Jeff Futrell The Adult Agriculture Program provides specialized training and educational update meetings for county farmers. It is generally a non-degree program but has offered some certification and college credit in areas such as welding & computers in the past. It is funded through a grant from KCTCS to the local school board and covers both Marshall and Livingston counties.
: William York The purpose of the Auto Collision program is for students to learn how to repair and prep an automobile for paint. This program is a stepping stone for real world application, and a great deal of emphasis is placed on work ethic and responsibility that goes with it. Auto Mechanics - Mike Dotson Automotive Mechanics gives students the opportunity to study hands-on project-based assignments with real world applications. Students are guided through ASE standards based lessons and tested at the end of each section. Students can earn industry certifications in many areas allowing them to enter the work force from high school as certified mechanics in specific areas within the industry. Beginning with small engines and progressing through fuel systems, suspension, electronics, diagnostics, brakes and many other areas of certification.
: Shane Darnall Carpentry students work to ear the NCCER certification and complete independent and group projects. Projects are built to give the students practical experience and serve to teach safety, OSHA compliance, and real world job training skills. Each year the advanced students build a 1200 sq ft house, 3BR 2Bath and sell it to the community. Students also assist the district with multiple projects to gain on the job training skills and construction techniques. Health Careers
Tamara Hodges Jessica Vasseur Craig Morris COURSES: Medical Terminology Emergency Procedures Health Career I Health Career II Health Career III Biomedical Sciences Health Careers is located at the Marshall County Technical Center. This program is designed to help students learn more about the various health careers and their skills and to instruct students on the correct pathway toward their education in a particular health career. This program started in 1992 under the name of Health Services I and in 1993 started the Health Services II program. Health Careers I is a class that is intended for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This class helps students learn the organization of various health careers, legal responsibilities, communication skills, pharmacy skills, job seeking skills, blood borne pathogens, asepsis techniques, medical abbreviations, medical terminology, and learn various health careers and their skills. A lab area is set up for students to practice these skills in the classroom. Many health professionals instruct students on their job skills and college preparations needed. Also, these students are CPR and First Aid Certified. After students have successfully completed and passed Health Careers I with at least a C average, the students can enroll in Health Careers II their senior year. This is a block class for the entire year. Students learn patient care for the first nine weeks and continue classroom work three days a week. These students begin their rotation in Long Term Care at Marshall County Hospital where they have hands-on care with patients after successfully completing skills in the classroom laboratory area. After the first month of clinicals in Long Term Care, they are then rotated on a two week basis through each of the health care areas such as Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Emergency Room Ambulance Service, Laboratory, Surgery, Radiology, Nursing, Intensive Care Unit, (Veterinarian) Dr. Johnson, and (Optometry) Dr. Ellis and Dr. W. Gibson, (Dentists) Dr. Sells and Dr. Cassity, (Chiropractor) Dr. Pittman, Family Medical Center at Draffenville, Marshall County Hospital Home Health, and Marshall County Health Department. Students are required to take the Hepatitis series of shots or sign a waiver. Students are also required to obtain malpractice health insurance at the cost of the student for one year. Students are also instructed in Anatomy and Physiology as it relates to the Health Careers. These students can, and do, have the option whether they would like to become Certified Nursing Assistants in the spring. Health Careers III is a co-op program for seniors who have made a C in Health Careers II the 1st semester. The students choose their medical site by December 1st of their senior school year. The students will either choose a paid or a non-paid site. If non-paid, students can apply hours toward volunteer work.
Marshall County Technical Center (Health Careers Curriculum) has articulated with West Kentucky Vocational School in Medical Terminology. We have taken part in the integration process such as Team Teaching with the Health Class at Marshall County High School, and the TMH Class at Marshall County Vocational School in which students teach others their skills they have learned in the classroom and out in the field. They also help with teaching at Benton Elementary School and Marshall County Exceptional School. HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) Club is an integral part in Health Careers classroom. This allows students to use their leadership skills and take part in community activities related to Health Careers. The medical communities in Marshall County has given this club and our Health Careers classes positive public relations, and are very interested in our high school students education. Welding : Steve Freeman Each year students work with Mr. Freeman to earn an industry certifications for stick, horizontal, vertical, overhead, TIG, MIG, SMAW. With these certifications students can enter the workforce, or pursue advanced degrees in welding post secondary. Students work in school based projects, repair and fabricate projects for the school system and the public, and practice for their welding certification test at the end of the school year for each skill.
