Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Secondary 1 We published new curriculum frameworks for both Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Secondary 1 in 2011. These are available to download from both the public website www.cie.org.uk and the secure support websites for schools which are registered to offer the programmes. We have also published revised Cambridge Progression tests to accompany both programmes. We now have tests in English, mathematics and science for stages 3 6 for Cambridge Primary and stages 7 9 for Cambridge Secondary 1. The tests are housed on the secure support websites for these programmes. In 2012 we will hold the first Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests for English, mathematics and science. These tests are in place of the Cambridge Primary Achievement tests, the last of which were available in October/November 2011. Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests are available only for schools who are registered to offer Cambridge Primary. Specimen papers are available at http://www.cie.org.uk/qualifications/academic/primary/primarycheckpoint/index_html. Cambridge Primary Checkpoint, which will be marked by us, offers comprehensive reporting on a learner's strengths and weaknesses at the end of Cambridge Primary in the key curriculum areas. The entry fee for Cambridge Primary Checkpoint can be found in the fees lists. The fees lists are available to download under the My Messages section of the CIE Direct website: https://direct.cie.org.uk/loginform/ Teachers preparing their learners for Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint tests in 2012 and subsequent years should be using the Cambridge Secondary 1 curriculum frameworks which were published in January 2011. Please visit our website www.cie.org.uk to download the new curriculum frameworks and if there are any queries, please contact Customer Services at international@cie.org.uk. Business subjects (continued) Enterprise Enterprise, Syllabus 0454 (continued) Changes to Component 2 In response to feedback from Centres and examiners, we have made some changes to streamline the requirements of the Coursework component (Component 2). Task 1 A formal written report is now the only requirement. We provide details in the syllabus of what the report should cover. Task 2 Candidates no longer have to submit a risk assessment as part of their planning. The witness statement of the candidate s financial presentation must be submitted in writing. We will not accept video recordings as evidence, owing to practical difficulties in providing and accessing video recordings. We have included a requirement in the planning marketing communications task for candidates to present their proposed marketing communications methods to a teacher or business person. A written witness statement must also be provided. Task 3 We have clarified the structure of the assessment guidelines. Negotiation with others is now a separate point in the guidelines. This reflects the fact that candidates must do both the negotiation and the action plan monitoring tasks. Task 4 The requirements have been streamlined to make it explicit that the candidate must submit a formal report to assess their communication skills. We have emphasised that the option to evaluate internal communications is only available to candidates who have worked as part of a group. There are no changes to the externally assessed components, the specimen papers or the mark schemes for this syllabus. PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THE RELEVANT PAGES TO ALL TEACHING STAFF CONCERNED 14

Global Perspectives Global Perspectives Global Perspectives, Syllabus 0457 Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives, Syllabus 8987 From June 2012 Following the review of the pilot syllabus incorporating valuable feedback from schools, teachers, examiners and moderators, we have published a revised syllabus for first examination in June and November 2012. The aims of the syllabus remain the same: learners study a range of global issues from a variety of perspectives personal, local/national and global. The assessment continues to be based on skills rather than content, with learners developing and applying a range of skills. The syllabus aims and assessment objectives have been reviewed and clarified. The list of topics has been increased and some have been broadened. Two components have new names: 'Individual Research' (instead of Portfolio) and 'Group Project' (instead of Project). For the Individual Research component, two reports are submitted. The weighting of each component has been revised. The new topics have exemplar questions that teachers may wish to use as an initial focus for investigation. Revised mark schemes are in the syllabus, together with guidance on the role of the teacher. A revised specimen paper is available on our website: www.cie.org.uk. From June 2012 Following the successful pilot of both Global Perspectives and Cambridge Pre-U Global Perspectives and Independent Research, we have developed a new qualification: Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives.
