1 ANIMATION DINGLE 2015 March 12th - 13th For the attention of Transitional Year Students in Kerry Training Day in ITT, Tralee: Saturday 13th December Deadline for entries: Friday 9th January 2015 YA-O-TY Dingle International Film Festival, in partnership with JAM Media and with the assistance of the Creative Media Department of Institute of Technology, Tralee is hosting an animation competition for Transitional Year Students in Kerry for YA-O-TY (Young Animator of The Year): The call is for new animation works created by Transitional Year Students. The Creative Media Department of the IT Tralee will hold an Animation training day for those TY students wishing to take part. A selection of the entries will be showcased at Animation Dingle on Thursday the 12 th March with an awards ceremony. One Transitional Year Student will be announced as the 2015 YOUNG ANIMATOR OF THE YEAR. The award will include the offer of a work placement within Ireland s top animation company, JAM Media and a silver award designed and made by renowned Dingle Jeweller, Brian de Staic. Animation Dingle 2015 will showcase the best of the student s entries, along with a programme of animation from Ireland and Europe. 2 Murakami received The Inaugural Murakami Award at Animation Dingle in 2013 and Oscar winner Richie Banham received the award in will also see The Animation Ireland Dingle. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Students are being asked to produce an animated film for Animation Dingle. The theme is: TAKING OVER THE WORLD The theme TAKING OVER THE WORLD is completely open to the student s interpretation. The animated film can be: Hand drawn animation Any form of computer generated animation, including flash or coding Claymation or cut-out animation The film must be No longer than 1min (60secs) in duration. It can be shorter than 1 min The film must be finished as a QUICKTIME movie file and then uploaded to Dropbox. Animation Dingle will take place on March 12th 13th 2015 Dingle International Film Festival dates run: March Animation Dingle is an annual event each March, that comes together to celebrate the best Animation Features, Series and Shorts that the Irish and International Animation industry has to offer. A major component of the Dingle International Film Festival (March ), running jointly alongside the main event for the last 3 years, now established as a core component of its screenings, speakers and activities. Animation is emerging as one of the strongest aspects of the Irish media industry today. With millions of children every week watching animated programmes produced here, Ireland is recognised globally as a leader for producing content for TV, Film, Games, Mobile and Apps. To celebrate these achievements, Animation Dingle are excited to announce that next year s festival will conclude with an awards ceremony to highlight the best and brightest of its companies, colleges and individuals. "Having been to many interesting film events over the years I can honestly say with hand on my heart the Dingle film festival is by far the best craic I've ever had at a film festival. This may have been influenced by Dingle s scenic beauty, the fantastic company or my pride in receiving the Murakami Award. When The Wind Blows was a major reason for my becoming an animator - Oscar winner, Richie Baneham (Avatar, Lord of The Rings Trilogy) JAM Media is a highly acclaimed BAFTA Award winning company that was founded in 2002 by John Rice, Alan Shannon and Mark Cumberton and is known for ROY, TILLY AND FRIENDS and PICME. Traditionally Jam is made by heating up lots of juicy berries and adding sugar, requiring jars and stuff. But back in 2002 three animators joined forces, John Rice, Alan Shannon and Mark Cumberton and together they made a different kind of JAM altogether. They developed a recipe for sticky content, the exact ingredients of which remains a mystery but I have heard that it involves picking a big bunch of great ideas, a good helping of technology, some magical stories and flavour to taste with fine animation. Since the early days they have grown bigger and stronger each year with many new talented artists and programmers joining the team to make JAM even sweeter.

4 Dingle IFF is a boutique film festival, which makes room for everyone. Offering unique screening experiences with a high caliber of stars & talent attending seminars & workshops. The festival is home to The Gregory Peck Award. Recipients have included; Laura Dern; Jean-Jacques Beineix, 2-time Oscar nominated, Stephen Frears, 6-time Oscar nominated, Jim Sheridan and Golden Globe winner, Gabriel Byrne. The Peck family has also attended the festival. Dingle IFF is a sought after event, which is personal, has style and exhibits film in unique locations including: The Phoenix Cinema, (built in 1937 by the Houlihan brothers, who at the time, burned peat to power the two Italian projectors in the cinema), St. James Church, which is over 200 year old and An Lab, an Irish language arts center. Creative Media Department, Institute of Technology, Tralee The Creative Media Department at the ITT offers a wide-range of undergraduate programmes tailored to produce qualified graduates for the creative media sector. Digital Media, Music Technology, Sound Technology, Graphics, TV, Radio Broadcasting, New Media Production, Creative Writing for Digital Media, Film, Animation, Claymation and Social Media are study areas included in the suite of programmes on offer.
