2 Vietnam - AIT partnership AIT and Vietnam have enjoyed a longstanding and mutually beneficial partnership. Since the 1960s, AIT has provided scholarships to Vietnamese students to study at AIT. From 1973 onwards, AIT has representatives from Vietnam as members of its Board of Trustees. To date, AIT has produced 3,278 Vietnamese alumni from degree programs and more than 15,000 participants have benefitted from its shortterm training courses provided by AIT Center in Vietnam (AITCV). Among AIT s many successful alumni is H.E. Dr. Nguyen Quan, who is the current Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, Vietnam. AIT was awarded the 2006 Friendship Order by Vietnam in the area of international relations that contributed to human resource training for the country and to the development of friendly relations between Vietnam and other countries. The Asian Institute of Technology Center in Vietnam (AITCV) was established in 1993 under an agreement between the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training and AIT with the support H.E. Mr. Ngo Duc Thang, Ambassador of Vietnam to Thailand. from the Governments of Belgium and Finland. In the initial stage, AITCV office was established in Hanoi. In the same year, AIT was also associated with in the Swiss-AIT-Vietnam (SAV) Management Development Program, based in Ho Chi Minh City. The SAV Program was supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It was aimed at strengthening business administration education at selected partner universities, and to upgrade knowledge and expertise of business executives in Vietnam. 2

3 AITCV offers: Two-stage Master s, Doctoral Programs One-stage Master s programs in Vietnam; Master of Administration Program for Executives; Professional Masters Programs International Master s in Advanced Studies Short-term training courses specialized in many fields, including Management and Business, Environment and Development, Language and Training, Advanced Technologies. Customized training courses Seminars Consultancy services Currently, AITVN main offices are located in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. 1. 4 Vietnamese students form the second largest population in AIT. There are currently 51 Vietnamese students enrolled at AIT campus in Thailand. 5 4. AIT Alumni in Vietnam: 3,278 3,278 Vietnamese alumni have graduated from AIT. Many of them are in senior positions in both the public and the private sector. One of many successful alumni from Vietnam is H.E. Dr. Nguyen Quan (M.Eng. 1989) who is now the Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, Vietnam. H.E.
