Gorilla CRM System Installation Instructions
Preparation Your office environment will determine the type of Gorilla installation needed on each workstation. Answer the following questions before proceeding with your Gorilla installation: 1. Will you be running Gorilla on a network? 2. If you will be running Gorilla on a network, how many computers will you be using? 3. Will you be using a peer-to-peer network, or a Client Server Setup? 4. What type of installation will be done on each workstation? Required Materials a. Master Setup Gorilla is installed with the full program and all of the utilities needed to maintain database integrity. We recommend using this installation type for the CO s computer. b. Non-Master Setup Gorilla is installed with the full program, and does not include the database utilities. This installation type is recommended for other users in your office. c. Satellite Setup A limited version of Gorilla is installed. You will not be able to do Messaging or Campaigns. This installation type is recommended if you cannot connect to the database through a network. d. Upgrade From a Previous Version Upgrades from an existing version of Gorilla to the latest version. Note: Click here to go the instructions for upgrading your Gorilla from a previous version. Gorilla Installation files Your Gorilla database file. Note: If you just arrived back from the Gorilla Training Seminar, your database will be posted on the My Files, located on the System Users page at billgood.com. The download password was given to you with your materials as you left the class. Upgrading From Gorilla 4.0 Important Information Regarding Upgrading Gorilla If you are upgrading from any version of Gorilla prior to Gorilla 4.0, do not proceed with the upgrade without contacting software support first. Once you start the upgrade, anyone with the old version of Gorilla will not be able to use Gorilla until you have completed the upgrade on their computer. Preparation 1. Perform a weekly backup!! Place the backup on the desktop, a flash drive, or CD. 2. If you have any satellite computers that use the satellite import/export wizard to synchronize data, import the satellite before proceeding with the upgrade. 3. Run the Database fixer and Compact Database Utilities. 4. On each workstation, click on Tools Options, switch to the directories tab. Write down the first five directories for each computer. Upgrade the computer that stores the database before upgrading any other computers. If Your Database Is On a Network Verify that the Gorilla database is in the default location on the database hosting computer. For Gorilla 4.0: C:\Program Files\Bill Good Marketing\Gorilla CRM System for Financial Services\Database Replace the Database Once you have finished the upgrade on the first computer, you should find the database in: C:/Program Files/Bill Good Marketing/Gorilla CRM System for Financial Services/Database/ The newly upgraded database should now be called B43.mdb. Move the database back to the location it was in before you started the upgrade on the first computer. 2010, Bill Good Marketing. All rights reserved. 2
Installing Gorilla 1. Close all opened programs on your computer. Insert the Gorilla Installation CD. 2. The installation should start automatically. If you receive an Auto Play box, choose to Run setup.exe. If nothing happens when you insert the CD, open up your My Computer, find and open the CD Drive, and double click on setup.exe. 3. The first screen of the installation is the Welcome Screen. Click Next. 4. Review the License Agreement. If you agree, Click Yes. 5. The default installation destination does not need to be altered in most cases. Only change this destination if you have a specific reason to do so. Click Next. Note: You can store you Gorilla Database and Data folder on a network, but the Gorilla software must be installed locally. 6. Select the installation type that will be used on this computer. Click Next. 7. In Select Program Folder, leave the default settings as they are, and click Next. 8. On the Check Setup Information Screen, verify that the options you selected show on the screen. If everything looks correct, click Next. The installation typically takes several minutes. 9. Once the installation has finished, click Finish. 2010, Bill Good Marketing. All rights reserved. 3
Peer-to Peer Network Setup Moving the database on to the Database Hosting Computer 1. Once you have installed Gorilla on the computer that will host the Gorilla database, share the folder your Gorilla data will be located in. We recommend sharing C:\Program Files\Bill Good Marketing. When setting up this shared folder, make sure that it has full control permissions. If the folder does not have the correct permissions, Gorilla will not be able to function correctly. Note: You may need to have a certified network technician assist you with the set up of your network. Software support will not be able to assist you with setting up your network. 2. Download your Gorilla database and data folder off My Files. 3. Open My Computer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Bill Good Marketing\Gorilla CRM System for Financial Services\Database. 4. Right click on the database file you download in step 2 and select Explore. Right click on B42.mdb and select Copy. 5. Switch back to the database folder you opened in step 3. Right click, and select Paste. 6. Unzip/Extract the data file you download in step 2 to the desktop. 7. Right click on the Data folder now on your desktop and select Copy. 8. Move back to the folder you opened in step 3. Go back one folder until you are just in the C:\Program Files\Bill Good Marketing\Gorilla CRM System for Financial Services\ directory. Right click on the existing data folder and select Rename. Change it to something such as Data_Original. Right Click in any empty space, and select Paste. 9. Client Server Network Setup Note: You do not need to have Gorilla installed on the server if it will only be hosting your data. Move Gorilla Data and Database to Server 1. Set up a directory on the server computer that has full permissions for the Gorilla data to reside in. Note: You may need to have a certified network technician assist you with the set up of your network. Software support will not be able to assist you with that. 2. Download your database as well as the data file from My Files. 3. Unzip the files that you download off My Files. Create a folder inside the shared directory title Database and place B43.mdb inside it. 4. Move the Data folder to the same directory as the Database folder. Setting the Directories on Each Computer 1. Double Click on the Gorilla Icon. The following message should pop up: 2. Click Yes. Navigate to the location you recorded where the Gorilla database is located, and double click on B43.mdb. 3. Gorilla will open. Log In. 4. Click Tools Options, then select the directories tab. 5. Setting up Messaging on each Workstation If you are running Office 2010 you will need to correct the templates and macro security in Word. Click here for those steps. If you have Office 2003 or 2007 you can use the steps below. 1. Open Gorilla and log in. 2. Click Messaging Document Manager. 3. Click the Fix Word button in the top right corner of the document manager. 4. When the Fix Word User Templates Window comes up, click Fix. 5.
