1 TECHNOLOGY In-Service Schedule School Year Macon County School System Registration for ALL TECHNOLOGY Summer sessions will begin on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 To register, beginning Tuesday, May 21, 2013, please call Cindy Freeman, Pam Keene, or Patricia Ferguson at Only ONE person per call. PLEASE do not call prior to Tuesday, May 21 st. Please leave a phone number where you can be reached. Again this year, we will NOT take a waiting list (same as last year). You will be notified if a session does not make due to numbers. All sessions below will be held at the Macon County School System s Technology Learning Center located at the Board of Education unless otherwise stated. Please do not bring children to these in-service sessions. If for some reason you cannot attend a session that you have registered for, please call Cindy Freeman, Pam Keene, or Patricia Ferguson and let us know. (Thanks!) To be in compliance with the high quality professional development, you must have at least 9 hours (1 ½ days) of related activities. The codes are listed below and are keyed on each in-service title that is offered. The 9 hours that you choose can be combined across all in-services offered through Technology, Regular Education, Special Education, or CTE. June 5 ipad App Sharing across the Curriculum 1-Day For: Teachers Grades Pk-12 In service Schedule Page 1
2 Presenter: David Flynn This session will focus on apps available through the itunes App Store that can be used in the K-12 classroom. Teachers attending this session should bring their ipod/ipad device and be prepared to share apps being used in their classroom. Teachers will receive a packet of apps that are good for K-12 classrooms. This session will be an open discussion and demonstration type setting where we can all share how ipads and various Apps are working in our schools to help students learn!! June 6 ipad App Sharing across the Curriculum 1 -Day For: Teachers Grades Pk-12 This session will focus on apps available through the itunes App Store that can be used in the K-12 classroom. 3 June 17 SMART Boards The Basics for Beginners Time: 8:30-11:30 SMART Boards are amazing teaching tools! Participants will learn introductory skills such as alignment and tool settings, as well as explore lesson planning using SMART tools and Notebook 11. The session will also feature web-based tools to use with a SMART Board and tips on incorporating them into your classroom. The session is designed for beginners or those who just need a basics refresher. June 17 SMART Boards Extended or Beyond the Basics Time: 12:30-3:30 This session will address SMART Boards Beyond the Basics. The session is designed for teachers who feel comfortable using SMART Boards Notebook 11 but need extended training. Time will be given for teachers to explore, create, and share. June 18 SMART Boards Creating Content/Lessons 1 -Day For: Teachers Grades PK-12 This session will focus on guided and independent practice in the use of SMART Board software to create content. Teachers should bring all curriculum/textbook materials to be used to make lessons for their subject area. Teachers will be provided with lots of time to create engaging lessons during the in-service so they are ready to use when school starts. In service Schedule Page 3
4 June 20 Cyber Bullying Time: 8:30-11:30 Teachers attending this session will be introduced to the Bullying Project. This session will focus on the story of 5 students and a year in their life at school being bullied. The session will focus on different types of bullying with a special emphasis on cyber bullying. Teachers will leave with on-line resources to use in their classroom. June 20 Cyber Bullying Time: 12:30-3:30 Teachers attending this session will be introduced to the Bullying Project. This session will focus on the story of 5 students and a year in their life at school being bullied. The session will focus on different types of bullying with a special emphasis on cyber bullying. Teachers will leave with on-line resources to use in their classroom. June 24 Microsoft Office 2007 Suite POWERPOINT 1-Day For: Teachers Grades K-12 (T, C, I) Limit: 14 Teachers This session will focus on the Microsoft Office s PowerPoint which is available on all computers in the Macon County School System s classrooms. Teachers attending this session will learn to create presentation and learn tips to make the presentations more eye-catching for the students. Teachers will also learn methods to incorporate PowerPoint into In service Schedule Page 4
5 the classroom as a teaching tool. Time will be given to develop and share a PowerPoint presentation with assistance. June 25 Expression Web for School Technology Contacts ONLY 1- Day For: School Technology Contacts ONLY (T) Presenter: Charlie Myers and Patricia Ferguson Bring your laptops with your school website and be prepared to learn more about Expression Web. June 26 ipads, ipods, itunes and TN Electronic Learning Center ½ -Day For: Teachers Grades Pk-12 Time: 8:30-11:30 Participants will learn basic navigation techniques of the ipad and ipod Touch and explore the content available for educators including itunes. A variety of apps and podcasts will be featured as well as websites that offer tips on using an ipads and ipods as a classroom instructional tool. Teachers will also take a tour of Tennessee s famous Tennessee Electronic Learning Center and the many resources available to teachers through this website. ipads and ipods are not required to attend this session, but, if you have an ipad, please bring it with you. Teachers will be shown how to develop QR codes for students to use with an ipad or an ipod. Teachers will be shown how to develop QR codes for students to use with an ipad or an ipod. June 28 SMART Response Clickers The Basics ½ -Day For: Teachers Grades PK- (T, C, I) Limit: 18 Teachers Time: 8:30-11:30 This session will feature an introduction to SMART remote response system or clickers. Using the clickers, teachers can get instant feedback on premade or custom made assessments! In service Schedule Page 6
