2 Transfer Scholarship Information Scholarship assistance for transfer graduates is available at many four-year colleges and universities. Over the years, Monroe Community College graduates have received academic scholarships presumably in excess of a million dollars. The awards usually provide for partial tuition assistance, although full tuition scholarships may also be granted. A partial listing of the four-year colleges offering transfer scholarships follows. For additional information regarding these awards and other transfer scholarship options, contact the specific four-year college Financial Aid or Admissions Office. Financial Need: Various merit-based, need-based, and combined merit and needbased scholarships are available at four-year colleges. In most instances, an applicant is required to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is accessible at ed.gov which includes filing dates and other important information. Most colleges and universities utilize FAFSA information to determine additional aid and scholarships you may be eligible for as a transfer student. You have the right to accept or decline financial aid. Deadline Dates Deadline dates for scholarship consideration may vary. Early inquiry and application to the four-year college are recommended. For additional information regarding these awards and other transfer scholarship options, contact the specific four-year college you are interested in attending. 3 Private Scholarship Search Engines & Databases Below is a list of some of the search engines and databases available online for private scholarships and grants. This list is not all inclusive. ww.collegeboard.com Private Scholarship Search Tips It is never too early to begin your scholarship search. Scholarships and grants often require letters of recommendation, transcripts, essays, etc. This may mean getting to know your professors for those letters of recommendations and/ or require you to prepare by writing a few goal-oriented essays in advance. Pay special NYSTAA Scholarship Available! NYSTAA is the New York State Transfer and Articulation Association, a consortium of 600 advisors and others involved in the transfer process at more than 100 colleges and universities within and outside the state. NYSTAA provides students graduating with Associate degrees from member 2-year schools, such as Monroe Community College, and transferring to member 4-year institutions with the opportunity to obtain financial help through the NYSTAA scholarship. If you are seeking financial assistance to complete your education you should apply to as many scholarships and grants as you can without impacting the quality of your applications. 3

4 ALFRED UNIVERSITY Alfred, NY (607) Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Available to students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa and earn an Associate degree from a 2-year institution. ($10,500-$14,000 per year) Presidential Scholarship: Available to students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher. ($10,500-14,000 per year) Dean s Scholarship: Available to students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. ($9,000- $12,000 per year) Jonathan Allen Award for Leadership: Available to students who demonstrate leadership through school, community, religion and/or public service activities and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. ($7,000-$10,000 per year) There is no separate application process for scholarships. Scholarships are renewable for the duration of the student s time at Alfred University as long as they maintain the appropriate GPA. CANISIUS COLLEGE Buffalo, NY (800) Transfer Scholarship: For transfer students possessing a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Awards range from $6,000 to $12,000 based on academic merit (rigor of coursework and grades). Scholarships are renewable for a total of six undergraduate semesters, so long as the student maintains a GPA of 2.0 and full-time status. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship/Alpha Beta Gamma Scholarship: For transfer students with a 3.0 GPA and proof of induction. Students may receive only one of either the Alpha Beta Gamma or the Phi Theta Kappa scholarships. Either of these awards can be received in addition to the Transfer Scholarship. Awards are $2,000 per year based upon merit and are renewable for a total of six undergraduate semesters, so long as the student maintains good academic standing and full-time status CAZENOVIA COLLEGE Cazenovia, NY (800) Presidential Transfer Scholarship: Students with an Associate degree, graduating with honors and planning to live on campus will be awarded $17,000 per year renewable for a second year. Transfer Honors Scholarship: $10,000 for members of Phi Theta Kappa. Associate Degree Scholarship: $7,000 for students graduating with an associate degree who have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA. CLARKSON UNIVERSITY Potsdam, NY (800) Clarkson Merit and/or Scholarship Award: Based on students academic achievement. Phi Theta Kappa/Alpha Beta Gamma Scholarship: Awarded to members of these organizations. Transfer Leadership Award: Based on nomination from your Career Center ($11,000 per year). Transfer Achievement Award: Based on nomination from your Career Center ($9,000 per year). DAEMEN COLLEGE Amherst, NY (800) (716) President s Scholarship: $7,000-8,000 Dean s Scholarship: $5,500 Alumni Grant $3,000-4,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $1,000 Transfer Trustee Scholarship: $9,000-12,000 (by nomination) Daemen offers merit scholarships based on a student s academic and leadership achievement. No separate application required. Awards are renewable for the duration of a student s program based on GPA. D YOUVILLE COLLEGE Buffalo, NY (800) Transfer Achievement Scholarship: Available for students with a 2.75 GPA or higher, in the amounts of $ $5,000. All awards are renewable and not based on financial need. HILBERT COLLEGE Hamburg, NY (716) Transfer