2 Controller-based Automation: Central motion control 2 Controller-based Automation: Central motion control The Lenze automation system "Controller-based Automation" serves to create complex automation solutions with central motion control. Here, the Controller is the control centre of the system. System structure of the Controller-based Automation: "All from one single source" [2-1] Sample configuration (EtherCAT bus system): 3200 C controller with I/O system 1000 and Servo-Inverter i Lenze Backup & Restore Software Manual DMS 1.3 EN 04/2014 TD17

2 Controller-based Automation: Central motion control Lenze provides especially coordinated system components: Engineering software The Lenze Engineering Tools on your Engineering PC (Windows operating system ) serve to parameterise, configure and diagnose the system. The Engineering PC communicates with the controller via Ethernet. Controller The Lenze Controller is available as Panel Controller with integrated touch display and as Cabinet Controller in control cabinet design. Cabinet Controllers provide a direct coupling of the I/O system 100 via the integrated backplane bus. The runtime software of the Lenze Controllers provides the control and/or visualisation of motion sequences. The following software versions are available: "Logic": Sequence control in the Controller, motion control in the inverter "Motion": Sequence control and motion control in the Controller, inverter as actuating drive "Visu": Optional visualisation of the automation system, can be used separately or in addition to "Logic" or "Motion" An external monitor panel/display can be connected to the Cabinet Controller 3231 C/ 3241 C. Without software: Controller as single component with operating system only Bus systems EtherCAT is a standard "on board" bus system of the Controller-based Automation. EtherCAT enables the control of all nodes (Motion/Logic) on one common fieldbus. Optionally, CANopen, PROFIBUS and PROFINET can be used as extended topologies. The Controllers c300/p300 have a CANopen interface "on board" as well (in addition to EtherCAT). Inverter (e.g. Servo Inverter i700) "Logic & Motion" runtime software The "Controller-based Automation" system allows for the central control of devices for Logic and Motion applications. The runtime software runs on the Controller. In case of Logic applications, the sequence control is carried out in the Controller and the motion control is carried out in the inverter. In case of Motion applications, the sequence control and motion control are carried out in the Controller. The inverter is used as actuating drive. Motion applications make special demands on the cycle time and real-time capability of the bus system between the Controller and the subordinate fieldbus nodes. this is for instance the case if the field devices, for example, are to move in a synchronised way or if position setpoints are to be transmitted. 12 2 Controller-based Automation: Central motion control Fieldbus communication The Lenze Controllers have different interfaces for fieldbus communication: Area Cabinet Controller Panel Controller c C 3231 C 3241 C p300 p500 Interfaces (on board) Ethernet EtherCAT 1 1) 1 1 1) 1 CANopen 1 2) - 1 2) - Optional interfaces (communication cards) CANopen - - MC-CAN2 PROFIBUS master - - MC-PBM PROFIBUS slave - - MC-PBS PROFINET device MC-PND - - 1) In preparation 2) Only the CAN master functionality is supported. The Ethernet interface serves to connect the Engineering PC or to create line topologies (no integrated switch for Controller c300/p300). More information on the bus systems and configuration can be found in the communication manuals: Controller-based Automation EtherCAT Controller-based Automation CANopen Controller-based Automation PROFIBUS Controller-based Automation PROFINET 12 Lenze Backup & Restore Software Manual DMS 1.3 EN 04/2014 TD17

3 Basic concept 3.1 What are the functions offered by»backup & Restore«? 3 Basic concept This chapter contains information on the functional principle of»backup & Restore«. 3.1 What are the functions offered by»backup & Restore«?»Backup & Restore«allows for... the creation of backups: saving the data of a Lenze Controller the restoring of backups: carrying out restores, restoring data bases the installation of updates (only available for the control technology): updating the software version of the controller 3.2 Storage media used The controller manages the data bases within an internal flash memory (flash) and on the SD memory card.»backup & Restore«allows for saving/restoring the data of the internal flash memory and the SD card on a USB stick. Internal flash memory The controllers are equipped with an internal flash memory. This memory contains the operating system and the Lenze software. The controller boots from this memory. Since this memory is fixedly installed in the device, the data stored are to be saved by means of»backup & Restore«. SD card The SD card serves to save project data in the controller.»backup & Restore«saves the data of the SD card. Lenze Backup & Restore Software Manual DMS 1.3 EN 04/2014 TD17 13

3 Basic concept 3.2 Storage media used USB stick The USB stick is the central storage medium for executing a»backup & Restore«. The USB stick is the storage medium required for backups and updates. Note! For working with»backup & Restore«in an error-free manner, exclusively USB sticks approved by Lenze are to be used. Solely USB sticks approved by Lenze ensure a correct functionality. Currently approved versions and memory sizes are listed in the up-to-date Lenze sales documents. Tip! Current documentation and software updates with regard to Lenze products can be found in the download area at: 14 Lenze Backup & Restore Software Manual DMS 1.3 EN 04/2014 TD17

