About 75 church leaders gathered in the Great Hall at Lakeshore Center for the afternoon. It was wonderful to have some of our supporters here to experience the beauty Lakeshore has to offer. Lunch was served, discussions took place, and plans for the future were set in motion. We are always praying for you. Thank you for your hard work! Thank you Prospect Hill Presbytery! Email us your prayer requests! Presbytery Meeting Fall Work Day On October 4th, we will be having our annual Fall Work day. This is a very important day for us because it helps us prepare our grounds, cabins, & facility for the winter months. It s a big job, and that s why we are inviting all of you to join us for the day. We will serve breakfast and lunch as a thank you for taking the time to donate your attention and talents to Lakeshore. If you are traveling from afar or would like to come the night before, we invite you to stay in The Lodge on Oct. 3rd for no charge at all. It s just another way we can thank you for volunteering at our work day. Read more about the event on pg. 4 Click to LIKE us on Facebook! Weekly Prayer Focus Please pray for all the children that are returning to school this month. Please pray for individuals who attend our retreats. Pray that they feel a sense of renewal & tranquility while they are here. Cross Talk E-News September 15th, 2014 Mission Complete Before the children and families came to camp, we asked that they help us complete one of our summer missions. We asked them to save and bring any kind of donations for the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. We weren t sure what to expect, but all of the children and families saved throughout the year, and generously brought bags full of the money they wanted to donate. After a summer full of collecting donations from the camper & families, we are very proud to say that we raised $624.84 for the Disaster Assistance! Thank you so much campers and families! Event Wrap-Up This past week, we had our Conflict Transformation Skills Workshop. Twelve individuals joined us for this workshop that was led by Bob Houser, a retired pastor and general presbyter. The attendees learned how to transform conflict constructively. They had the chance to learn from Bob, each other, and other professionals Bob encompassed in his learning materials. Thank you to everyone who attended this beneficial event. We got great feedback regarding the event, and we hope that we will able to host this event again in the future. A big thank you Bob Houser as well! It s important to sign up for events early, so that we can plan accordingly for staffing, meals, and it also allows us to share in the excitement! 2014 2015 Calendar September 26-28: Hobby & Art Retreat October 4: Fall Work Day October 9-11: A Prayer Life that Fits with Gary Neal Hansen December 6: Christmas at the Lake January 16-18 Scrapbook Retreat March 8-12: Quilt Retreat 1864 Hwy. 86 Milford, IA 51351 712.337.3313 lakeshorecenteratokoboji.org

It has been five years since this building opened! I was blessed to be a part of that service as a member of the Board. It was a great day of celebration. Another event happened this month 60 years ago. On September 17, 1954, the contract for the purchase of what is now Lakeshore Center at Okoboji was signed. That event started this whole thing we call Lakeshore Center. It gave countless campers the opportunity to experience God at summer camp along the shores of West lake Okoboji. It allowed for Board members to have a vision of this beautiful slice of God s creation to be used all year long by building our Lodge. And that one act allowed thousands of adults to also enjoy this space to grow closer to God. In our day-to-day work here, it can get frustrating. We beg and plead with people all the time to come and enjoy this space. We try to encourage people to just come and spend time here and they will see a difference in their lives. Sometimes, people listen. Sometimes, they don t. We would love to share the stunning views, the visits from wildlife, and the peace that is found here with everyone. I guess remembering the chance people took 60 years ago to make their vision a reality is also a gift. A gift to remember that with God all things are possible! They took this property, complete with the ruins of the Okoboji Club still here, worked tirelessly in planning, and helped to nurture the vision and passed it on. Remembering where we have been and how far, incredibly far, we have come is an amazing gift. God is good! May we continue to capture that vision and see where God and the Holy Spirit will take us next! Blessings, The Okoboji Club The Entrance Beth Eagle Eye View 1864 Hwy. 86 Milford, IA 51351 712.337.3313 lakeshorecenteratokoboji.org
