1 NARRATIVE ACTIVITY COMPLETION REPORT 1 ACTIVITY FACTS Name of Platform South Partner Institution Activity name Main responsible resource person(s) for activity from South partner institution 2 Main responsible resource person(s) for activity from Danish university 3 Workplace of Danish resource person(s) Start and end of implementation (dd/mm/yy) Growth & Employment Platform SUA Entrepreneurship and Innovation in a methodological perspective Daniel Wilson Ndyetabula dwn@business.aau.dk Olav Jull Sørensen: ojs@business.aau.dk Aalborg University (four full days) ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION Brief description of planned activity 4 Purpose To give PhD-students insights into entrepreneurship and innovation and, at the same time, provide them with skills on methodology: how to conduct research on entrepreneurs. Content A total of 17 sessions, including Entrepreneurship and Development (2); Creativity (4): GVC and Entrepreneurship and Government-Business Relations (2); Concepts and tools for entrepreneurships (4); How entrepreneurial are you and meeting an entrepreneur (1); Methodology (2). All students will have to do an assignment (5-10 pages), including interviewing an entrepreneur. The certificate will be issued when the assignment is submitted and to our Contribution to research capacity building Indicators satisfaction. Two young scholars (postdoc Daniel Wilson Ndyetabula and lecturer Betty Waized) from SUA were involved in the planning and the teaching of the sessions. *Students were asked to be on time and to be their all times. The 21 students lived up to this. Other indicators are from the assessment (written), which were very 1 Must be filled and submitted to Platform Secretariat no later than 2 weeks upon completion of activity. 2 All responsible parties must sign Activity Completion Report before submission. 3 All responsible parties must sign Activity Completion Report before submission. 4 Use LFA (and/or Monitoring Matrix) as a point of departure, where relevant
2 Other relevant details/comments positive. Number of participants Target We had three PhD-students 2 from the BSU-programme and 1 under the support of a different project. We had one MSc graduate in addition to 17 MBA-students that could benefit from the course as they were to write their thesis. Results The students were according to their assessments very satisfied especially did they like the sessions on creativity a new Describe/explain deviations from planned activity (timing, number of participants, content of activity, venue, etc.) Main lessons learned (list 3-5 issues) Suggestions for follow up activities topic/world for them. We did not have deviations from planned activities except that we wanted to have the course running together with USDM, but they could not participate in the planned week and no students from USDM came to the course. 1. Not easy to organize an activity together with two universities so that all calendars meet. 2. As the PhD-students do not study the topic (entrepreneurship) as part of their thesis, we took up some topics that more students could use, for example, creativity; GVC, and Methodology and discussed these topics in an entrepreneurial perspective. 3. It is recommendable that PhD-courses have methodological sessions that relate to the topic in focus in our case how to study entrepreneurship. 4. We did not plan to give students a lot of readings beforehand. This is not necessarily good, but it has the advantage that the teachers are not caught in the middle and thus can better plan their lectures, when you know that nobody has read the literature beforehand. The assignment following the course also makes them read the materials ex-post. Furthermore, we asked them to plan the reading of the literature on topics that were most relevant to them. 5. We used dropbox to provide students with materials. The advantage is that now they can access the materials whenever they want/need (Daniel Mushi s idea) Informal: The PhD-students can contact us if they want to have a topic deepened. Formal: Repeat the course