3 Basic concept 3.3 Differences between backup, restore, and update 3.3 Differences between backup, restore, and update The»Backup & Restore«tool enables the following actions: backup, restore, and update. The processes Backup (saving data), Restore (importing data of a backup), and Update (updating the software of the controller) are to be distinguished. Auto-Restore and Auto-Update are optimised processes for carrying out a series commissioning Backup What is a backup? A backup saves the entire data base of a Lenze Controller. The backup saves the following permanently stored data bases of the controller: Operating system Software Project data A backup is the basis to be able to carry out a restore in the event of an error. Lenze recommends the creation of regular backups to avoid data loss. Functional principle of a backup During the creation of a backup on the controller components (from the internal flash memory and the SD card) are copied to the USB stick. The USB stick is the storage medium used for backups. The backup always comprises the contents of the internal flash memory and the SD card. A backup is to be carried out manually. Further information can be found in the following section: Creating a backup & carrying out recovery ( 21) Lenze Backup & Restore Software Manual DMS 1.3 EN 04/2014 TD17 15

3 Basic concept 3.3 Differences between backup, restore, and update Restore and auto-restore Before a restore can be carried out, the USB stick must be prepared. What is a restore / auto-restore? Restoring a (previously created) backup is referred to as Restore. Restore and auto-restore are identical as regards the data contents - they merely differ with regard to the use (one-time restore or multiple restore).. Functional principle of restore and auto-restore A restore writes the (previously saved) backup data from the USB stick back to the internal flash memory and the SD card. In the case of a restore first a backup is created by the controller, in order to be able to retrieve the original state (in the event of an error). In the case of an auto-restore a restore without a backup is carried out. Differences between a restore/auto-restore Restore One-time restore of a backup which was previously configured. Select this process to restore the data bases of a backup on an individual controller. When carrying out a restore a backup is created beforehand. Auto-Restore Multiple restore (restoring a backup) on an optional number of controllers. If the USB stick is connected to another controller, the auto-restore is carried out automatically (series commissioning). When executing an auto-restore, a restore is carried out directly - no backup of the system is created before. 16 Lenze Backup & Restore Software Manual DMS 1.3 EN 04/2014 TD17

3 Basic concept 3.3 Differences between backup, restore, and update Update and auto-update Carry out an update to update the controller software. What is an update / auto-update? During an update the Lenze operating system is updated (only available for the control technology). Update and auto-update are identical as regards the data contents. Use an Auto-update to carry out an update on several controllers successively: series commissioning. Where can I receive an update and auto-update? Lenze provides software updates. Tip! Current documentation and software updates with regard to Lenze products can be found in the download area at: Functional principle of update and auto-update»backup & Restore«updates the software of the controller. An update transfers the data from the USB stick to the internal flash memory (flash). In the case of an Update first a safety backup is created, in order to be able to restore the original state in the event of an error. In the case of an Auto-Update no backup is carried out. An optional number of controllers can be updated successively. Differences between an update and an auto-update Update One-time update of the controller software. Select this process to update the software on an individual controller. When carrying out an update a backup is created beforehand for purposes of safety. Auto-update Multiple update of the controller software, an optional number of controllers can be updated successively. The auto-update starts automatically after the USB stick has been connected to another controller: series commissioning. When executing an auto-update, an update is carried out directly - no backup of the system is created before. Lenze Backup & Restore Software Manual DMS 1.3 EN 04/2014 TD17 17

3 Basic concept 3.4 Standard procedure 3.4 Standard procedure For executing»backup & Restore«, corresponding software applications are preinstalled on the controller. Since the controller can be obtained with different operating systems, different software applications are provided for the configuration. An auto-restore serves to automatically save identical backup data to multiple controllers. Auto-restore with»backup & Restore«- software application In order to be able to perform an auto-restore, a one-time backup of the desired controller the data bases of which you want to copy must be effected. Creating a backup & carrying out recovery ( 21) A USB stick configured for auto-restore can afterwards be used for an optional number of autorestore processes. How to prepare a USB stick for an auto-restore: The individual steps of an Auto-Restore are identical to those of a Restore. Carrying out restore and auto-restore ( 28) 1. Select the Auto-Restore command from the selection list to start the process. 2. Connect the USB stick to the desired controller. 3. Restart controller (with connected USB stick) by mains switching. The restore is automatically carried out during the boot-up process. 4. After the boot-up of the controller: Remove the USB stick from the controller. Tip!
