Teaching Experience and Interests Since I arrived at the University of Texas at San Antonio in January, 2006, I have taught three or four courses each semester. These courses have included Introduction to Psychology, Motivation and Emotion, Theories of Learning, Social Psychology of Prejudice and Stereotypes, and Attitudes. Prior to my arrival at UTSA, I worked in the professional program of Psychology at The University of Tromsø (Norway). This program is a degree program that integrates broad academic training across all domains of psychology with practical work in clinical psychology. This is the highest level degree typically attained by Norwegians who do work related to psychology after graduation, including everything from psychological counseling to organizational psychology. Admission to the professional program generally follows two years of university courses in basic psychology, and the professional program itself lasts five years. The resulting degree is generally viewed as being at a level higher than a Master s Degree from the United States but lower than a Ph.D. Within this program, my teaching responsibilities included teaching courses in Health Psychology, Research Methods, Basic Statistics, Intermediate Statistics, and Introduction to Psychology, in addition to supervising. I also supervised 1-2 projects per year at a level approximately equivalent to that of a Master s Thesis, in addition to 4-6 smaller projects related to intermediate degree requirements. The University of Tromsø does not provide formal teaching evaluations for teaching courses. I do have formal teaching evaluations from my time at UTSA, and my ratings have typically been in the category representing the 70 th to 90 th percentile. Those ratings are available upon request.

Research Interests My research can be divided into three domains: (1) eating disturbances; (2) stereotypes; and (3) survey development and translation. The overall aim of my dissertation was to study individual difference factors that potentially increase the risk for the development of eating disorders. Specifically, this research examined personality, attachment and self-concept development as predictors of disturbed eating patterns, as well as studying the effect of seasonality and light variations on eating disturbances. My current research has involved exploring the implicit and explicit structure of a Fat Stereotype. Recent research has suggested that stereotype content might be subdivided into competence and warmth dimensions. The competence dimension contains characteristics such as independent, self-assured and smart, whereas the warmth dimension includes characteristics such as good-natured, sincere and friendly. Research related to stereotypes of overweight people, however, has traditionally emphasized a unidimensional negative view of overweight people, focusing on implicit and explicit negative attitudes and stereotypes toward overweight individuals. For example, overweight people are characterized as more slovenly, idle, and pleasure seeking but less attractive, intelligent, and self disciplined than normalweight individuals. My survey work has involved developing new instruments as well as developing translations of existing instruments. In particular, I have been closely involved with a large-scale translation project to produce validated Norwegian versions of many commonly used questionnaires related to social psychology and consumer psychology.
