15 participants MULTIPLE AREA WORKSHOPS FILMBITES TASTER WORKSHOP Students undertake 3 x 1.5hr workshops in: Screen Acting focusing on the key differences between stage and screen acting Makeup SFX choose from a range of workshop themes including Monster Fingers, Burns & Bruises, Forensic SFX and Ageing Green Screen learn about fundamental equipment and crew roles, work in small groups to devise short scenes, take turns as crew and actors using a green cloth or screen, then watch a demo on how it is all brought to life Participants receive a copy of their green screen work by email link. Gaming may also be a workshop if requested. 1 day (approx 6 hours contact time incl. breaks x 3 teaching artists) Min 15/Max 45 participants $1,790 + GST

Drama and Media students will also find these skills useful and interesting and be able to incorporate them into their production work. Students also get to see how visual arts skills and training translate into an exciting and rewarding career in the film and television industry! Participants will develop and apply some of the techniques and processes used by makeup SFX artists, looking at shape, colour, line, space, texture and value, to create a look. Different workshop themes are available, or we can devise workshops to align with your class theme. Years 7 10: Visual Arts - Arts Practice Drama Design & Technology Media Studies Skills & Processes 2 x 1.5 hr w shops (excl. Latex Masks) = $540 + GST (minimum, held on same day, or 1 x 3hrs) 1 x 3 hr w shop (Latex Masks) = $640 + GST (15 participants) 3 x 1.5hr = $740 + GST (held on same day) DRAMA SCREEN ACTING WORKSHOP Students are shown the key differences between stage and screen acting. Primary focus areas include naturalism (verbal and non-verbal techniques), hitting the mark, camera awareness and continuity. Participants will be filmed and review their work during their work to enhance their understanding in a practical way.
