The route starts along the side of the Mäntymäki Square (parking lot) crossing over Helsinginkatu (Helsinki Street) at traffic lights. From behind The National Opera house, it proceeds down to the pedestrian walkway by Töölönlahti Bay surrounded by Hesperia Park and Hakasalmi Park. From the walkway by the bay the route goes up to the front side of Finlandia House and to Mannerheimintie (Mannerheim Street). The route follows Mannerheimintie to the left towards midtown. Right next to Finlandia house is Hakasalmi Mansion, one of the Helsinki City exhibition facilities. On the opposite side of the street, facing the Hakasalmi Mansion, is The National Museum. After crossing over Karamzininkatu (Karamzin Street) the route follows downhill. At the downhill, man is able to make observations of the old marks left by the sea in the run of past 2000 years. On the left are old railway warehouses, that currently accommodate flea markets, developmental aid stores etc. The Parliament House is on the opposite side of the street. The route goes uphill back to Mannerheimintie, where the statue of Finland s Field Marshal Mannerheim is standing in the front the Museum of Modern Art. The yellow brick building on the background, is the main post office. The glass building is Sanomatalo, the headquarter of several newspapers. Following Mannerheimintie the route passes business areas, Old Student House and the Statue of the Three Smiths eventually meeting Erottaja Street. Along Erottaja Street to Iso Robertinkatu (Iso Robertin Street) which has been turned into a street for pedestrians only. At the end of this street, the route goes up the stairs to the old brick tower surrounded by the Park of Sinebrychoff and ahead down the stairs to Telakkakatu (Telakka Street) where it meets Mallaskatu (Mallas Street). The route crosses over Telakkakatu at the traffic lights and follows the walk way by the sea along Telakkakatu past the Masa Yards Docks and over Munkkisaarenkatu, Hernesaarenkatu and Merisatamanranta (Munkkisaaren Street, Hernesaaren Street, Merisataman Street). It leads to the walkway on the rsinin kallio (rsinin cliffs) and goes along the walk way to the Meritori Market Square. Further on the pedestrian walkway by Ehrenströmintie (Ehrenströmin Street) ( ) and Laivasillankatu (Laivasillan Street), the route passes The Olympia Ship Terminal and Makasiini Ship Terminal and leads to The Old Market Hall and The Market Square. ( ) ALRNATIVE RO: On Ehrenströmintie (Ehrenströmin Street) the route turns to Itäinen Puistotie (Itäinen Puisto Street) immediately after passing Cafe rsula. Several foreign embassies are located on Itäinen Puistotie. As an optional addition, one can turn to half-circle shaped Kalliolinnantie (Kallionlinnan Street) and visit the Museum of Field Marshall Mannerheim. Itäinen puistotie ends at the Square of Saint Henrik, where the catholic church of Saint Henrik is located. From here the route takes a slight right to Laivasillankatu (Laivasillan Street) to the front of the Olympia Ship Terminal and back to the original route past Makasiini Ship Terminal and Old Market Hall to the Market Square. From the market square, the route goes past Statue of Havis Amanda to Esplanadi Park Street, which follows to Mikonkatu (Mikon Street) and along Mikonkatu to Railway Station Square. The route passes the Statue of Aleksis Kivi and The National Theatre and continues to the Kaisaniemi Park. In the Park the route follows the side of the rail road on Kaisaniementie (Kaisaniemen Street) passing the Restaurant Kaisaniemi and following the Linnunlaulu walkway to the bridge crossing over the railroad. After the bridge, the route takes a left turn and follows the shoreline of Töölönlahti Bay to the Finlandia House and further along the shore line to the National Opera. At the traffic light the route crosses Helsinginkatu (Helsingin Street) and continues along the side of the Mäntymäki Square and parking lot to the Töölönlahti Outdoor Center on Mäntymäentie. The route follows the kanal to Selkamerenkatu (Selkameri Street) and by taking the right turn, takes you to Itämeri market place. From the market place the under crossing on the Itämeren Sola Street leads to the other side of the Porkkala Street. On the right side of the Itämeren Sola street are several cemeteries, including military grave yards (Suomen Kaarti and Jääkärit) as well as Orthodox and Islamic grave yards. The route leads to Lapinlahdentie (Lapinlahti Street) and ahead to the walkway that follows the shoreline of Lapinlahti bay. The walkway follows the stone and metal fence of the Hietaniemi Cemetery all the way to Hiekkarannantie (Hiekkarannan Street) at the other end of the cemetery. ( ) ( ) ALRNATIVE RO: This part of the route can also be followed inside the fence of the cemetery and thus it leads up to the Memorial Military Cross and to the grave stone of field