Articulation Scholarship: Awarded to students who have completed an Associate degree at MCC. The awards are $1,250 per semester for four consecutive semesters as long as the student attends full-time and maintains good academic standing. HOBART & WILLIAM SMITH COLLEGES Geneva, NY (800) Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship ($20,000): Awarded to members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The student must show proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership, have completed (or be near completion of ) an Associate degree, and have a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.5 or better (from all institutions combined). Finger Lakes Transfer Scholarship ($17,000): Awarded to students who have completed (or be near completion of ) an Associate degree from any of the following designated community colleges in the Finger Lakes region Broome Community College, Cayuga Community College, Corning Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Monroe Community College, Onondaga Community College, Tompkins Cortland Community College. (May not be combined with the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship) Transfer Faculty Scholarship ($17,000): Awarded to select students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance in their previous college studies. Transfer Presidential Leadership Award ($15,000): Awarded to students with strong academic records, demonstrated and sustained leadership and high motivation. Transfer Presidential Service Award ($15,000): Awarded to students with strong academic records and significant involvement in service/ civic engagement activities in their schools and/or communities. 4

5 HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY Hempstead, NY (516) Transfer Scholarship: Awarded up to $15,000 per year. To qualify, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and 24 college credits after high school. If a student has less than 24 credits after high school, the high school information will also be considered when determining scholarship. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Awarded $2,500 per year. To qualify, students must be full-time, have a 3.5 GPA, and have 60 accepted transfer credits upon entry to Hofstra. A letter of recommendation must be submitted to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid by May 1st to qualify. The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is awarded in the fall only and a limited number are awarded annually. HOUGHTON COLLEGE Houghton, NY (800) Academic Scholarship: Transfer students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher may be eligible. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Members of Phi Theta Kappa who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher are guaranteed an academic scholarship. Performance Grants in Music and Visual Art are also IONA COLLEGE New Rochelle, NY (914) Academic Scholarship: All transfer students applying to Iona College are reviewed for an academic scholarship, which is solely based on merit. These scholarships will remain the same for all four years provided the student maintains the agreed upon GPA and files a FAFSA annually by April 15th. Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Beta Gamma Scholarship: Available for members in good standing; with the certificate included with admissions application. ITHACA COLLEGE Ithaca, NY (800) School-Specific Scholarship: School-specific, merit-based scholarships for students with superior outstanding academic performance are offered for each of the College s five schools and its division. The annual amounts of these awards range from $7,000 to $18,000. These scholarships may be renewed annually for the duration of the student s undergraduate study as long as the student maintains full-time enrollment, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Members (except those applying to majors in the School of Music or Department of Theatre) who are considered transfer students at the time of acceptance to Ithaca College and possess a cumulative college GPA of 3.50 or greater will minimally qualify for one of the school specific scholarships. International Student Scholarships are also KEUKA COLLEGE Keuka Park, NY (800)-33-Keuka admissions@mail.keuka.edu Transfer Achievement Award: A merit scholarship of $6,000 is available to transfer students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher upon entrance to Keuka College. Keuka Transfer Scholarship: A merit scholarship of $5,000 is available to transfer students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to upon entrance to Keuka College. Students who do not meet the 3.0 guideline may be eligible to receive funds under this award based on both academic achievement and financial need. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: An academic scholarship for traditional undergraduate transfer students valued at $2,000 per academic year. Applicant must be a current member of Phi Theta Kappa and provide proof of membership at the time of application to be eligible. Residency Grant: $1,000 (The Keuka Residency Grant may not apply to recipients of merit awards). These scholarships are guaranteed for up to four years of undergraduate study provided the student is full time and maintains satisfactory academic progress. LE MOYNE COLLEGE Syracuse, NY (800) Transfer Merit Scholarship: Awarded to entering transfer students with award amounts per academic year based upon cumulative GPA, ranging from $4,000-$10,000. To be eligible, prospective recipients must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours (at the time of application) and plan to attend Le Moyne College as a full-time student. Scholarships are renewable based upon the recipient maintaining good academic and social standing at Le Moyne. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Available to members of Phi Theta Kappa. LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY POST Brookville, NY (800) Transfer Student Scholarship: Available to transferring students with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better and at least 12 credits. Awards range from $8,000-20,000. NAZARETH COLLEGE Rochester, NY (585) Transfer Scholarship: Consideration requires a minimum of 24 completed credit hours from the most recent transfer institution that have been accepted into student s Nazareth College degree program. Award amounts are: GPA of 4.0 ($9,000); GPA of 3.6 to 3.99 ($8,500); GPA of 3.25 to 3.59 ($7,500); GPA of 2.75 to 3.24 ($6,500). A 3.0 cumulative GPA must be maintained. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $1,000 per semester awarded to students transferring directly from a 2 year college program who are members of Phi Theta Kappa. A 3.0 cumulative GPA must be maintained and official verification of Phi Theta Kappa membership must be received before June 30 to enroll in the fall term, or before October 31 to enroll in spring term. Campus Diversity Scholarship: $2,000 per year granted to students who represent family backgrounds, life experiences or academic interests atypical of full-time undergraduate students at Nazareth College. Renewable for eight consecutive full time, undergraduate semesters, provided a 2.0 cumulative GPA is maintained. Campus Room Grant: $2,000 per year awarded to full-time undergraduate students living in oncampus housing. Renewable for eight consecutive full-time undergraduate semesters provided student resides in on-campus housing. Nazareth Veteran s Scholarship Awards of up to $7,500 per year for up to a total of four years to any Post 9/11 honorably discharged veteran who has served at least six months of active duty or child transferee with veteran tuition benefits eligibility and who is enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student. Veterans and child transferees that qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program would be able to cover the full cost of Nazareth College tuition and fees. 5

6 NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Old Westbury, NY Manhattan, NY (800) 345-NYIT Transfer Scholarship: These scholarships are granted to qualified incoming students who have earned either a minimum of 24 credits from an accredited college or an Associate degree. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 from all previously attended institutions to be considered for scholarships (amounts ranging from $7,000 to $15,000). NIAGARA UNIVERSITY Niagara University, NY (800) Transfer Scholarship: Entering transfer students at Niagara University who have earned a minimum of 12 credit hours from an accredited college with a GPA overall of 2.50 or above are eligible for scholarships ranging in amounts from $7,500 to $11,000 per year. Each scholarship is renewable for up to three years; students must maintain satisfactory academic progress: 3.40 and above ($11,000 per year); 3.00 to ($10,000 per year); 2.50 to 2.99 ($7,500 per year). Phi Theta Kappa Award/Alpha Beta Gamma Award ($1,000 per year): Students are required to forward a letter from their Phi Theta Kappa or Alpha Beta Gamma advisor stating that they are a member in good standing. Students are not eligible to receive both awards. Athletic, Community-Service, ROTC, and offered. PAUL SMITH S COLLEGE Paul Smiths, NY (800) Transfer Recognition Scholarship: Available to students with a GPA and is valued at $6,000. Recipients must achieve a cumulative 2.0 GPA in order to maintain their scholarship. Transfer Excellence Scholarship: Available to students with a GPA above 3.0 and is valued at $9,000. Recipients must achieve a cumulative 2.5 GPA to maintain their scholarship. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Available for accepted students who are a member of Phi Theta Kappa and valued at $2,000. Students must obtain letter from their chapter advisor or president to be eligible. Recipients must achieve a cumulative 3.0 GPA to maintain their scholarship. Scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters so long as the student is enrolled full time at Paul Smith s College and maintains the required cumulative GPA. ROBERTS WESLEYAN COLLEGE Rochester, NY (585) Presidential Scholarship ($9,000 per year): Cumulative GPA of at most recent college attended full-time or Phi Theta Kappa member. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains a least a 3.20 cumulative GPA. Dean s Scholarship ($7,000 per year): Cumulative GPA of at most recent college attended full-time. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains a least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Rochester, NY (585) RIT Trustee Scholarship for Transfer Students: Awarded to transfer applicants with a GPA of 3.3 or higher (computed by RIT) who will complete an Associate degree before entering. Awards are $9,000 per year with transfer GPA of 3.6 or higher; $6,000-$7,500 per year with GPA of 3.3 to Renewable. Achievement Scholarship for Transfer Students: Transfer applicants with 3.3 or higher transfer GPA (computed by RIT) and 30 semester or 45 quarter hours completed at previous institution will qualify for $6,000 per academic year. Renewable. