IEEE-ISTO IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO) is a Federation of Member Programs founded in 1999 by IEEE as a separate independent entity U.S.-based global not-for-profit organization serving industry alliances/consortia A place for industry fast track collaboration: standards, specifications, marketing and conformance Vision To be the premier trusted partner of the global technology community for the development, adoption and certification of industry standards. 18
IEEE-ISTO Selected Member Programs Several consortia have primarily Asia-based leadership or members 19
IEEE-ISTO Selected Companies Served by ISTO 20
IEEE-ISTO ISTO Member Program Benefits Turn-Key Solution Engagement offering includes: o Launch/Formation activities o Staffing for program leadership and/or administrative management o Alliance membership management o Financial / accounting management o Marketing communications & promotion o IP management o Conformity assessment Global Visibility Non-for-profit headquartered in US Flexibility to base alliances operations anywhere in the world Flexibility for members around the world to join and participate. Expedited Operation Alliances can start running in two weeks after contract signed Alliance members dedicate their energy to the technology, when ISTO staff takes care of everything else. Industry deliver the standards faster and ship products to market earlier. Top-Notch Service Experienced staff team have served 40+ global alliances since Safe-harbor and insurance coverage for ISTO programs, members, and officers First-class collaboration / IT tools supporting companies around the world to collaborate 21
IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP) What is Conformity Assessment? - Mechanism to verify and ensure conformance of a product or solution with the applicable IEEE standards - Provides assurance and confidence a product or service meets requirements How Conformity Assessment benefits industry - Establishes baseline for performance expectation - Eases pressure on vendors supply chain by reducing or eliminating different customer testing - Gives users confidence - Reduces both vendors and users costs to run individual interoperability tests - Early identification of non-conformances problems before deployment. Avoids dealing with unexpected behaviors during installation and over project life cycle - Helps identify gaps and mature / develop industry guides and Standards. 22
IEEE Standards Education Focal point for delivery of information on education about standards Recognizes the importance of standards in meeting technical, economic, environmental, and societal challenges Knowledge of standards can help facilitate the transition from classroom to professional practice by aligning educational concepts with real-world applications IEEE Standards Education Portal with free content: - Case studies and tutorials - Glossary of standards terms and acronyms - Information on continuing education at conferences 23
