1 ToT Workshop on Entrepreneurship Education for Secondary Schools and Teacher Training Colleges 23 May-03 June 2011 White Parrot Motel-Korogwe Background The Government of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development organization (UNIDO) are undertaking a project to develop and introduce an entrepreneurship education curriculum in secondary schools (forms 1-4) and one in diploma teachers training colleges (TTCs). The syllabi have been validated in a stakeholders meeting in March 2010 and the teaching material is being finalized. The Government of Tanzania intends to introduce the new curriculum on a selected number of pilot secondary schools and TTCs from next academic year, starting from form 1 and progressing to the successive forms, year-by-year. In order to ensure effective implementation of Entrepreneurship Education, Training of Trainers (ToT) for in service teachers should be conducted and thereafter role it out to the pilot schools for implementation. 1

2 Objectives The overall objective of the workshop was to build the capacity of teachers with entrepreneurship teaching methodologies and familiarize participants with the rationale and scope of the entrepreneurship education in secondary schools and TTC in Tanzania. Specifically, the Specifically the workshop aimed to: Train in service teachers with entrepreneurship teaching methodologies; Present the recently developed entrepreneurship syllabi for secondary schools and TTCs; Present the recently developed teachers guide and students manuals for secondary schools Provide a forum for brainstorming on how best schools can support as well as be supported to enhance entrepreneurship teaching and learning in their schools.
