High Holy Days at CRJ Selichot - this service with its mystical overtones usually occurs the Saturday night immediately preceding Rosh Hashanah. It is intended to prepare us for the self- evaluation and reflection that we will be required to be engaged in during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The Hebrew word selichot means forgiveness. Family Service - a less formal worship experience on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur where children and parents participate together. The liturgy is creative and the music will be geared toward children. Tashlich - from the Hebrew meaning to cast away. A ceremony of prayer and music and of symbolically casting away ones sins into running water. Shabbat Shuvah - the Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The liturgy includes special readings for the High Holy Days. Kever Avot (Memorial Service at CRJ Cemetery) - in Jewish tradition one visits the cemetery between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Those who came before us have had a significant impact on who we are, and therefore, we remember them at this time when Judaism requires us to be introspective. Yom Kippur Discussion - an interactive and participatory discussion on a theme related to the High Holy Days. Yom Kippur Meditation Service - a participatory and less formal Service where readings and prayers are read aloud by congregants. Special musical accompaniment with a harp is part of this intimate service of turning inward. Yom Kippur Yizkor - the traditional memorial service is intended for those who have experienced a death in their family. Our CRJ Yizkor prayer book is used and congregants may memorialize loved ones through The Book of Remembrance. Yom Kippur Healing Service - a time for personal reflection focusing on Jewish prayers, liturgy and readings related to healing and wholeness. A special prayer book is provided to allow congregants to reflect upon these themes and the teachings of the High Holy Days. Special music and blessings will provide an atmosphere for this reflective time. Yom Kippur Neilah - taken from the Hebrew meaning to close or lock. This is the concluding Service of Yom Kippur where the final blast of the shofar is sounded and the fast is broken.