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Awarded to transfer students with an Associate degree elected to Phi Theta Kappa. $2,000 per year. (May be combined with a Trustee Scholarship). For Trustee or Achievement Scholarship consideration applicant must submit all required admission application documents by April 1 for summer or fall entry; October 1 for winter entry; January 15 for spring entry. RUSSELL SAGE COLLEGE Troy, NY (888) Transfer Excellence Award: Offered to full-time transfer students who have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA. Awards of up to $12,000 per year are renewable for up to three years provided the student remains in good academic standing. Phi Theta Kappa Award: Offered to full-time transfer students who have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA. Awards of up to $12,000 are available to all Phi Theta Kappa members.. SAGE COLLEGE OF ALBANY Albany, NY (888) Transfer Excellence Scholarship: Consideration is given to student applicants who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (Up to $4,000 per year). Phi Theta Kappa Award: Consideration is given to full-time transfer applicants who are members of Phi Theta Kappa and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (Up to $12,000 per year). No separate application is required. These scholarships are renewable for two additional years provided the student remains in good academic standing and maintains full-time status. Students who matriculate into Sage College of Albany Sage After Work program are not eligible for the Transfer Excellence or Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships. ST. JOHN FISHER COLLEGE Rochester, NY (585) Transfer Achievement Scholarship: Students transferring to St. John Fisher College with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher will qualify. This awards ranges in amount from $5,000 to $7,500 per year. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: An additional $2,500 per year is awarded to members. Candidates will receive full consideration upon completion of the Transfer Application for Admission and receipt of official transcript from all previously attended institutions. SUNY ALFRED STATE COLLEGE Alfred, NY (800) 4-ALFRED (option #1) Transfer Scholarship: $1,000 awarded to transfer students with preference given to Associate degree graduates entering a corresponding baccalaureate degree program. Students must have a 3.25 cumulative GPA and demonstrate continuous, fulltime college attendance for consideration. 6

7 SUNY BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY Binghamton, NY (607) Transfer Scholarship: Scholarships are based on academic merit, financial need, or a combination of merit and need. There may also be other criteria established by the donors which recipients must meet. Unless specified at the time of selection, scholarships are for one year and are nonrenewable. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Limited scholarships are offered to members, with application through the Admissions website. Except for a few scholarships, no separate application is required. To be considered for needbased scholarships, you must complete a FAFSA by the recommended deadline of February 1st. Applicants to the Decker School of Nursing should contact the individual school. SUNY BROCKPORT Brockport, NY (585) Transfer Scholarship: Entering transfer students with a grade point average of 3.25 or higher will be considered. The Scholarship Office will mail application forms directly to all accepted students who qualify academically starting in January. Scholarship forms and applications may also be picked up in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or in the Scholarship Office. SUNY CANTON Canton, NY (800) Endowed Scholarship: These scholarships range from $100 to $5,000. A student must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA, maintain full-time status at SUNY Canton, and complete a scholarship application. Fund for Excellence Scholarship: These scholarships range from $500 to $5,000. Many of the scholarships are renewable after one year, granted that the student maintains the required grade point average. Submission of the FAFSA form is required. SUNY CORTLAND Cortland, NY (607) Merit and Endowed Scholarship: Transfer students who have completed four full-time academic semesters prior to attending SUNY Cortland, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, will be considered priority candidates for these scholarships. SUNY Cortland does not require a formal scholarship application. Scholarships are awarded automatically at the time of admission or once a completed financial aid application is on file. SUNY COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & FORESTRY Syracuse, NY (800) Transfer Scholarship: Merit and need-based scholarships are The criteria vary for each award. Amounts of awards vary from $300 to $5,000. Students must file the FAFSA to apply for scholarship aid. ESF Presidential Scholarship: Transfer applicants who have earned a college grade point average of 3.4 or higher will be considered for up to $3,000 per year for New York State residents or up to $6,000 per year for out-of-state residents. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: These are valued at $1,500 per year and may be combined with other aid. Proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership must be provided along with ESF s application for admission. SUNY FREDONIA Fredonia, NY (716) Transfer Scholarship Award: Scholarships are offered only to fall transfer students who have received an Associate degree from an accredited two year college. Student should have a 3.5 cumulative average and must live in the college residence halls. Student must maintain an overall cumulative 3.25 GPA to retain the scholarship for the second year and maintain the college residency requirement (awards range from $1,000 to $2,000). In addition to the transfer scholarships, transfer students are eligible for additional scholarships such as the Fredonia Award for Excellence, out-ofstate student awards, and minority scholarships. SUNY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Utica, NY (866) 2SUNYIT Transfer Achievement Scholarship: Students must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours at their previous institution(s) at the time of acceptance and have a minimum cumulative GPA of Must be admitted for full-time study and meet all institutional deadlines. Students must meet renewal requirements to receive full award amounts. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above will be considered for $750 a year for two years of consecutive full-time study. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above will be considered for $1,000 a year for two years of consecutive full-time study. