Light Lunch and Danish Pastries will be served in the bus to save time during transportation. 4

Day 2: Tuesday, August (continued) 14:00 17:00 - Visit to Energy Fyn Sanderumvej Odense SV Tommy Lykkegaard tl@energifyn.dk Energy Fyn is a leading regional distribution company that now specializes in power balancing using sophisticated electric boilers to absorb surpluses of wind power and diesel generation to enable large integration of wind power. We will see Energi Fyn s own plants that combine emergency and balancing power at the Odense University Hospital, and visit the CHP installation at Alfred Pedersen & Son Aps, Bellinge, a leading tomato producer. Here CO2 emission from the exhaust is injected into the green houses to improve growth. 18:00 - Arrival Hotel Koldingfjord Fjordvej Kolding, Jutland Tel:

Day 3: Wednesday, August Depart Hotel at 08:45 09:00-09:45 - Meeting with Danish District Heating Association Merkurvej 7, 6000 Kolding, Jutland John Tang Denmark is a world leader in district heating. Danish District Heating Association is a member organization representing 400 district heating companies. These companies account for 98% of the district heating sold in Denmark. The members span from small cooperatively owned companies, supplying a few hundred households, to large municipal utilities, serving several hundred thousand consumers. In Denmark, 1.5 million households are connected to collective district heating networks. Some 60% of the Danish population is thus kept warm by district heating. District heating provides Denmark with many economic advantages, among other things by utilizing energy that would otherwise be wasted. District heating uses many types of fuel and these are often combined within individual district heating networks. Many of the fuels replace imports, improving the security of supply contributing to national and local economies. About 75% of Denmark s district heating is produced in combined heat and power, CHP, plants that generate both heat and electricity simultaneously. This allows more than 90% of the fuel energy to be utilized, in comparison with 40% utilization if electricity alone is produced. In comparison with individual gas- and oil-fired boilers, district heating halves energy consumption. 40% of all district heating is generated without any CO2 emission at all, thanks in part to the use of biofuels. Finally Danish district heating technology is an important export sector including consultancy, planning, insulated pipes for distribution of heat, energy conversion technology for solid and liquid biomass, natural gas and incineration of garbage. Equipment for combined heat and power is available from the smallest KW-size units to many hundred MW plants. New technologies include district heating from solar and wind. 6

Day 3: Wednesday, August (continued) 09:45 10:30 - Presentation in the hotel by Averhoff Energi Anlaeg A/S, The meeting takes place at Danish District Heating Association Director Bjarne Averhoff Averhoff Energi Anlaeg is a leading consulting turnkey contractor who assists Danish district heating companies and utilities with the replacement and optimisation of their plants. 7

Day 3: Wednesday, August (continued) 10:45 12:30 - Visit to Energinet, Danish Grid Administrator Tonne Kjærsvej 65 DK-7000 Fredericia Tel: Kim Behnke, Head of Section kbe@energinet.dk Energinet.dk is Denmark s grid administrator and is responsible for the reliable operation of the main electricity and gas transmission systems in Denmark and for ensuring sufficient supply of electricity and gas to cover consumer demand. Energinet.dk ensures equal access to Denmark s grid to all the country s diverse power producers. Energinet.dk has a mandate to purchase all Danish wind power and balances its electricity portfolio by purchasing and selling electricity from neighbouring countries. This innovative company is owned by the state of Denmark and is the world s leading smart grid operator and has become one of Europe s most advanced and reliable grid operators. 8

Day 3: Wednesday, August (continued) 12:30 13:30 - Light Lunch and Danish Pastries will be served in the bus to save time during transportation 13:45 14:45 Visit to Grindsted El- og Varmevaerk Tårnvej Grindsted Tel: Bent Overgaard, Operational manager This sophisticated CHP plant combines its natural gas operation with wind production and is able to provide electricity, reduce carbon emissions and fuel expenditures, and store wind power for heating purposes during times of favourable wind conditions. This wind/heat and power facility (WHP) is developing a standard for this unique Danish innovation to provide a practical and affordable solution to store wind power and save natural gas. 9

Day 3: Wednesday, August (continued) 15:45 17:00 - Braedstrup Fjernvarme a.m.b.a. Fjernvarmevej Braedstrup Tel: post@braedstrup-fjernvarme.dk Per Kristensen, Head of Operation This visit will illustrate how a small town district heating operates a CHP plant that relies on natural gas NG and a large solar heating system (8,000 m2). 17:30 (Silkeborg) - 18:30 (Skive) Presentation in the bus on smart grid management by Amplex is a leading provider of telemanagement solutions for the utilities sector. Amplex is a privately held company, founded in Denmark in 2001 and employing 900 people worldwide. With their energy saving solutions, they help minimize costs and reduce CO 2 emissions. Amplex modular end-to-end solutions encompass all the necessary software and hardware, including consulting, training, installation and integration services. Noenne Holm Carlsen, nhc@amplex.dk 19:00 - Arrival at Hotel Pinenhus Pinenhus Pinen 3, Glyngøre DK-7870 Roslev Tel:

Day 4: Thursday, August :30 Departure from the Hotel 09:00 11:00 Visits: Morsoe Bioenergi and Soender Herred Kraftvarmevaerk a.m.b.a. Naessundvej 234, 7970 Redsted Mors Key contacts: Anders Bovbjerg, Chairman of Board Per Bisgaard, Head of Operation Naessundvej 327, 7960 Karby Mr. Karlo Andersen, Head of Operation Welcome by Mayor Egon Plejdrup Morsoe Bioenergi is one of Denmark s largest farmer-owned community biogas facilities and it was inaugurated in the summer of Seventy farmers supply daily over 300 tonnes of manure that is bio-digested in a 7,000 cubic meters plant to generate biogas for electricity and heat. The heat is delivered to the Soender Herred natural gas community-owned CHP plant through a 5 km pipeline to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to lower fuel costs. 11

Day 4: Thursday, August (continued) 11:30 13:00 Visit at Thy-Mors Energi Loevevej 5, 7700 Thisted Tel: Key contacts: Jens Soegaard, Managing Director Peter Meldgaard, Technical Director The visit of Thy-Mors Energi will illustrate how a local power utility serving the electricity needs of 75,000 people deals with a generation mix composed of 92% wind power, biogas, and CHP and also how could such a facility operate in Ontario. Thy-Mors Energi is host to a light lunch 13:15-14:45 - Thisted Varmeforsyning a.m.b.a. Ringvej Thisted Tel: , Joergen Skaarup, Operational Manager The visit to Thisted Varmeforsyning will enable to personally meet administrators of a district heating plant powered with 100% renewable energy district heating, geothermal, straw, wood waste, incineration to understand Danish emission standards, emission filtration, and the potential of such installations in Ontario. 12

Day 4: Thursday, August (continued) 15:00 16:00 - Dragsbaek Maltfabrik 42, Simons Bakke 7700 Thisted Claes Fuglsang, director This plant originally used to burn oil, then switched to coal, and now relies on natural gas CHP (three 3 MWe units and two heat storage tanks of 500 cubic meters each). The electricity generated by the plant is sold to the grid and the heat is used to process malt for brewing beer thereby providing a practical high efficiency industrial solution that integrates well with the electricity grid of the region which relies almost completely on renewable energy. In addition, during summer periods when the city district heating system has a surplus of heat the plant can eliminate the use of natural gas. 13
