4 Office & Technology Support Describe the office support your site will provide to the VISTA. Include: office space and location, computer and phone access, and an anticipated budget for job-related transportation and travel. We recommend the VISTA have access to a webcam and microphone. Work with Partner Organization How will the VISTA work with partner organization(s) be structured? How much time will the VISTA spend off site? Who will oversee the VISTA there? What kind of office space and support is available? Non-cash housing and meal support Non-cash Housing and meal support are optional but encouraged. Describe any such benefits the host site will offer. Accommodating VISTAs with Disabilities Discuss any factors relevant to the success of disabled VISTAs at your project site, including availability of transportation and housing and accessibility of facilities. Please indicate the name, title, and department of the person on campus who can answer questions about ADA compliance. Preferred VISTA Skills & Experience The following required skills and experience will be listed in CT Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA job postings. Please review these and add other skills and experience you seek in your VISTA. - Passion for AmeriCorps*VISTA mission of fighting poverty and strengthening communities - Bachelor s degree from four-year institution - U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident - Strong interest & experience in community service - Strong interest & experience in college campus service programs and working with students - Proven leadership and project management skills - Proven networking, communication, public speaking and organizational skills Additional skills and experience (if none, please enter, none ): Professional Development & Training In addition to the OSOT plan (below), are your host site or community partner(s) planning to offer other, site-specific or skill-specific training to the VISTA? (For example, VISTA may attend the partner s regular volunteer training or an issue-specific conference later in the term.) On-site Orientation and Training Plan (OSOT) You are required to submit an On-site Orientation and Training Plan (OSOT), but you do not need to use the table below. You may submit an alternative OSOT document along with your proposal. Regardless of what format you use, your OSOT must include: CT Campus Compact VISTA Host Site Application 4
5 2 weeks of activities with learning outcomes each week 1 meeting/tour with partner representative Tour of host site and introduction to key staff Review of host site application and VAD A takeaway is a resource or specific piece of information. Examples include a strategic plan, staff meeting calendar, or address Daily Activities Learning outcomes Week 1 Week 2 VISTA Assignment Description (VAD) Please complete a VISTA Assignment Description (VAD) for each VISTA project your site is applying for, using the VISTA Assignment Description template provided by CTCC ( C VISTA Assignment Description.docx ). You will need to include the completed VAD in this Application form. Additionally, you are welcome to provide a VAD narrative to supplement the VAD template, but it is not required and only suggested if further explanation is needed. Campus or Community Partner Letter of Support As part of your host site application, please include letter(s) of support from the community (or campus) partner organization(s). The letter should briefly explain the organization s mission and client population and how its work relates to the VISTA mission of fighting poverty. The letter should also briefly discuss how the VISTA project and partnership will help build the organization s capacity to alleviate poverty. President Letter of Support Submit a letter, signed by the campus president either of the host site (if the host site is a campus) or of the campus partner (if the host site is a community based organized), highlighting his/her awareness and support of this VISTA application and the goals of the VISTA project on the host site CT Campus Compact VISTA Host Site Application 5
6 Project and Community Advisory Board All applicants must submit a list, potentially including faculty, staff, student, community partners and other individuals, involved in the design and supporting the VISTA Project. A member of the low-income community must be on the board! The members on this Board have agreed to meet with the VISTA member at least twice during their service year and should be available to the VISTA throughout the year The VISTA member should be able to reach out and meet with these individuals throughout their service; for support, project guidance, project updates, etc Name Title and Organization Role in project proposal and/or VISTA member support Indicate if the board member represents the low-income community being served with an asterisk (*) How will your Project and Community Advisory Board be utilized throughout the year? Project Budget Please complete a VISTA Project Budget using the Budget Template Provided by CTCC ( CTCC VISTA Host Site Budget Proposal.xlsx ). You will need to include the completed budget in the Application form. Additionally, you are welcome to provide a budget narrative to supplement this budget proposal, but it is not required and only suggested if further explanation is needed beyond the budget CT Campus Compact VISTA Host Site Application 6
7 VISTA Host Site Applicant Agreement Form All CT Campus Compact VISTA Host Sites must understand and agree to the following: VISTA slot availability is dependent on federal funding, AND that CT Campus Compact reserves the right to place VISTAs with host sites that best meet project qualifications. The VISTA is a full-time volunteer service member with at least a Bachelor s degree and should be treated as a colleague. Most VISTAs are beginning their professional careers and will require a certain level of mentoring. VISTA supervisors are expected to attend CT Campus Compact Supervisor training on July 8 at the United Way in New Haven. The site supervisor must oversee VISTAs service by: 1) orientating the VISTA to the project site, 2) meeting regularly with the VISTA, 3) completing periodic evaluations of VISTA performance, 4) monitoring VISTA progress toward project goals, 5) reviewing VISTA timesheets and quarterly reports, and 6) ensuring VISTA attendance at required CT Campus Compact and AmeriCorps events. Site supervisors should advocate for the VISTA on campus, define his or her supervising style, set clear expectations and priorities for the VISTA, and be accessible to provide guidance and support. The site supervisor or other site staff will facilitate the VISTA's introduction to and work with the community partner. The VISTA will spend time regularly at community partner site and have a designated staff contact there. The host site must provide reasonable accommodations to qualified VISTAs with disabilities. The host site should provide: adequate office space and logistical support (including phone, , and supplies), a small budget for work-related travel, work time allocation for CT Campus Compact and AmeriCorps events (no more than 10% of VISTA time). Non cash housing and meal support are optional benefits, and such support should not be considered additional income for the VISTA. The VISTA should be identified in organizational directories, websites, publications, and communications as a CT Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA member. If selected to host a VISTA, we will remit payment of the CT Campus Compact VISTA Host Site administrative fee by the designated date. We, the undersigned, agree to uphold expectations of a CT Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA Host Site as outlined in this application. We are aware that expectations for the host site, supervisor, and community partners are meant to ensure the success and sustainability of the VISTA s work. 8 Checklist and Submission Information Please Ensure your application includes the following: Cover Page Proposal Narrative VISTA Member Support Plan & Orientation Plan VISTA Assignment Description (VAD) Community/Campus Partner Letter of Support President Letter of Support Project and Community Advisory Board Project Budget VISTA Host Site Applicant Agreement Form The host site application and additional materials should be submitted via to: Kaytee Stewart CT Campus Compact Program Coordinator Submission Guidelines: Applications must be received by 5:00pm on stated deadline o (January 16 th for returning sites/projects, January 23 rd for new sites/projects) All materials should be compiled into one PDF file (including letters of support, VAD & budget) A second copy of the VISTA Assignment Description (VAD) should be sent as a Word file A second copy of the budget should be sent as an Excel file The application is the same for new and returning sites; the only specific difference is the incorporation of CTCC s new focus on education in all of the projects. New sites/projects MUST have a project that focuses primarily on education; returning projects must have the majority of the VISTA project focus on education and a transition plan to incorporate education as the primary focus by the program year.