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Five of each of the above scholarships are reserved for Phi Theta Kappa members. Phi Theta Kappa must be noted on the student s transcript, or additional proof of membership must be submitted. Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship: Transfer award amounts can range from $750 to $1,500 per semester and are awarded for a maximum of two years. Students must meet the stated Transfer Achievement Scholarship Eligibility, be New York State residents, U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens, demonstrate contribution to the diversity of SUNYIT s student body, and demonstrate that they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Students may be asked to present additional materials to establish that the above criteria have been met. SUNY NEW PALTZ New Paltz, NY (845) Limited New Paltz Foundation Scholarships for transfer students are determined by Admissions upon a student s acceptance to the college. SUNY ONEONTA Oneonta, NY (800) Transfer Student Scholarship: Student who have at least a 3.5 GPA, or who are members of Phi Theta Kappa earning an Associate degree and who will be a direct transfer will be considered. Scholarships are only awarded to students entering in the fall. The only application needed to apply for a scholarship is the application for admission, and, in the case of financial need as a criterion, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 7

8 SUNY OSWEGO Oswego, NY (315) Transfer Scholarship: Two-year transfer students with a cumulative 3.30 GPA and 57 or more college credits are eligible for a one-time scholarship worth $1,000. Renewable Residential Scholarship: This award requires on-campus residency and is available for applicants who are both non-nys residents and U.S. citizens or registered aliens. The scholarship is valued at full-room cost, currently $7,990 annually. SUNY PLATTSBURGH Plattsburgh, NY (888) Transfer Scholarship: Students will be eligible for a one-time transfer scholarship if they have earned a minimum of 15 transferable semester hours (at the time of acceptance) with a combined cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater and are planning to enroll in classes as a full-time student (12 or more semester hours). Transfer Housing Grant (requires on-campus living): Transfer students with a combined cumulative GPA will be eligible to receive a $500 Transfer Housing Grant. Transfer Merit Scholarship: Transfer students with a combined cumulative GPA will be eligible to receive a $500 Transfer Merit Scholarship. Recipients for these awards are identified through the admissions process. SUNY Plattsburgh calculates the combined cumulative GPA as the GPA earned across all colleges attended following high school graduation. SUNY POTSDAM Potsdam, NY (877) Potsdam Transfer Scholars Program: The scholarship committee will consider cumulative college GPA, essay, and a history of participation and leadership in extracurricular activities and community service. This program is available to entering matriculated undergraduate transfer students applying for fall admission. Transfer Scholarship: Renewable for one subsequent year by maintaining a minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA. A scholarship application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the year you are entering SUNY Potsdam are required, as well as one recommendation letter from a professor or advisor. SUNY PURCHASE Purchase, NY (914) Transfer Student Scholarship: Eligibility is evaluated on the basis of college GPA. There is no formal application process for institutional scholarships. Scholarship criteria vary for students in the Liberal Arts and Sciences and students in the Visual and Performing Arts. The Directors of the Visual and Performing Arts programs award scholarships to students in their respective programs To be considered for scholarships based on financial need you must complete a FAFSA no later than February 1st. Even though you meet the criteria for consideration, your division may have other requirements. Please check with your division for more specific information. Your chances for consideration of scholarship funds are usually better if you declare a major and file a FASFA no later than February 1st. SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY Syracuse, NY (315) Transfer Scholarship: Transfer students are eligible for merit scholarships up to $6,000. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Phi Theta Kappa members are eligible for $2,000 when transferring to the university. The student must be a member in good standing, have a minimum of 24 transfer credits and be enrolled full-time. Students with a previous Bachelor degree are not eligible and students must enroll immediately following the completion of his/her two year college program. The deadlines are June 1st for fall enrollment and December 15th for spring enrollment. Recipients must maintain full-time status and a GPA of 2.75 or higher for renewal. Scholarships are renewable annually if satisfactory academic performance is maintained. Each student is eligible to receive only one scholarship. Transfer scholarship amounts generally range from $5,000 to $20,000 per year. Awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, initiative, creativity, enthusiasm, and leadership regardless of financial circumstances. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Phi Theta Kappa members are awarded at least $5,000 per year. Rochester Pledge Scholarship: As a Yellow Ribbon campus, the University of Rochester awards all qualified veterans the Rochester Pledge scholarship, covering their expenses. WELLS COLLEGE Aurora, NY (315) Transfer Scholarship: Awarded to students who transfer from an accredited college or university. Applicants for these scholarships must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and be recommended by a professor at the college you last attended. Transfer Scholarships are awarded up to $15,000 per year.
