5 Colorado Sheet Metal Workers Training Institute Continuing Education/Upgrade Classes COURSE TITLE: International Building Code/Fuel gas Code PREREQUISITE: None COURSE DESCRIPTION: An extensive overview of the changes that are currently being implemented by Denver, Larimer, Douglas, Arapahoe and several other municipalities throughout Colorado in regards to the International Mechanical code. Can be used as a preparatory class for the Denver H&V license. LENGTH OF COURSE: 16 HOURS each class will last 4 hours from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. CLASS SIZE: Maximum of 20 FEES: $ for set of books (Fees will be refunded if perfect attendance is attained.) LOCATION: Denver Facility INSTRUCTOR: TBD NOTE: More than one class may be held throughout the year. COURSE TITLE: MECH 4/ IMC/ IFGC Class PREREQUISITE: None COURSE DESCRIPTION: An extensive overview of the changes that are currently being implemented by municipalities throughout Colorado in regards to the International Mechanical code, and the MECH 4 code. LENGTH OF COURSE : 24 hours held one night a week for four hours a night for six weeks. A passing grade in this course is a prerequisite for all other offered service classes. LENGTH OF COURSE: 32 hours and will be 4 classes that are 8 hours long held on Saturdays. COURSE TITLE: SERVICING ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS 1 PREREQUISITE: Must have passed Core Service or Equivalent COURSE DESCRIPTION: This Course covers direct and alternating current, including circuits, switches, capacitors, diagrams and thermostats, furnace controls and valves. LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 hours. Each Session is 4 hours, from 6:00 p.m. to 10 :00 p.m. DATES: Tuesdays Starting September 11, 2013 and completing on May 20, 2014 in Denver. CLASS SIZE: Minimum class size of 5 and a maximum of 20 LOCATION: Denver, Colorado Springs INSTRUCTORS: John Eckler (Denver), Rich Thompson (CS) NOTE: This class is offered to apprentices as an elective so Class size is limited. Test will be taken after review of standards. LENGTH OF COURSE: This course requires a 4 hour preparatory review which will be held on a weeknight as well as a 4 hour review on Saturday following with the test following the review. CLASS SIZE: To be determined by response. FEES: If UNIVERSAL certification is received on first EXAM there is no fee, however if Universal is not achieved $25.00 will be required for each subsequent exam. It prepares students to successfully take the TABB written and practical exam for TABB certification LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 hours. Each Session is 4 hours from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. DATES: Thursdays 9/12/2013 thru 5/20/2014 in Denver and in Colorado Springs. CLASS SIZE: Class size is limited. Entry is based on first sign in first to receive class. LOCATION: Denver, Colorado Springs INSTRUCTORS: TBD (D), Eric Russell (CS) COURSE TITLE: BASIC and ADVANCED AUTOCAD and Detailing PREQUISITE: Basic understanding of Microsoft s Windows operating systems. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class will instruct the student on basic AUTOCAD skills and drawing set-up. The second semester class focuses on actual Sheet Metal Industry practices. LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 Hours/ Each Session is 4 hours from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. DATES: Thursdays 9/12/2013 thru 5/22/2014 in Denver and Tuesdays 9/10/2013 thru 5/20/2014 in Colorado Springs. The Student will learn how to draw 3d objects in AUTOCAD. These objects will be generated by both AUTOCAD and or by a third party duct drawing program. LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 Hours/ Each Session is 4 hours from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. DATES: Tuesdays 9/10/2013 thru 5/20/2014 in Denver and In Colorado Springs. COURSE TITLE: ADVANCED SHEET METAL CAD/CAM PREREQUISITE: Basic 3d AUTOCAD and Detailing COURSE DESCRIPTION: This Class Focuses on the process of building a sheet metal shop drawing using a 3rd party software that can be downloaded directly to the manufacturing equipment. The student will also learn how to manipulate the database to produce a bill of materials and job reports. So there is potential for the student to become certified in several different facets of the welding industry. This class will be flexible and will allow the student to gain experience in the welding area of their choice. Please indicate your welding experience on the Continuing Education Form (Green Sheet) and the type of welding that you are interested in. LENGTH OF COURSE: 60 hours each semester. Classes will be 4 hour sessions from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. DATES: First Semester begins Tuesday September 11, 2013 thru January 14, Second Semester starts Thursday January 21, 2014 thru May 20, 2014 CLASS SIZE: 18 max LOCATION: Denver INSTRUCTOR: Chase Bergeron NOTE: Welding personnel protective equipment (Hood, leathers, gloves and safety glasses) must be supplied by student. All other supplies furnished by JATC. COURSE TITLE: WELDING (COLORADO SPRINGS) PREREQUISITE: None COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Colorado Springs school is a certified welding lab. So there is potential for the student to become certified in