7 June 28 SMART Response Clickers Beyond Beginners (T, C, I) Limit: 18 Teachers Time: 12:30-3:30 This session will focus on skills beyond the introduction of the SMART Response System outlined in Clickers Basic. Teachers will take a deeper look at the Teacher Tools portion of the software and begin to make their own assessments to use in their classroom. Time will be given for teachers to create SMART Response System assessments during the day. July 8 SMART Response Creating Content with Clickers 1-Day For: Teachers Grades K-12 Registration: Pre-register by calling: Pam Keene or Cindy Freeman This session will focus on guided and independent practice in the use of SMART Response software to create content for clickers. Teachers should bring all curriculum/textbook materials to be used to make the assessments. Teachers will be provided with lots of time to create assessments during the in-service so they are ready to use when school starts. July 10 Google Docs Learn How to Use this FREE On-Line Tool ½ -Day For: Teachers PK-12 8:30-11:30 Limit: 20 Teachers or Time: 8:30-11:30 OR 12:30-3:30 12:30-3:30 Registration: Pre-register by calling: Pam Keene or Cindy (T, C, I) Freeman Place: MCHS, Room 214 Presenter: Jeanie Hix This session is an introduction to the educational uses of Google Docs which includes how to setup a Google Docs account, as well as how to create, share, and download documents using this wonderful free tool. Teachers will be provided with lots of time to create engaging lessons during the in-service so they are ready to use when school starts. July 16 th 19 th Make and Take Technology July 23 rd 26 th For: Teachers Grades Pre-K-12 (No Credit) Limit: 8 Teachers Registration: Pre-register by calling: Pam Keene or Cindy Freeman Because we are striving for high quality professional development, there will be no in-service credit given for Make and Take Technology. This inservice is NOT for teachers to make personal items. We are asking that teachers make materials for the classroom only. Through the Technology Center, we furnish printer ink/toner/card stock paper/colored papers/and some labels. If you need other specialty paper and supplies, you will need to bring them yourself. There will be a limit of 8 teachers per day. Please register. July 22 ENA LIVE CONTENT for Distance learning 1 Day Time: TBA (T, C, I) For: School Technology Contacts ONLY Presenter: Monica Cougan, Education Networks of America This session is to continue the deployment of the ENA Live Distance Learning initiative that began during the Spring of Hardware has been issued and training has already begun on how to use the equipment. The next step is how to access the content. August 1 Troubleshooting for School Technology Contacts 1 Day For: School Technology Contacts ONLY (T) Registration: Pre-register by calling: Pam Keene or Cindy Freeman In service Schedule Page 8
9 Place: Technology Learning Center Presenters: Jason Phelps and Joey Flowers, Artis Networks and Supervisor of Technology This session is to instruct the technology contacts on minor troubleshooting problems that occur during the school year with computers, software, fileservers, etc. ALL School Technology Contacts are requested to attend. There will be a focus on SMART Board, SMART Tables, and SMART Response Clickers. September 5 th Discovery Education Assessment Website ½ -Day For: NEW K-8 Teachers Time: 3:30-6:30 Registration: Pre-register by calling: Pam Keene or Cindy Freeman Presenter: Rita Wilburn, Kelly Carnahan and Faye Fitzpatrick This session will focus on navigating the DEA website. Teachers will learn how to login to the site, access reports, interpret reports and build probes to assist with teaching and assessing state and or common core standards. Participants will be given a username and password at this session. TBA ½ Day Time: 3:30-6:30 3:30-6:30 Limit: 14 teachers. (T) Registration: Registration will be announced during the New Teacher Orientation on August 1 st and will be posted on the website. Teachers will receive account, sign an Acceptable Use Policy and practice using . Participants will learn how to change passwords, how to compose and send an message, how to read , In service Schedule Page 9
10 and how to access their account using ENA s web . This session is required, by Board Policy, for all teachers who use through the School System s network. According to Board Policy (which can be found at: Users with network access shall not utilize district resources to establish electronic mail accounts through third-party providers or any other nonstandard electronic mail system. TBA Internet I & Internet II Two ½ Days Time: 3:30-6:30 for BOTH sessions Totaling 1 Day Limit: 14 Teachers. 3:30-6:30 Registration: Registration will be announced during the New (T, C, I) Teacher Orientation on August 1 st and will be posted on the website. Call Pam Keene, Cindy Freeman, or David Flynn, presenter For: Teachers Grades PreK-12 Pre-requisite: Some basic computer knowledge is required. This session addresses the use of the Internet in the classroom. According to Board Policy (which can be found at: ), Before any employee is allowed use of the district's Internet or intranet access, the employee shall sign a written agreement, developed by the director/designee that sets out the terms and conditions of such use. Any employee who accesses the district's computer system for any purpose agrees to be bound by the terms of that agreement, even if no signed written agreement is on file. The written agreement is the Acceptable Use Policy which states that teachers who use the Internet in the classroom must attend two ½ day local training sessions. Teachers will be asked to sign an Internet Acceptable Use Policy which will be kept on file at the Office of the Director of Schools. Some basic computer knowledge is required.
