The mentor teacher must be a professional employee of the district. The TOR must be a Michigan certified and properly endorsed teacher. Online, Computer-based, Blended, Etc. 30 Seat Time Waiver (STW)- Since all two-way communication must take place between a TOR or a mentor teacher and the pupil, and a TOR must be assigned to the pupil, it would be logical to make the TOR and the mentor one and the same. The only time that it doesn t make sense applies to 21f classes. 15

The use of a permitted substitute teacher as a mentor does not eliminate the requirement that a Michigan certified teacher, employed by the district, be assigned to the pupil as the TOR. 19 Full Year Permit 37 Requires: Bachelor s or higher degree Core subject area - major or test Mentor teacher with experience and expertise Emergency Permit 38 NOT available for core subject areas. Requires: Bachelor s or higher degree; OR Be currently enrolled in an approved program and have completed at least 90 semester credits 19

20 Expert-in-Residence Permit 39 Only valid for a maximum of 2 hours per day. Requires: Bachelor s or higher degree Demonstrated unusual distinction or exceptional talent At least 5 years of successful work experience in the immediately preceding 7 years Orientation to teaching 1233b Permit 40 Only issued for 9-12 computer science, foreign languages, mathematics, biology, chemistry, engineering, physics and robotics. Requires: Bachelor s or higher degree, with MAJOR Demonstrated unusual distinction or exceptional talent At least 2 years of successful work experience in the immediately preceding 5 years (except for foreign languages) 20