several different facets of the welding industry. So there is potential for the student to become certified in several different facets of the welding industry. This class will be flexible and will allow the student to gain experience in the welding area of their choice. Please indicate your welding experience on the Continuing Education Form (Green Sheet) and the type of welding that you are interested in.. COURSE TITLE: RESIDENTIAL SHEET METAL PREREQUISITE: None COURSE DESCRIPTION: This Course will encompass all facets of the residential sheet metal industry from new construction installer, residential retrofit, and Residential HVAC service. COURSE LENGTH: 128 Hours/ Each Session is 4 hours from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. DATES: Starting Wednesday 9/11/2013 thru 5/14/2014 in Denver, and starting Thursday 9/12/2013 thru 5/15/2014 in Colorado Springs. Also covered in this curriculum are specialized layout, fabrication and field installation techniques specific to the Architectural industry. The student will also learn about types of materials and tools used in this industry. LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 hours, Each session is 4 hours, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Also included in this curriculum the student will learn about the different types of systems, materials and equipment found in industrial work and the special procedures used to layout, fabricate and install these systems. LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 hours. Each session is 4 hours, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. DATES: Tuesdays 9/10/2013 thru 5/20/2014 in Denver and Thursdays 9/12/2013 thru 5/22/2014 in Colorado Springs. As well as different cutting processes. The students will also get to work with common materials used in real world applications. Also included in this curriculum the student will learn about the different types of systems found in industrial work and the special procedures used to layout, fabricate and install these systems. LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 hours. Each session is 4 hours, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. DATES: Tuesdays 9/10/2013 thru 5/7/2014 in Denver, and Wednesdays 9/11/2013 thru 5/21/2014 in Colorado Springs. CLASS SIZE: limited to 20 students, so it is first signed in first given. LOCATION: Denver, Colorado springs. INSTRUCTORS: Kevin Mostacciuolo & Chase Bergeron (Denver), Mike Mason (Colorado Springs) COURSE TITLE: FOREMAN TRAINING COURSE DESCRIPTION: Communication skills, plans and specs, take off, cut sheets and technical paperwork are reviewed. 16 To enroll in classes you must contact (via or phone) the Local area apprenticeship program no later than August 30,2013 to be eligible for participation in classes COURSE TITLE: FIRE LIFE SAFETY LEVEL 1 PREQUISITE: None COURSE DESCRIPTION: This emerging certification from the ITI is to provide the consideration for installation, inspection and maintaining fire dampers, smoke dampers and combination dampers in new and existing HVAC Systems. The course will cover the manufacture requirements, the relevant building codes and prepare the individual for the certification test. Possible National Code Enforcement in coming years that only certified individuals install, inspect and maintain the dampers in the HVAC System. INSTRUCTOR: Joshua Uncapher LOCATION: Denver COURSE TITLE: FIRE LIFE SAFETY LEVEL 2 PREQUISITES: Fire Life Safety 1 or TAB background preferred. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This emerging certification from the ITI is to provide the knowledge for the inspections, service and follow up inspections of the mechanical smoke control systems. There are two main categories of mechanical smoke management systems that are either pressurized or exhausted. This course will cover the features and components of both systems, smoke control barriers and the relationships of inhibiting or controlling the smoke management during a fire event. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is part of the ITI certification program for technicians relating to IAQ in buildings. IAQ in a building is important because the condition of the air affects comfort, health, productivity and well being of people in the building. If the condition of the air is unacceptable complaints and even law suits can result. This course will overview the knowledge and skills that are needed to assist customers in improving and maintaining IAQ in their buildings. Certification Test offered at the end of the course for those who want to apply. LENGTH OF COURSE: 32 hours CLASS SIZE: To be determined by response. INSTRUCTOR: Joshua Uncapher LOCATION: Denver COURSE TITLE: HVAC ENERGY AUDIT & TOTAL BUILDING AUDIT PREQUISITES: TAB background preferred. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This emerging certification from the ITI is to provide the knowledge base for auditing HVAC and building systems. Energy use has became a major concern for individuals, business and governments. Every building uses energy to power HVAC systems, lighting and electrical equipment, this course will overview the knowledge and skills needed to enter and work in the green sector efficiently. Certification Test offered at the end of the course for those who want to apply. LENGTH OF COURSE: 128 Hours.
