1 The Pulse May 28, 2015 THANK YOU! SHS team members raised $774 in cash, and one truck load full of non-perishables and frozen foods for the Good Samaritan Center during Healthcare Week activities this year. Your generosity is amazing! Thanks so much for participating and helping those in need. Special thanks to Morgan Head for coordinating all of the cash donations and for her valuable time! Please visit swhealth.org/pulse for the printable weekly cafeteria menu!
2 2015 Southwest Memorial Hospital Foundation Scholarship Recipients Jennifer Gaddis, Kelly Marston, Konnar McGee, Haley Nadone, Leigh Sand, and Jessica Wilburn Jennifer Gaddis became an EMT at age 16 and started volunteering for the local fire department at home in Western Maryland. Three years later she became a paramedic, and since then moved west where she has worked for Southwest Memorial Hospital EMS for 10 years. Jennifer is currently enrolled in the nursing program at Pueblo Community College, where she plans to obtain an Associate's degree and then her Bachelor's. She intends to work as a nurse in Southwest Colorado. Kelly Marston has a strong history in healthcare, and has steadily added to her skills and experience with new certifications and employment opportunities in her career. Currently enrolled in the nursing program at Southwest Colorado Community College, Kelly is confident that her Bachelor's degree in Health and Human Services along with the RN license she will obtain through the program will prepare her to provide both social and clinical care to her patients. (Not pictured) Konnar McGee, a 2015 MCHS graduate, has been admitted to the College of Health and Human Sciences at CSU. He plans to study Physical Therapy, and eventually obtain a PhD in the field. Many of Konnar's family members have careers in healthcare, and as athlete in baseball and basketball, he wants to help others recover from sports-related injuries and return to a high level of performance. Haley Nadone graduated from MCHS this year, and will study pre-med at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. After undergraduate school, she wants to combine an advanced degree in biomedical engineering with medical school, to better use new technology and current research in treating patients. She has volunteered at Southwest Memorial Hospital, and Participated in High School Leadership Montezuma. Leigh Sand is currently a student in the Pueblo Community College nursing program, and after getting her RN license plans to become a Certified Nurse-Midwife. (Not pictured) Jessica Wilburn is a 2015 graduate of Mancos High School. Her own experience with a cardiac condition in her teens taught her that she wanted to become a Pediatric Cardiologist herself. During high school, Jessica volunteered and job shadowed at a local hospital, raising more than $9600 for its cardiac programs. Jessica plans to attend Colorado State University to pursue a Bachelor's in Biology, and attend medical school after graduation.