marshal Mannerheim and eventually through the Memorial Military grave yard to the main gate and Hiekkarannatie. The Hietaranta Beach is on the left side as the route follows Hiekkarannatie and from the walkway on the opposite side of the Tennis Arena to Merikannontie (Merikannon Street). The route follows Merikannontie to Toivo Kuula Park, where right by Restaurant Mestaritalli, it turns to a walkway that follows the shoreline to the Rowing Stadium. The route crosses over Merikannontie at the corner of Kesäkatu (Kesä street) (right before the red café cabin and wooden bridge by the Sea Kayaker s Club) and to Sibelius Park and the Sibelius Monument. The walkway by the monument on the side of the sea leads to Rajasaarentie (Rajasaaren Street), which takes you to and over Mechelininkatu (Mechelinin Street) at the traffic light. Humalistonkatu (Humaliston street) starts at the Mechelininkatu and route heads towards the the Stadium tower over Mannerheimintie to Sallinkatu (Sallin Street) and ahead to rheilukatu (rheilu Street). The Olympic Stadium and soccer fields are straight ahead and Soccer Arena on the left. The route goes left on rheilukatu passing The Soccer Arena to Nordenskoldinkatu (Nordenskoldin Street) and through the parking lot of the Ice Rink to Pohjoinen Stadiontie (Pohjoinen Stadion Street). Follow past the hostel and the Museum of Sport to the front side of the Stadium. The route ends at the Töölönlahti Outdoor Center. 7 3 R EI T T E 20 km, duration of walk approximately 4 hours The route starts from Mantymaentie (Mantymaen Street) by crossing over Helsinginkatu (Helsinki Street) to the walkway by the Töölönlahti Bay. The route follows the walkway to the left to Linnunlauluntie (Linnunlaulun Street) and further to the bridge over the railroad. After crossing the bridge, the route meets Eläintarhantie (Eläintarhan Street) and on the opposite side of the street, is The Helsinki City Theatre, on the right side of the road is Tokoinranta bay area. Following Eläintarhantie, the route meets Siltaraarenkatu (Siltasaaren Street) which is to be crossed at the traffic lights. The route goes through the Hakaniemi Market Square and to the Statue Of World peace given by the City of Moscow. From the statue by Hakanimenranta walkway the route follows further under the Pohjoisranta highway and up to the bridge and over to the Pohjoisranta walkway. Following the walkway, the route leads to a pedestrian crossing bridge on Kanavaranta (Kanava shoreline Street) at Katajanokka district. After crossing the bridge, the route turns left and it follows the coast line on Laivastokatu (Laivasto Street) past the Merikasarmi Dock and further to the walk way on Katajanokan ranta (Katajanokka shoreline Street). The Katajanokka Casino is on the left as well as the ice breaker ships and on the right side are the Foreign Ministry buildings. Following the coastline further along the The Katajanokka Ship Terminal and the Kanava Ship Terminal, the route leads to the Market Square. From the Market Square, the route follows Laivasillakatu (Laivasillan Street) and Ehrenstominkatu (Ehrenstromin Street) along the coast line passing The Market Hall, The Makasiini Ship Terminal and The Olympia Ship Terminal and ending up at the Meri Market Square. From the square, the route keeps following the coast line to rsinin Kallio (rsinin Cliffs) and further along the walkway over the Merisatamanranta (Merisataman Street) and past the Hernesaarenkatu and Munkkisaarenkatu (Hernesaaren Street and Munkkisaaren Street) all the way to the Masa Yards Dry dock. The route continues on Telakkakatu (Telakka Street) along the walkway by the Hietalahti Bay shore line. Hietalahti Market Hall and the Hietalahti Flea Market are on the square on the right side. Following Hietalahdenranta Street on the left side on the pedestrian walkway, the route meets Laivapojankatu (Laivapojan Street) where the beautiful Ruoholahti canal ends. From The Humallahti Park the route follows the walkway over Seurasaarentie (Seurasaaren Street) to the walk/bike path that leads to The Meilahti Sport Fields. From the bike/walk path the route goes up to the crossroads of Paciuksenkatu and Tukholmankatu (Paciuksen Street and Tukholman Street), where it starts to follow Tukholmankatu and proceeds over Topeliuksenkatu (Topeliuksen Street) to Töölöntulli. Here, the route crosses Mannerheimintie (Mannerheimin Street) over to Lääkärinkatu (Lääkärin Street) and along to the walk way by The Laakso Horse Riding field. After crossing the Laakso Field and Nordensköldinkatu (Nordensköldin Street) the route leads to Pohjoinen Stadiontie (Pohjoinen Stadion Street) and along this towards the Hostel at The Olympic Stadium. The route passes the hostel and The Museum of Sports to Paavo Nurmen katu (Paavo Nurmen Street) and it ends at the Töölönlahti Outdoor Center on Mäntymäentie. (Mäntymäen Street).
